My previous Toyota truck was a 1992 4WD V6 with a 5-speed. I racked up over 285,000 miles on it with no problems. Take care of your Toyota, it will take care of you. Same has held true for my 2006 Tundra. I found an extremely rare 2006 SR5 Access Cab with the 4.0L and a 6-speed manual transmission and had to have it. Bought it in 2011 with 181,000 miles. Miles mean nothing on Toyotas if they have been maintained. Replaced the shocks with Bilstein HD's (Yellow), and it made it ride like a new truck! With 220,000 miles on it, I am ready to declare my Tundra the worthy successor to the Beast! Had one single failure, a bad coil, which was easy to replace. 400,000 here I come!

I bought this truck new in 2006. It has an oil leak that was suppose to be fixed under warranty. I never received a notice and the dealer conveniently waited until after the warranty to run out to inform me? I never got it fixed and the leak has not gotten any worse. I have never done anything but change the oil, two front break jobs, replaced the Rack and Pinion boots, they were cracked, changed the plugs twice, had the automatic transmission fluid changed at 100K. . Other than that it has been a stealer pickup. Easy to work on so far and always reliable. I would not trade it for a new one. I pull a 3400 lb. pop up camper with it. Have pulled the pop up with it about 20K with no problems what so ever. Update 3/13/2021. Just put in new KYB shocks on the front struts, replaced the stabilizer bar mounts. Replaced the rear shocks. Replaced the u-joints. Amazing ride, just like new. Only problem is I took it in for an airbag recall and they screwed up my vent system. The dealer will not fix their screw up???? So I will have to tear into it. Update 3/15/2023. No problems what so ever. 180,000 miles. I bought a 20 ton press at Harbor freight. I pressed in new front wheel bearings, this was just preventative maintence.

At 20000 miles the tailgate would not let up and down. Inspected tailgate internal parts. The parts were real flimsy. Looked like they came from a Cracker Jack box. For a farmer, a truck without a tailgate is like a bird dog without a nose. The truck has no transmission dipstick. Only a dipstick engineer could design a transmission without a dipstick. I was told by Toyota that the transmission was sealed and could not leak, therefore no dipstick needed. At 30000 miles, I found a leak at drivetrain coupler where transmission is connected to engine. So much for building a transmission that cannot leak. Toyota dealer fixed it under warranty. As soon as warranty ran out, leak started again. Toyota refused to fix it, even though problem was originally never corrected under warranty. It was discovered the original leak came from the slip yoke, and the Toyota dealer changed the driveshaft seal, which was the wrong part. The leak was more of an ooze than a leak, so I let it go. Headlights were always weak. Paint on top of truck peeling at 70,000 miles, although vehicle was always garaged. Dash vibrates at glove compartment. The good news is that the noise drives my wife crazy, so she refuses to drive the vehicle. The only way I can sometimes stop the noise is by inserting a rag between dash and truck frame. Radio sound is awful. Air conditioner is barely adequate. At 45000 miles, when it rained, water began leaking down passenger side of dash into floorboard. Tried everything, finally fixed it by not driving in the rain. At 120,000 miles, water still leaking, transmission still leaking, paint still peeling, glove compartment still rattling, tailgate still unworkable. Air conditioner fan blower makes a horrible noise. The noise only happens when I turn it on, so, in summer, I now ride with my windows down. Incredibly, I have not had any major expenses on this truck. I just nurse it along. No need in paying for repairs. Something is always breaking. Also, at 15000 miles I noticed oil pressure guage took 6 seconds to register after starting engine. Toyota dealer said this was normal for V6. I would't trust them in a meat house with a muzzle on their face. The gas mileage is good, around 22 mpg on highway, and the ride is comfortable. Handling is good. Never had to align the front end in 15 years of driving. I have owned two other Toyotas that were great vehicles. My wife and daughter drives Hondas. They normally get up to 400,000 miles with only minor fixes. I raised this truck to 4 stars, because, with all the minor problems, the truck is still running great with 134,000 miles and no real major expenses, just annoying minor problems. Looks as though the powertrain is more rugged than the rest of the truck.

Best vehicle I've ever owned

I bought this used in the spring of 2009 with 22,000 miles on it. I'd just retired but needed a truck to haul the boat and do an occasional remodeling job. Since I have also have a car I don't put a lot of miles on it, it's 15 years old now and has 125k miles. This is hands down the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. The only repair it's needed is a starter which cost $125 and I installed it. After it was 10 years old the TPMS sensor batteries finally kaput, but that's to be expected. Even the original battery (said Toyota but was an Interstate) lasted 9 years. I've changed the oil (Mobil 1) every 5k miles, replaced the serpentine belt at 80'k miles along with the radiator hoses and changed all fluids at the recommended intervals except for the transmission fluid which has not been touched, which I'm going to let the dealer handle soon. The only time it's been in the shop or at the dealer was for the airbag recall and to get tires. There has not been a problem with any switch, display, system, or mechanism period. I did replace the head unit/radio with a more modern unit when I bought it for the Bluetooth to link my phone/music, but the original unit was still fine. There is no rust and the original paint looks great, but it is parked in a garage. It's also accident free. Nowadays I only log about 3 or 4 thousand miles a year on it, but the taxes ($28/year) and insurance are cheap. Considering the ridiculous price of new trucks, I'll keep this until either it, or I, dies. If every vehicle was this reliable, there would be a lot less repair shops!
