Good Car, BUT Early Failure of Power Steering

Purchased new May, 2019, have only 900 miles to date, and twice received in-car alert that the... power steering electronics had malfunctioned and MUST hold on to steering wheel... Take Car To Dealer. Took car to dealer and after a review, was advised that the malfunction code was cleared and I was good to go. The next day when my wife was driving in expressway traffic the malfunction kicked in and she lost power steering and had to maneuver to the side to avoid an accident. Got the car to the dealer and was informed that electronic power steering module needs to be replaced. WOW!!! Schedule to pickup today but my wife is fearful about driving it. Dilemma!!!

Shifting delay issue solved!!!

Test drive was fine, but it was basically all freeway. Bought it with 5 miles on it. On the way home the shifting lag became pronounced. Acceleration was jerky and the lag made it dangerous. Went back to Toyota Irvine Service dept. Which was a nightmare in & of itself. They were no help, rude and 4 hours later they told me it was normal. Offered us to test drive another and see that they are all that way. After zero help from Toyota I tried anything and everything to fix the issues. It turns out the lag and jerky shifting is due to the traction control system. If you turn off traction control using the button on the dashboard left of the steering wheel. The car drives how you expect a Camry should. It shifts smoothly and has a more aggressive acceleration response. I just want Toyota to come up with a permanent solution so I don't have to disable traction control each time I start the car.

I'm in love with my new car. I'm 22 years old and It's my first purchase and I'm more than satisfied. It's fun and easy to drive, especially when it's been on the road for awhile. It rides over bumps smoothly, though I wish it was smoother and the engine noise is also subtle; however, I do wish it was a little more quieter when sitting idle. There is also a delay when shifting and accelerating. I can imagine it can be dangerous when switching lanes and merging. I can feel the car downshift and idle as well. I've driven a stick shift so I can definitely notice an idle engine. It also takes a second or two to accelerate when pressing on the gas. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the ECO fuel economy setting or not but it's noticeable. The exterior is gorgeous, especially when looking at it during the night time. I have the super white exterior color and it's a beauty to look at. The interior is.. Elegant. Subtle. It has a very calming feel to it. I have the black interior btw. One thing that does need improvement though is Entune. If you have an iPhone, you do not need EnTune. I do so it doesn't bother me much but when I did briefly use it, it's useless. There's a lot Toyota can do with it but right now, use CarPlay. And if you don't have an iPhone, you're better off texting and driving rather than dealing with all the issues I've read with using Entune. Kidding but not really. Don't text and drive. I would love for remote start to be included for a $24,000 car. Or at least the Entune remote start. It would've been awesome. One last thing, the three setting gear shift (ECO, NORMAL, SPORT), I feel should be included on all trims. But in all, I do like my car and enjoy driving it. I recommend it for all, especially iPhone users lol. Thanks for those who read. February 4, 2021. I still have my Camry and it’s still a very good car with great gas mileage. But I’m dying to trade it in. I think this will probably be my first and only Camry that I’ll ever own. I’m currently sitting at 29,000 miles and have yet to have any issues with the car. Never had to take it in, no leakage, blew out tire, no scratches or dents so it held up pretty well. The transmission is still weird. It still idles at a certain MPH and the car itself is a little.. boring. I’d recommend leasing this vehicle. As it’s value decreases more than I thought. You’ll enjoy it for 1-2 years then you’ll get bored and want something new. November 14, 2022. I traded my car in for a V8 Camaro a few months back. Haven’t looked back since lol.

This is my 4th Camry and this is by far the loudest engine . It takes a long time to pick up to speed.
