10 years and going, this car has NEVER left me on the road stranded. Never. Provided there is good maintenance, the car can run forever.

I recently bought a 1992 Jetta GL, automatic. It is so easy to drive and very relaxing. The only problem I have had with it is a single spark plug lead. We have had three offers for it so far, most of them double or triple the price we paid for it.

I posted a reveiw a few weeks ago about my '92 Jetta GL, I said it got factory stats with a blown head gasket, I had a compressions test done and it gets awsome compression, Which in turns means no blown head gasket. The things it was going looked like one, but after some time of trouble shooting, I relized that an O-Ring on the coolent Resivor had moved. Thus the pressure wasnt regulating, no was allowed to build up proberly. So if you think you have a blow head gasket check the o- ring on your resivor cap, and get a compression test just to be safe.

This is a great base for tuning on the VW platform....there are hundreds of products for customization, and tuning through the web, and in localized shops...if you are looking at one in decent condition....I tell you to buy it! Legend

this is a fairly raliable car. it is fun to drive although not very comfortable. the engine runs great, and it feels strong. i had repeated problems with the heating and the cooling system. i had to change many things. like the transmission, the suspensions and so on, but hey, this is a 12 yro car...

My car lives at the mechanic's every other week. The motor is great, but everything else falls apart. I've replaced every other thing, and am waiting to see what's going to break next....

Love the 87 VW Wolvesburg Edition

The gas milage is great. Quite roomy with three kids. No power. What happened to German quality. This edition was not built in Germany. The transmission is smaller than my 87'. Although they are both 1.8 liters. The 87' Wolvesburg edition drove better because of the better and bigger trany. I still love VW's. I have a 96. Although I would rather take another 87' Wolvesburg. Bring back the style, comfort, simplicity, better gas mileage and MADE IN GERMANY not US.

92 Jetta/NO Regrets

Purchased New in '92 car still Runs and Looks the same as when I bought it. No failings with Interior design but Closing & Locking mechanisms on rear doors are problematic and leave something to be desired. Have had no Engine or Tranny problems (automatic) and no real costs of maintenance other than routine tune ups & oil changes. Trunk is enormous for small sized car which is now 16 yrs old w/96k. This garage kept solid little car is great fun to drive & just can't give it up!
