2010 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel TDI 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl Turbodiesel 6AM)

Review

First, the good:
the car is very fun to drive, the interior compares with much higher priced cars and the fuel economy is good.
The, bad:
two "campaigns" within 6 months, oil leak, sway bar (common problem I've read) and lower control arm bushings (common problem I've read) all replaced.
Now, it's leaking diesel after 18,500 miles and just about six months.
There is a problem with some of the high pressure fuel pumps failing.
Hopefully, this is not a precursor of the failure for me.
I loved the car at first, but service at the dealers is poor and VW customer service is less than helpful. Be forewarned about the high pressure fuel pump failure and poor service from dealers

Best Features

Fun to drive; good fuel economy; quality of interior; sporty suspension

Worst Features

Reliability; better service at dealers (it takes 1 - 2 weeks to get an appointment and they always seem to have to keep your car for a part order) Address the high pressure fuel pump failure that could result in upwards of $10,000 in repairs. I have read VW and dealers sometimes blame it on "bad fuel." Probably not the case, in my opinion. NHTSA is investigating.

Review

As this is my 4th VW, I thought I knew of all the features this car offered but several time with the past 2 weeks of ownership I've found new features that my Rabbit did not have.
Performance, comfort, features and free maint for 36K miles cannot be beat.

Best Features

Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, turbo power is there whenever needed, Sirius radio, heated seats, spacious trunk, grocery bag hooks in trunk. MPG is averaging 38 in mixed driving. Trip computer is very comprehensive

Worst Features

Can't think of much... Maybe put the TDi engine in a Tiguan body? don't excite me, but the 2011 redesign took away too many of the features I've loved about the MKV, 2010 models

2010 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel SportWagen TDI 4dr Wagon (2.0L 4cyl Turbodiesel 6M)

Review

Panoramic, Goal wheel upgrade, and Ipod hookup. dGoal wheels are great if clean your own car. Payed premium for diesel and fuel economy. Don't know if hype and economy is worth paying sticker. Had a massive water leak from sunroof drain hose that leaked into spare tire pan. A couple inches of water in the pan and your windows will never defog. Had to talk the dealer into a loaner for that issue. Pleather is underwhelming. Might be nice after sand volleyball league and mtn. biking next summer. Still miss the leather. Seats hurt your back and butt on long drives. Does not sound or smell like the old diesels. To find the diesel pump, look for the oil slick at the gas station.

Best Features

42 highway, 35-ish city. No diesel stereotypical drawbacks (smell, rattle, noise). Audio, satellite, Ipod hookup. Controls all intuitive. Handles good, great mileage. Stick is responsive and fun to drive. Steering wheel controls and driver info is top notch. Pano roof is cool, best in back seat.

Worst Features

Homelink, sunglass storage, better seats, leather, and a little more cockpit room. Auto-climate control. These are all features my 2000 Passat had, and I hoped they would have trickled down and been standard by now. Bluetooth hookup works well, but sound quality on both ends is not good.

Review

What car gets better than the posted EPA averages in both city and hwy mileage? Jetta TDI, of course. I had a diesel Rabbit back in the late 70's but this car is light years ahead of that. Solid, peppy, quiet and fast. We constantly play "beat the mgps" and post our success to the web. You can get in the high 60's for mpgs if you go easy on the gas pedal but when you need acceleration even up a hill you got it.

Best Features

Quiet solid ride, doors, seats, radio and mileage. Lots of info via the electronic console. Great steering wheel feel, fantastic tiptronic transmission.

Worst Features

Trunk key hole and a place to put your hand when closing the truck, something like a chromed lip on the outside - there's a grip on the inside but it's awkward. Cheaper NAV option, chromed wheel mags instead of brushed, door panel ding guard strips. Sun visor could have more pull out options.

Review

Bought a White/tan Jetta TDI 4-door, w/DSG transmission, sunroof, 17" wheels & iPod int. kit. Paid $24,853 incl'g destination (& free matts!). Traded-in a (German-made) 2-seater convertible, 6 cyl, that took prem fuel. First fill-up (combined hwy/city driving) yielded 38mpg and price of fuel was $2.69. Thought I'd miss my 6cyl vehicle, but haven't noticed; great acceleration with this vehicle, plenty of room, and a great touch- screen radio! I've also owned an Audi A-4 and this is as nice/nicer and a lot cheaper & quicker.

Best Features

MPG; DSG Transmission; touch screen radio w/Sirius sat radio (wouldn't have car w/o it!) is amazing; Bluetooth; acceleration, handling, fit & finish! Love the heated seats in this COLD weather too.

Worst Features

Self-dimming driver's side exterior & rear-view mirrors; fog lights (why is it $477 to have them installed after purchase?!); and the ability to turn the headlights completely off (DRL's stay on) when needed; splash guards.
