2004 matrix!best money ever spent!
owned a 2004 Toyota matrix hatch used, had roughly 60k on it,zero problems!Honestly car saved our(wife, and myself)lives. We were struck during construction while stopped by a semi traveling 73MPH.killed both dogs and father in law, broke 3 ribs of my wife(driver) and gave myself a severe brain injury. But 6+ years later-i'm divorced, and healing wonderfully!Purchased a hylander hybrid last december.absolutely wonderful vehicle! I swear by toyota!never had any issues with the matrix-good car for good price! What vehicle would've made out when stopped when struck by a loaded tractor trailer?none that I know of

Toyota does not stand by its owners
I have owned the car and it was a great fun car could ignore the minor problems such as a defective battery in the first week and minor fit and finish problems. After 3 years and 37k my clutch went and looking on the internet I found out that 03 and 04 Matrix have hundreds of reported problems with early failure of transmissions.BTW,many of those posts are on the Edmunds forums Toyota has refused to acknowledge there is a problem Now at 79K I find the clutch and transmission is going All my previous standards have gone over 100k

Ahh it's not so bad...depending on view
Peppy engine but very noisy, I have a 6 speed manual trans and it's very easy to shift. Radio rocks. Common complaint I read is road noise, that is true. Seats are comfortable. Views are good (rear window is small so that is limited) Only thing that needed to be fixed was serpentine belt had to be replaced & belt tensioner had to be replaced. Other than that the car is extremely reliable.
Seat issues
The car is ok, except the drivers seat is really uncomfortable for me. Too much side bolster and not enough lumbar. I realize one seat does not fit all, but there is no option from Toyota to do anything about the problem, like getting an optional seat.
LEGROOM!!
I love everything about this car. I have never been so happy with a car. Even traded my Tundra. I am 6 foot tall and the space and headroom is great. Getting in and out of the car for me is easy. I have one big problem though. My left leg cannot straighten out because it hits the wheelwell! It is starting to affect me because I have to sit crooked, and my left foot and leg are getting sore because it butts-up against the plastic! There is no comfortable spot to rest it my leg. I am physically fit and the last thing I wanted to do was complain about the coolest car I ever owned and a Toyota. Does anyone else know what I am talking about?
