Enjoying my FJ
I have owned Jeeps for the last 30 years so this was a big change and I was a little apprehensive at first at changing my 4X4 ride. Now that I have had the FJ for three months I can say this is the best 4X4 I have ever owned. It four wheels with the best that Jeep has to offer and is much more comfortable to ride in.
Good, but not great
Been driving mine for last 2 yrs and it is fun, but on the practical side pretty bad blind spots (everyone agrees on that), exterior paint chips easily, front windshield already cracked ($309 replacement... not sure where the person lives who paid $1200). The clamshell doors are terrible for getting in and out of. The front seat back won't even fold forward enough to help with rear entry. Noisy ride. When visor down, can't see a thing. Sorry to bring everyone down, but this a long list to consider when deciding to buy. Still the most original SUV around.

Eleven years later, not one penny spent on repair
Purchased new in '07, first one in our valley. Now have 87K miles. No repairs or warrantee issues, ever. Sure I have replaced the AWFUL Bridgestone OEM tires with K2s, wiper blades every two or three years, and the windshield twice (rock chips). This machine still has the original Panasonic battery! Living near the Rocky Mountains on the edge of the great west desert, I do not baby this machine; it goes where I point it and has significant "Rocky Mountain Pinstriping" to show for it. I did replace the bash-plate (flimsy sheet steel) with 1/4" steel from Man A Fre and the shocks with Bilstein. I wish the primer coat under the Black Cherry paint was a dark color, rock chips show off too easy.

The one to buy
Another great design by Toyota. Outstanding in all respects. Only issue is rearward visibility when backing up is not very good. I look forward to driving this vehicle every day! Highly reccomend it to anyone.
Sorry to see it go
I love my FJ. It's a mini tank! I have 215,000 miles on it. Everything still works great! I would buy a new one today if they still made them. One negative is limited visibility rear and sides. You have to get use to that situation for safety. The spare tire, hanging off the back door, always gave me the feeling that someone was tailgating me . I never felt that to be a problem. It actually kept me on my toes.
