First, I love this car, it's comfort, style and maneuverability. It fits my kids and I perfectly and we have really enjoyed it. There were a couple of repairs and updates that we had to have on the Atlas shortly after purchasing but that is to be expected with a newly launched car. I’m happy with our purchase and hope to keep the car for many more years. Drives so well!

A great concept poorly executed and unsafe

We test drove nine SUV's and did a lot of research before choosing the Atlas. It seemed to be the superior choice but we soon learned all that glitters isn't gold. It has proven to be unreliable and unsafe. It has shut-off the engine three times while it has been in motion, fortunately at slow speed. The most recent scary experience occurred when the auto stop/start shut of the engine then failed to restart when the brake was released. It had to be put in park and manually restarted. It spent a week in the dealership repair shop for what was supposed to be a four hour job. The entertainment system spontaneously turns itself on and the rear climate control frequently turns itself off. I recently learned from VW Customer Service that the vehicle has nine recalls but I have only received notification of four. It is sad that Volkswagen has bungled this vehicle. After reading some of the other reviews, we have been relatively fortunate. I strongly advise choosing a different vehicle and to avoid purchasing an Atlas or any Volkswagen. Update, My opinion of the Atlas has worsened since my earlier review. It has been recalled eleven times. The auto start/stop continues to malfunction. The infotainment system still acts as if it has a mind of its own as does the climate control system. The dealer service department cannot find the cause for the erratic performance. The transmission shifting is anything but smooth and the engine, once the bright spot of the vehicle, stumbles and accelerates poorly. After nearly two years of living with this poorly built vehicle, I have decided to sell it and go back to Toyota.

The Atlas a suv they shouldn't have made.

I came in and looked at the Atlas after seeing a commercial for 0 down etc. I didn't know at that time anything about Volkswagen having a new suv. When I walked into the showroom and saw the vehicle, at first I was very impressed seeing that Volkswagen rarely makes appealing looking vehicles. After the lease puchase of the Atlas I realized I should not have obtained this vehicle after all. The interior, although spacious lacks cosmetic appeal. The vehicle, which the salesman told me to have it in Eco drive, which I would imagine saves fuel, constantly cuts off this is very agitating in stop and go driving. I believe some more thought and origination should have been put into this vehicle before the launch. The one I have I can't even add Satellite Radio. Sluggish ride and average looking. Don't purchase. A lot more suvs out that are worth the money.

Air conditioning issues

Have problems with my atlas air conditioning. It's been in the shop 3 times. The air conditioning does not work properly. On 1 you can barely feel air and it throws warm air instead of cold. Dealership can't fix it right and try to lie by saying there made like that. I had it with them.

Nice look and roomy, but horrible manufacturing.

I have the 2018 VW Atlas launch Edition V6, 7 seats. Recall after recall, problems that weren't recalled but ended being warranty fixes. Still have problems arising. Now I need a whole new engine on a 5 year old vehicle with 71,000 miles. Worst vehicle experience of my life. Sad because I love how roomy it is and how it looks!
