Used 2006 Volkswagen Passat Consumer Reviews
Awesome
Just picked up my new Passat. I had to decide between getting a 2007 Camry, a 2004 Passat 1.8T GLS (with 22,000 miles on it) which was in impeccable condition, and this car. After weeks of research, and test driving, I absolutely could not justify paying $16,000 for the used Passat as it is a whole different car now, nor $20,000 for the Camry as it did not compare in the test drive at all. I picked up the dark grey Passat Value Edition 6-speed for $21,580 (this includes the $1,000 loyalty bonus). I figured that I can live without the chrome lining around the windows, while I can put alloy wheels myself further down the road as I wear out these sweet Michelins that come standard. No car in this price range can compare with the Passat experience!
Low-Key and Classy
The interior is unbelievably luxurious and has many thoughtful features. The acceleration and handling are top notch. It has taken me several weeks to adjust to driving such a fine car (versus my old '95 Jetta). The interior and exterior design is very conservative and classy. This is a great car.

Don't buy this car
From day one this car caused problems. I almost backed into a wall a month after owning the car - the brakes failed. I was told it was an air bubble in the brake line. Brake rotors changed, pads changed, and eventually problem went away. Gas cap light came on from the day the car was purchased. It was not until the car had over 50,000 km on it that they found that the gas tank had a leak. Bearings went on the car just over 50,000 km. Stereo CD player had to be changed out. For a high end vehicle the car had too many issues and spent a lot of time in the shop for repairs. This was my fourth VW and my last.
Cool Car
If you want something different than everyone else's "me too" Accord or Camry, the Passat is for you. It is roomy, stylish and fun to drive. The interior is very well put together and it feels like a much more expensive sedan. At least test drive it before you buy another 4 door sedan. I think you will like it.
2006 Passat 2.0t
This car has been bullet-proof after almost 60,00 miles, which, I have to admit, is quite a bit different from my previous Passat (1996 GLX). But I bought another one, didn't I? Replaced the wiper motor early on, under warranty. After that, nothing. My only complaint is that the ride has softened. My '96 was a slot car. But, it's still a beautiful design 4 years later and is the best blend of performance and fuel economy I know of in the segment.
