Homerun!

I have owned several VW's, Audis, Lexus, and Mercedes and this car is absolutely the best car I have driven for the price. It is comfortable, stylish and fun to drive. It handles well. I only wish it was a hybrid considering the price of fuel. The other cars in it's class don't have a chance. Great car!

Love the 2006 Passat

I just took delivery of my '06 Passat 3 days ago, the first night I sat in it for 2 hours figuring all of the options out. The upgraded Dyna Audio system with the XM radio is sweet. The leather is really nice, the sun/moon roof is very quite even wide open. The transmission is cool with the 3 different options. Regular drive, sport and tiptronic. I have not even gotten to the smooth ride and quickness. The lease special is the deal. I traded a 2000 Jetta.

Head of the class

1. Shifts were imperceptive and smooth (needed to mute stereo to listen to engine). 6-speed tiptronic transmission was more responsive than 5-speed. Didn’t do much sport mode since I like to move between tip and auto mode side to side. Downshifts came pretty quickly. 2. Handling and steering adjectives: smooth, crisp, precise, responsive, flat, agile, tenacious, communicative, and confident. This car was fun to hustle. Best “cut and thrust” sedan I’ve ever driven. 3. Sensation of thrust not acceleration. Point the 2.0T down a ramp, hit the gas and you literally rocket forward until you take your foot off the gas. 85 mph passed by before I had merged. Felt similar to beginning of take off roll in a jetliner.

An Excellent Choice

This is a car for the ages. I believe price is irrelevant but it's nice to buy a car under $30,000 and get $60,000 worth of quality and performance. I'm coming from an Audi A4 and this is a finer car in comfort, appearance, safety and performance. People should test drive the Lexus, the Mercedes, the Jag and the BMW and THEN take a drive over to the VW dealer and take the Passat for a spin. You'll be shaking your head in disbelief as the Passat is the complete package. It's got it all.

I'd love it more if it were reliable.

The car looks great, it handles well, and it is very comfortable to ride in. Find another car that has so many luxury features for the price. The above said, the reliability of the car has been a nightmare. I've had the A/C Replaced, throttle body, pcv valves, gas cap, interior buttons, shocks, all replaced. I've had all of the TSB's that applied to the 2006 model just about - and there are a lot. I've had about 15-18 services since I bought the car in 2006. Which works out to almost every other month (it wasn't that frequent but sometimes it was 3 times in a month).
