I bought my LC a month ago with 155k miles on it. I've since put 5k on it, both highway and city. Still runs flawlessly. I've owned BMW Ms and many other sports cars, but none make me smile like the LC. Not sure what people gripe about in regards to gas MPG. Fuel economy isn't the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of a LC.

Best SUV year after year

If you require reliability 2nd to none and a SUV that is overbuilt then this is for you. The cup holders on this year model are pretty useless and they do go through brake pads about every 15,000 miles. Good aftermarket support so you can upgrade and get more miles out of your brakes. Lots of torque to get you where you want to go and handling on and off road with the All Wheel Drive is outstanding.

The best SUV on the planet

I bought this truck with 150K miles on it already and have put 25K more on it in a short period of time. It has no squeaks or rattles and drives like a new vehicle. Despite the power leather seats and moon roof (among other creature comforts) it is quite capable off the highway as well. You can't beat Toyota for quality, and Land Cruiser is the best Toyota makes.

1996 Land Cruiser Will Last

I bought this car with almost 90,000 miles, I was a little nervous buying a used car with so many miles and for $15k. I have now owned this car for 5 years and now have 140,000miles, there is a reason why these truck are legendary, the are build strong and made to last. This car is more comfortable than many newer cars and extremely reliable and excellent in the snow. Other than some minor repairs and bad gas mileage the car will last forever. I use this truck for everything from family trips to towing the boat to daily commuting, like I said it is built to last.

no SUV as dependable!!

I love my truck. My previous SUV's were 1993 Range Rover County LWB, 1996 Range Rover 4.6 HSE, Nissan pathfinder. The LC is by far the best! Excellent traction in the snow. Deep Colorado Snow! Excellent on the highways, Drove it back and forth to michigan last summer and it was ideal! Roomy enough for a family of 4. Comfortable enough for the grandma, and luxurious enough for the wife. This is one of the most well made vehicles in my opinion and I plan on never letting it go!

For years I had wanted a LC, I finally found a good used one. Had 190,000 miles but still looked great. Now have 210,000 and I have had no problems at all and it will go anywhere with absolute confidence. Love the styling, size, and quality. Fuel consumption is not too great but, hey; I knew that going in and it is still worth it, no worse than it's competitors. Looked at Tahoes, Land Rovers, Expeditions, and Armadas; the Landcruiser is light years ahead of them all. I plan to keep this vehicle forever.

The Land Cruiser is the ultimate in that it is legendarily reliable at all times. It is as comfortable in the city (power, economy, ride, size, braking, etc.) as any other SUV but the ultimate off-road. It is very steady and built like a tank.

Canada to Costa Rica

Bought Abbotsford, BC Canada. $11000, $7000 on drives. 248,000 miles. Drove to Costa rica 6000 miles. Here in CR mountains, had brakes replaced 3 times this year. Gas mileage 8 MPG, straight 6. Gas here is $3.43 / USG. Here they have diesel engines a much better choice. In N.America gas is king (insane). We have 272,600 currently. We have a steep hill and stream to climb to get out of our property. We have towed many 4 wheel drive vehicles up this hill. Hyundai is pitiful. When driving in Mexico City along on of the highways a huge pothole appeared in our lane over a foot deep and 5' wide. Panic:- alignment, no problem. this is our second SUV other 4Runner, both fantastic vehicles.

Just bought our '95 LC. It is so solid with no squeeks or rattle. It is so brawny and cool looking. Vehicle weighs over 6400 lbs. ABS brakes and airbags will protect my family. The third row jump seats are great. You can take them out or fold them up. Great interior with all the needed accessories with none of the stupid ones that you don't need. Horrible gas mileage but it is full time 4wd, so what do you expect. Everyone says that it needs more horsepower but I would hate to see the gas milage with a V8.

I am the second owner. I have owned it for 9 years and put 70k on it. To this day I have only changed fluids, tail lamp bulbs and wiper blades so far. This week I am finally buy new tires. In the snow, off road or just out to dinner, it performs perfectly every time. Without a doubt, this is the best car/truck I have ever owned. It is truly bullet proof. I took it to a mechanic last year thinking it was time for a tune-up at 120,000 miles. The mechanic looked at the spark plugs and did a general inspection. He told me that this was the best vehicle ever made and to come back when it reaches 250,000 miles. Perfectly clean garage concrete where it has been parked for 8+ years.

Don't wanna give it up

I love this vehicle. I moved into Sales and put real LA freeway miles on this car saying over and over that I'd trade for something more 'appropriate', but the exterior design is classic, the build excellent and it has handled me out of many a dangerous freeway jam and weather-ugly situation. I am very tall so it is one of the few cars I fit in. I love it. But the poor gas mileage and brakes - it uses up brakepads folks - argh. ... But I don't wanna give it up and a replacement is what 45K!

I purchased this vehicle used in 1998 with 38000 miles. I bought my first Land Cruiser, an FJ40, in 1976 and my first wagon in 1978. You cannot beat the durability and reliability of this vehicle. It handles very well, rides smooth and quiet on road, and will go just about anywhere offroad when needed. It will never leave you stranded.

This is the 3rd Landcruiser that I have owned. Previous models were '79 FJ40 and '88 FJ62. I have owned this Landcruiser since 8/99 when it had 72k miles. Now it has over 215k. I have replaced rotors one time (my labor), had rear engine seal replaced (mechanic), valve cover gasket replaced (my labor), shocks (my labor). Gets ~14mpg. Vehicle is stock, except for Goodyear 305/70/16 tires which have lasted over 80K miles. Still terrific!

Just bought this 1995 with 98150 on the clock. Unbelieveable how tight and rattle free this is. I am an ex 1999 Chevy Tahoe owner and while the Tahoe has more interior room and power, it lacks the manners, handling, and off road capability that the older Toyota has. I understand that this is the last year of the really heavy duty suspension. So far I would buy this vehicle again and again.

Add gas and go. The Toyota Landcruiser has been easy to maintain and easy on the wallet over the last 10 years. Basic wear and tear items like brakes, batteries , tires and oil changes were done at reasonable intervals. Parts and service are relatively inexpensive compared with the 95 BMW 740il we spent a small fortune on every year. It is a good solid car. Fun to drive for being a heavy truck and only having a 6 cylinder engine. Highly recommended even for a ten year old car.

It pretty much is the best truck if you really need a SUV. It excels in all areas related to four wheel drive and off-roading. You will be hard pressed to find another vehicle with more comfort or abilities not to mention number one in reliability. Much better than the new ones and would by another but currently own 2.

Bought a 96' off ebay....w/78000 miles 4 yrs ago. Overall very solid. You WILL eat up brake disc pads...I changed my tires/and pads did them myself very cheap $20 per axle for life time warranty from Autozone. At 80000 the catalytic converter went out dealer replaced for free. It tends to burn oil a qt about every 2000 miles. Overall very solid and reliable terrible mileage...12 city 16 hwy... parts are expensive buy them online its cheaper. Only critique is I'm only 5'10 and the seat doesnt go back far enough for my liking... overall I would buy one again and again. I have 134000 miles on it and it is great. If you want to pull anything with it I'd suggest getting heavy duty shocks.

I bought this 1996 LC with 40000 miles in 2000. Used it as my primary luxury car until the first of 4 kids turned 16 in 2002 . At that time it had 110000 mi . My son and I added a brush guard and off he went. We knew the car was heavy ,didn’t have to worry about speeding tix and easy to handle. . Fast forward 15 yr- during these years as each of our 3 girls turned 16 they got the honor of learning to drive In this marvelous , gas guzzling , oil devouring beast . When the last one finished college last spring ,I now got her back. After 4 teenagers & 285000 miles the old LC is still kicking. Had to take us thru the snow last week. This car is tough, comfortable and safe. Thank you Toyota.

Brakes and Rotors

Bought the Land Cruiser because I heard of its great reliability. Its been a good car, able to haul kids up skiing and having no trouble with snow. My problem is maintenance. It goes through brake pads and rotors. Second set of rotors in 80,000 miles. Also had the head gasket blow out in Vail, which was extremely expensive. Spent far more on maintenance on this car than any other I've owned, including my Fords. I leave it in the garage except to haul kids skiing. Think I got the LC Lemon.

I've been driving this truck for ten years now and I love it! I've never driven or ridden in anything that felt more solid. My biggest complaint are the brakes. New pads every 25K miles. The starter went out at 140K and I believe it was $65 to rebuild it. The EGR sensor went out at 110K miles, right after plowing through 2 feet of water. That was pricey at about $400.

A little surprised at the maintenance costs. Bought this vehicle used at 78k miles. At 86k the catalytic converters had to be replaced, along with front knuckle seals. Fortunately, the dealer covered the converters under warranty. But the front knuckle seals were $1200! Now VSV valve is bad -- cost $400+.

I've had my LC for 7 years and the only things I've had to replace are tires and brakes. The car is bulletproof not just in toughness but also styling and functionality. Surfing out of the way spots is a piece of cake. Driving in snowdrifts - no problem. Pulling up to the finest restaurants - you feel totally comfortable and stylish. This car will be used for years to come and will never be sold...

After 9K miles in four months, I am still in awe of this vehicle. I picked this over brand new Envoy/TrailBlazer and Yukon/Tahoe. Am very happy with my choice. The extremely capable full time 4 wheel drive did not skip a beat during some fairly adverse winter driving conditions. I am already thinking in terms of the "next" Land Cruiser.

It's a triple locked 1996 with 300K on the odometer. Almost everything still works and it runs and drives incredibly well. It appears that previous owners performed good mechanical services but the interior is rough. I'm looking forward to going through it and restoring it to its former glory. Then, I'm sure it will outlive me and I my kids will inherit it!
