Used 2020 Toyota Tundra CrewMax Consumer Reviews
Trying something new
Had 3 F150s with very few issues along the way, but the prices of the new ones are simply out of sight. So, I decided to give a Toyota a try this time around, given the lower price for similar equipment. I love the simplicity of the Toyota...no useless bling, baubles and eye candy...just a solid, good looking truck inside and out, with all the modern conveniences and a great reliability track record. Yes, it feels a little dated and a bit less refined than some of its competitors, but it's a good, bulletproof, comfortable, capable, truck that does everything I need a truck to do. And, importantly, it was priced right. As someone else said, if you want bling and baubles, you won't find them here. I've had two trucks like that and found all the 'cool', whiz-bang, stuff to be interesting but largely unnecessary, overly complex, and certainly not worth the extra investment. They were solutions to problems I never had, and just added complexity, distraction, and often frustration. The Tundra has good, intuitive, easy to navigate features which add to my driving experience in meaningful ways. In addition, it's ridiculously off-road capable...far more than my other trucks. My only gripe is with the fuel mileage, but it's the price I'm willing to pay to drive a V8 with all the simplicity, torque and horsepower I prefer. Love the Tundra so far. It's different from what I'm used to, but not in bad ways. It's very off-road capable with all the bells and whistles I need to enjoy my commute and travels.
Durable/reliable
This is my 4th Tundra I traded my 2007 for this 2020 because it will be my last truck and we will be doing alot of towing. The 2007 had 120000 miles on it and I was convinced it would go another 100k but my wife was nervous... 120k. No oil use between changes, u-joints still solid, NO problems at all. Towed a trailer from Tacoma to Cabo and back, Calgary and back and several trips tp Death Valley with nary a whimper!, Keep all your bells and whistles I need a reliable tow vehicle —the Tundra!

Exceeding My Expectations
Approaching retirement, I set out on my mission to buy what I hope will be my last new truck. With a couple of fine son-in-laws and grandsons in the picture, my extended cab truck wasn't meeting our needs any more. I spent the first 6 months of the year learning about all of the full sized 2020 pickup trucks. Allot of reading, visits to the dealerships, test drives and talking to owners to see what they liked and disliked about their trucks. By July 4 my head was hurting from all of the intake, and I was done thinking about it. I bought my 2020 Tundra SR5 Crew Cab that week, and it's been all good. The most important things to me: 1. Reliability 2. Reliability 3. Reliability 4. Room for six 6' foot passengers 5. Power to pull a trailer full of dirt bikes and gear through the mountains Over the years I have owned a couple of Chevrolet trucks, a Ford and then a Toyota Tacoma. I sold my 2003 Tacoma only because I needed more cab room. The Tacoma was the best performing and most reliable vehicle I have owned. It was running (and looking) near new at 17 years and 120,000 miles. That's why I chose to stay with Toyota, for the simplicity and reliability. I keep a vehicle for 10 years and 150,000 miles or more. I just don't see engines with computerized cylinder deactivation, or turbo chargers, being as reliable as the simple fuel injected overhead cam engine that powers the Tundra. Having driven the truck for 6 months, I am amazed at the value this base model truck offers. Much more than I was expecting. The mechanical performance is impressive. There's plenty of power to get moving quickly when pulling onto a highway. The torque is fantastic, pulling a trailer up a mountain is easy with the Tundra. The seats are excellent, I have driven up to 5 hours on my longest trip, and we were all still comfortable. When someone jumps into the backseat, they always comment that they can't believe the amount of room they have. 4 Wheel drive system works really well. With all of the updated traction control features, it seems to be even more surefooted on snow and ice than my "go anywhere" Tacoma. The ride comfort is what has surprised me the most. The smooth ride, the quiet cabin and the straight tracking of the steering all exceed what I expected. On a straight highway, you can let your hands off the steering, and it will track straight for a long ways. I'm used to my past trucks needing allot of mini-correction of the steering going down the road, but not the new Tundra. The Technology features in my truck have all worked well, I have had no issues with any of the safety features, bluetooth system, or audio system. My truck does not have an onboard navigation system, but does pair with Android Auto via my phone, which works real well. Fuel mileage is what it is. I knew it when I bought it, and am OK with less MPG for the simplicity and reliability that I am looking for. My truck has been averaging 15 mpg with my combination of around town and highway driving. On a highway trip with no trailer being towed, I had over 19 mpg. A tank of gas with all around town and no highway trips averages around 14.5 mpg. Bottom line - I am really happy with my Tundra. It is a great truck, and I would recommend it without reservation,.

Love our 2020 Platinum series!
We decided to "downgrade" from our Infiniti SUV QX80 .. but we are very pleased with all the upgrades to the 2020 Tundra which had most of the options our $100k SUV has! It even had keyless entry and push button start!!! Drives smooth, feels more luxury than just a TRUCK.. we are beyond happy with it! We have the Mesquite (brown) color with black interior... its stunning! 38 gallon gas tank is a bit spendy to fill, but hey we get almost 600 miles out of a full tank.

Truck of my Dreams
Just pick up a Tundra TRD Pro from Milton Ruben toyota in Augusta Ga. I have been a truck guy all my life. Bouncing back and forth between Ford and Dodge. Toyota showed me that you didn't need to spend a fortune to get good truck. The fit and finesh is top notch. What you get from others for 60 to 90 thousand, Toyota gives you for 40 to 50 thousand.
8 month/8000 mile review
I traded my beloved but boring 18 Honda Pilot EX-L for a 20 Tundra Crew Max Platinum a few weeks before Covid shut everything around here down. I knew after a 10 minute test drive that this was the truck that I wanted. It came with TRD exhaust, shifter, and air filter. I installed Tyger running boards and Tonneau cover along with a TRD rear sway bar. I also recently downsized to a lightweight 17" wheel with Cooper Discoverer ATS 4s tires. The ride is much softer now without giving up much in handling. This truck fits my needs well, the seats are very comfortable and I have plenty of room for taking family on trips. Gas mileage that everyone complains about is actually decent. I see over 20mpg on any highway trip under 70mph. Around town, 15-18mpg is normal. The engine and transmission play well together and is always willing to downshift. The manual control of the transmission is greatly appreciated with all the mountain driving I do. Nothing to really complain about, the interior might be considered a little cheap for a 55k truck but in the end, I wanted a strong and reliable truck and this fits the bill. Already had some winter weather here and with the snowflake rated tires, no issues getting around unplowed roads. Overall, very pleased with my truck and if you are looking for a dead reliable truck and are okay without an IPAD screen, this truck is a solid choice.
Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my Tundra
This is my 2nd Tundra - my first was a 2001 and is still in great shape, but I sold it to my nephew. There is little not to like about this vehicle, but there are some things: lackluster fuel economy (but I love that reliable and powerful engine), no front parking sensors on the center of the bumper (sensors installed only alert if object is on left or right of side); large pinch weld seam that should be painted black (you will notice on any lighter colored vehicle such as silver or white); and a giant well of a center console without compartments for organization (that was remedied with a very low cost organizer designed specifically for the Tundra off of Amazon). What I LOVE: sooo comfortable seats, seamless and powerful transmission and engine, Toyota safety sense safety features, side mirror close feature, heated and vented seats, SPACIOUS back (five adults can easily and comfortably fit), overall look and feel, unmatched Toyota reliability (this engine will easily last 20 years), great ground clearance, smooth ride, great visibility...I could go on and on!

Where did all the storage go?
Where did all the storage go? This is not my first tundra! On my 2008 tundra I had all sorts of little storage spaces, on the door, behind the backseat, behind the drivers seats, for some reason that has all been illuminated. That is the only disappointment I have at this time!

Toyota Tundra
Neither Toyota or Toyota owners really care about edmunds stupid “Yawn” comment... Toyota and their customers are all about quality, not just stupid bells and whistles. Any intelligent person would buy a Tundra over any other brand pickup of similar capacity. When you have a GREAT product like the Tundra, there isn’t much need for updates or changes.....

Rock Solid Tundra!
This truck is perfect for the hauling, boat and snowmobile trailer towing I do. I had 2010 and hated to part with it since it never let me down, but the 2020 has some great features. I love the rear power window with defrost, apple car play, LED lights (beautiful), minimalist interior without all the clutter of the domestics, and of course the reliability of this continuously improved Tundra. I love the 5.7L V8 smoothness and power delivery. Very comfortable for long towing trips. My daily driver is a hybrid to keep the gas consumption under control, but this truck is a pleasure to drive and especially on trips with the family. I added a leer 700 topper, OEM rear tailgate unlock and bed LED lighting. I added a second set of TRD Tundra 2012 wheels with OEM sensor and can switch to them with a few pushes of the TPMS button and it recognizes the second set of wheels/tires. Love the 8" touchscreen not too big or too small. Update: 2 years now no issues. Only disappointment is the remote start. Toyota charges $80/year for that function to work? I only found it out when after a year remote start on the key fob stopped working. Buyer beware. Toyota's technology for GPS and other items is behind the curve and costly for updates. It's sad Toyota decided to pull another fast one on it's customers and charge for remote start. Not happy with that. As other Truck reliability improves I may start looking elsewhere. My 2014 Avalon Toyota software became quickly obsolete and unsupported. Pandora no longer works and have to pipe through Bluetooth like 15 year old vehicles. And even then just pumping Pandora through Bluetooth it drops the connection on and off at times for no reason. I can't believe a company the size of Toyota can't figure out how to implement reliable Bluetooth car play and Android technology and plan to support it at some basic level.

2020 Tundra my wife won't drive
I leased my 2020 Tundra and paid the lease off early. I have found the drivers seat gets uncomfortable on long trips. However it is a good idea to take a break once in a while so this is not a major complaint. This truck rides as well as my 2003 Silverado did with which I was well pleased. The tundra has plenty of power and climbs the mountains of NE Pennsylvania effortlessly even when towing a trailer loaded with my quad. I wish there was a storage compartment under the rear seat but a tool box - from my 2012 Ranger which I sold at 125K miles on the Odometer- and a Tonneau cover have solved this issue. I have gotten over 17 mpg on a trip to Virginia with studded snow tires at an average speed of approximately 68 mph. This is not a truck one what's to buy if they are concerned about conserving gas. I bought this truck because I believe Toyota builds reliable products . I have found the info .features to be easy to access and use. What I like most about this truck is that my wife find it too hard to get in-not designed for short people. She also has a hard time judging right turns because the side mirror blocks her vision. I love my wife of 41 years but since this Tundra is my retirement present I'm glad she won't drive it.

Long-Term Review (4 years)
I bought a 2020 Tundra Limited 4WD CrewMax in December of 2019 after months of exhaustive research. I had always wanted a truck since I was a young boy and this now 40 year old's day had finally arrived! I compared the comparable Ford, GM and Dodge/Ram products and quickly narrowed it down to the Toyota and Dodge. Ram had a more supple ride and fancier interior, however for a long-term purchase, what I valued was reliability. I chose the Toyota and the Tundra has not disappointed. I now have 81,000 miles on it and have only had to change oil, tires, one defective battery (replaced under warranty) and I'm just about to do the first brake job. One of the front parking sensors broke and I haven't replaced it, just turned the sensors off. The Tundra is my daily driver (50 miles round trip) and I also tow a horse trailer and a 36 foot camper from time to time. The Tundra pulls both trailers with ease. I've made several road trips up and down I-35/I-45 in Texas, this truck is a great long haul cruiser. I've used the 4WD in rain, snow and mud and never once did I fear getting stuck. Gas mileage is typical for the 5.7 liter V8. I experience 14-15 in the city 17-18 on the highway. Happy to trade lower gas mileage for this bulletproof powertrain. Power comes on predictably in a linear fashion. Plenty of power for daily driving and torque for towing. It is not the smoothest riding truck on the road, but it isn't the worst either. I also added A/T tires which create some additional noise and bumpy ride - but the tradeoff for value and reliability are more than worth it. All in all I am very pleased with being a Tundra owner. It's a reliable work-horse with enough creature comforts to make it a pleasant daily driver, definitely not for the rhinestone cowboy. I plan to keep this truck for as long as it runs, thinking that might be a pretty good while given the experience of the first 4 years and 80k miles.

Fast and the 1794 isvery well equipped!
I purchased a 1794 on Jan 3rd. I have 2900 miles on it and it is very good in every respect. This is my fifth Tundra ans by fr the best one.The ride is a little stiffer than my Limited's that I have in the past. But the interior has a more comfortable seating. The leg rest on the front of the drivers seat makes it sooo comfortable on a long trip. Fuel economy is the same as the past Tundra's. But the truck has even more zip than my previous trucks. And best of all it won't rust out like some trucks with bow ties!
Trd Pro is a beast!!!
Absolutely love this truck!!! Yes gas is terrible but who gets a truck for fuel economy?!?!? Taken her out to trails a few times and goes through them with ease. Cab space is superior with simplistic audio that makes apple car play a joy to use. The Rumble of the Trd exhaust reminds you how beefy the 5.7L v8 is which is music to my ears. If I had to change one thing on my Pro it would be the small tires it comes with.

My first truck
This is my first truck. I sold my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder because I was sick of going to the mechanic. I leased an SR5 and overall am happy with with. It's powerful, large, good cargo, and seems well built. The biggest cons are gas mileage and the audio can get a bit complicated to figure out. The other thing about this truck is that I have the largest gas tank, around 38 gallons, but the truck tells you that you are going to be out of gas way before you actually use the entire tank. It gives the low gas warning with about 5-6 gallons left which makes no sense to me. Overall, I'm happy with the truck. I have put about 5000 miles on it thus far. It gets 16-18 for me on highway and around 14 in the city.

Very reliable pickup
Not as modern technology size as other pickups and not as high a MPG but extremely reliable. Some safety features that should be standard are not. In light of the height of the truck should ycome with side steps. However the overall vehicle is a pleasure to own and I frequently am asked by other truck owners about features and complimented on its appearance and storage space. Owners manual could be better and would be nice to have on DVD. Seating sized for big people. Dash lighting is poor for old guys like me for day driving. Numbers need brighter range.

Best Truck You Can Buy - TRD Off Road
I started to order a 2022 Tundra, but the turbo and quality issues put an end to that purchase. I went with a 2020 Crewmax 4wd with TRD off road package and not the TRD PRO. The TRD provides a better suspension to hand the bad road conditions I get into. I could have purchased any other model of truck on the market and price was NOT a deciding factor. I am in parts of Colorado and New Mexico during the winter and being stuck in the middle of nowhere with no cell coverage is very dangerous. Bottom line is I needed the most reliable truck I could find. Sadly this is the last V8 Toyota will be putting in their trucks and no I am not a big engine guy, but I doubt turbos will be trouble free for 300,000 plus miles and my plan is to run it for 300,000. Pros: Lots of power Easy to use controls Very smooth ride even on really bad roads Road noise is close to my GX460 so quite good. Reliability Huge cabin Fit and finish Apple Car Play Highway driving with a bed cover installed has been 19 to 20. Put your foot in it an drive hard you will be at 17. Meets my towing needs which is the occasionally12x6 U-Haul trailer with a full load in the mountains. The driving characteristics are quite good. I drove a Ram 1500 that did not have an off road package and it seemed stiffer. I liked the stiffer ride, but not a deal breaker. TRD package provided good value with a better suspension, better tire size and skid plates. Cons Not a super luxury truck. Styling is long in the tooth, but still looks good. A bigger LED screen would be nice, but 8 inches is not bad. Used the prices on these trucks is not cheap. The last of the V8s seem to be commanding premium.

Let My Tundra Go
Got a new 2020 Tundra Crew Cab on phenomenal 36 lease …300 month zero down..was basically a trouble free beast..in NC I was getting 15-17 mpg ..bought the lease out and traded her in on Ridgeline..got 5 thousand dollars back in trade value..boss was having difficulty getting in and out and refused to drive it..I’ll certainly never have a vehicle for 3 years that leased out for 44k and got 40.5 3 years later..I certainly miss the 38 gallon tank and the ability to get anywheres in virtually any weather that the tundra provided..effortless highway cruiser..just remember you’re wheeling a larger live axle truck..

Almost Perfect
The first thing I notice is the SPACE. The thing is very roomy inside. The next is the ride. It rides like a truck. You buy a Ford or Chevy truck and they ride like a car. The next thing that stands out with me is the motor. You hear it and feel it. You know you have V8 power with you. The biggest negative is the gas mileage...I'm averaging 15mpg and I am not an aggressive driver. I baby my truck. The software seems a little slow. The WiFi seems like it could use some tweaking. Overall, I do not regret this purchase. It is a solid truck.

I like everything except the mileage and the inability to tow a 3 horse slant trailer The back just squats way down when hitched to my trailer. When I bought this I let the salesman know what I wanted to do ie: pull my horse trailer Extra expense to get air bag Not happy

A Lot of Compromise For the Cost
First off, I'd like to say that i am by no means a brand loyalist. Whatever brand offers the best value of features and reliability for the lowest cost usually gets my dollar. I decided to lease a 2020 tundra SR5 CrewMax with the TRD package as opposed to buying it so i could decide whether or not i liked it before dropping almost $40k on a new truck. Test drive went okay, good amount of power, and the truck rides smooth. STILL cannot believe how much room the back seat offers (a little too much if you ask me).So i pulled the trigger on a 27 month 27k mile lease due to the almost $4,000 in rebates they had going on at the time. I had done some research on the Tundra before jumping into one, and i can now say confidentially that the bad reviews I've read are true. First ill start on the interior. It is seriously lacking. For a truck that costs damn near $40,000 US, they should have spent a little more money on the interior components. Door cards are thin, seats are boxy and uncomfortable over extended periods of time, and you're stuck with the same shifter as the camry's, corolla's, and 4runners that Toyota has been using for over 2 decades. but that's pretty on par with the rest of the Tundra interior, Horridly outdated, and cheap. Now the nice big touch screen radio is nice, minus the fact that all of the navigation and apple car play apps never work correctly and you're constantly required to install updates. I was happy to find out that toyota now offers every vehicle the option of remote start, but what i later realized is that this feature is controlled through an app. An app that they charge you $10 a month for after the first year of use. The app does not work even 70% of the time to remote start my truck, the mileage and distance to empty features are always off, and the app crashes constantly. Toyota should go back to the drawing board if they want their customers to dish out $120 a year for remote start. Now the truck does utilize the ancient 6 speed transmission. Trans shifts great without any hiccups whatsoever, this does come at a cost. an average of 14.2 mpg. I drive 54 miles a day to work and back at an average highway speed of 76 mph, and i have yet to see close to 15 mpg. abysmal. Especially when Chevy, Ford, And Ram are starting to see well over 20 mpg in their 1/2 ton pick up trucks. Toyota needs to step up to the plate and start spending some of their money on improving outdated technology. If Toyota offered better fuel economy, a 6.5' bed option with a few inches taken out of the crewmax, and spent some money on higher end interior finishes, i might consider purchasing a tundra for the long haul. Until then? my money will be better spent exploring the 6 speed 5.3l tried and true silverado, or the bullet proof 5.0l ford f150.

Horrible fuel mileage!!!
I just don’t understand why Toyota won’t make a Tundra that will get good fuel economy. Every other pickup truck on the road gets substantially better fuel economy. It’s definitely a tried and true engine but with all the technology we have something could be done.

Bad straight drive on hwy .Independent suspension?
What's up with new truck driving not straight like F150, Chevy or Ram. Even Honda ridgeline drives straighter without constant fine tuning. The 2nd replacement potential truck..same issues..won't drive straight without constant, micro adjustment. Drive F150 and see the difference in Tundra..other rv tow people or without tow long hwy drive people know what I m talking about. City dwellers may not understand as its not noticeable. But long drive..its very apparent.

Cheap Interior
The plastic interior on my Tundra is terrible and very had to keep clean. I have had my truck less than one year and the plastic is already fading. My other issue is the six speed transmission. I need to use cruise control a lot due to a physical condition. Going down a small incline, it jerks you going into a lower gear and going uphill is the same problem only jerking you into a higher gear. For $50,000.00 I should have stayed with a new Ram 1500.
