2021 Toyota Tundra
Had a 2006 Tundra that reached 230k trouble free miles. Knew the Tundra was getting fully redesigned in 2022 but opted for the tried and true outgoing model. The 5.7 is proven and has lots of umph when you get on it. It's a V8 and reminds you it is with subpar fuel economy. I average 12-13 in city driving and 17-18 going 68-72 on highway. But what this engine doesn't have is direct … injection, no worthless auto/stop start, no cylinder deactivation like GM and Ford engines, no turbos that will fail at 150k miles or burning excess oil. Many 5.7s are still going at 250-300k or more with no major failures just routine maintenance. This engine will get 10 mpg towing anything over 3k pounds, just like all the ecoboosts and new turbo engines. The aisin 6-speed feels strong like a heavy duty truck transmission. Will downshift freely without any motivation from you driving it but do it smartly. This model also has largest rear gears in half ton segment with 4.30 ratio. The leather in the seats feels high quality. Toyota uses Lexus interior components in their vehicles, and hold up great over the years. Simple fit and finish and cosmetics hold up much better with a Tundra. I see F150s with badges peeling off and Chevys with trim pieces falling off. Many brand snobs cite the Tundra as not being designed as much as big three, or the terrible gas mileage. Personally I could care less about these things and love having a vehicle that is absolutely bulletproof. The redesigned Tundra failed in some aspects where this model shines. No tow hooks, bumper integrated with bed which will cost thousands to fix if rear ended, smaller rear back seat.
