Used 2002 Toyota Camry Consumer Reviews
Good Reliable Car
This car is very reliable and has great gas mileage. My average has been close to 28-30 miles and on long road trips about 31-32. Its not the most exciting to drive but it is reliable and very low maintenance.
Above average
This car is sporty looking, but overall its a nice car. Great mileage and i enjoy the motor. So far i had o get a new motor costing around 1800.00 . Hate the breaks and hate the plastic on the front. Love the car tough

my 4th toyota
this is my fourth toyota,1990,1992,1999 and now a 2002.my only complaint a thumping sound coming from the rear suspension on bumpy road.took it to two different dealers and they cannot find anything wrong with it.maybe they hear it,but dont know how to fix it. except for this problem everything else works like a charm after over a year of driving it.
Frank's Opinion
This is the 12th new vehicle (5 of the others were also Toyota"s) that I've purchased new over the past 22 years, and it appears that this car is going to be the cream of the crop!! Although I've only put about 4500 miles on the car in 5 months.
Smooth Car
Great car!
GREAT CAR FOR MONEY
Excellent gas mileage. Seems like goes forever with tank of gas. Feels like a luxury car with smooth and quieter ride. 4 cyl engine is very responsive and efficient. very reliable. i have 80k on it and still very smooth. no rattles.
Camry-Better than you thought
I am very impressed with this vehicle. Traded in a lexus ES 300. This is actually a little bit nicer all around. Of course it is loaded, but even a loaded V6 XLE is about $9000.00 less than a Lexus ES 300. As for comparisons to other vehicles in this catagory, I think you need to do a little more work. The Camry is definitely the class of this group.....!
Not what they used to be
My hood doesn't line up on my car,and there is a rattle coming from the right side door
Camry SE
This vehicle has it all. Good looks, good ride, and best all Toyota reliability. I can say i drove alot out there and almost settled for a taurus but the the new Camry come along and changed all that. The ride is a little on the firm side but it is the sport model and bang for buck it by far beat the rest.
White XLE
I hate this car, I will never every buy a Camry again, After leaving the dealership, transmission issue, check engine light, brakes, leather seats, my new car was in the shop for the first complete month, and after 7 more times for the same issues. I hate this car, will never ever buy a Toyota again
Solid Car
2002 Toyota Camry! To me that means reliability. The car has a lot of power for a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder. It performs nice with the exception on very loose steering. Uneven pavement will cause the car to pull easily although the alignment is right on. .
Problems
I just bought the used '02 Camry from a friend. In 500 miles, the catalytic converter went out, the A/C seems to be really week, I noticed the steering wheel squeaks (specifically on sharp turns), the rearview mirrors sags and it vibrates with the music on at any decent level, and the entire vehicle vibrates when coming to a stop. The dealership replaced rotors and pads and it is no better. The car is comfy and has good pickup, but so far I am very concerned about the quality, or lack thereof.
Fine car!
I think this car was built just for my needs, i cant ask for anything more. This car is quite, comfortable the 4 cyl engine feels like a v6.
Buy It
Have less than 1000 mile on it but I want to give you my opinion. Buy this car. The quality can not be touched by Ford or Chevy. That's it.
Oops....
I'm sure that it will be reliable and hold its resale value. But it is NO FUN to drive and the styling is not pleasing. I do like the superb 4- cylinder engine which is powerful, smooth and economical. Gees, put this engine in an Accord and then we'd have something!
Toyota Camry review
I have regularly had my Camry serviced and have had no problems. At 40,000 miles, it drives as smooth as ever. The Camry has a very relaxing feel to it, and because of it's quality, will be reliable for years to come.
Love My Camry
I purchased this New 2002 Camry in October, 2001, and have been pretty much delighted with it. Issues I've had include creaky steering wheel, door trim replaced (under warranty), 2 sets of tires, battery and water pump replacement. Still on the original brakes - have taken it in twice for new brakes and was told didn't need them. Right now am experiencing white smoke from the tailpipe at initial start, but don't consider that a problem (yet). I plan to drive this car until the wheels fall off!
almost perfect
I test drove a Camry LE, 4 cyl. automatic and a Camry SE V6 automatic. I fell in love with the Camry LE, 4 cyl. and purchased it in early February. It has plenty of power to merge on to freeways here and more than enough oomph to manuvere around traffic so I felt the V6 didn't add that much to the performance. I also preferred the Camry LE's traditionally tasteful interior to the SE's more metallic tones. So far, it's been almost perfect.
MY 2002 CAMRY
When my Corolla was starting to get too small for me, I decided to get something larger. I purchased and extended warrantee, and have yet to use it. This vehicle made it through two years if freezing Toledo, Ohio without a single problem. I just turned 54,500 miles, and the car drives like new. This will most certainly be my last vehicle. With this low mileage, the car will outlast me.
2002toyota camry xle
for the money the car is a good buy.first 1000 miles no problems, but wish i bought 6 cyl.
OWN two 2002's- Desert Sand and Silver
Great car on the freeways. The four cylinder eat very little and has the pickup to take 4 to the mountains with no problem. Very Comfortable in the front, side and rear seats. Trunk is huge!!!! Plenty of storage everywhere.
Big Disappointment
I traded a 97 XLE for the fully loaded 02 XLE V6. From the biginning the car started having integrity problems, it rattles and clicks, the curtain air bag cover on the driver side is loose and now after just two months the side molding is getting unglued. Time for a third trip to the dealer, what a shame. The 97 XLE was perfect, no problems for five years.
The Best Car under $30,000
After researching and test driving all types of vehicles under $30,000, the Toyota Camry outperformed all other vehicles in its class. Looks, reliability, fuel economy, ride comfort, spacious interior: It has it all! When I told my sister-in-law about my Camry she was skeptical (she just bought a Honda Accord) and did not even want to see it. However, she had dinner with us and when she walked by the Camry she stopped and did not move for about 5 minutes! I could see a slight grin on her face that she tried to callowsly hide without success. For under $30,000, you won't find a better value.
2002 Camry LE
After buying previous vehicles that seem to break down before they are paid off, we wanted to end that cycle and invest in a car that we could keep for awhile. That's how we chose our used 2002 Camry LE! We have found it delightful to drive (after driving a minivan for years!), powerful (it's a 4 cylinder) enough to scoot out into traffic, roomy to hold 5 adults comfortably and quiet ride on the road! It looks like a smaller car on the outside, but all of our Honda- owner friends are amazed at the roominess the Camry has inside! As you can tell, we are VERY pleased!
Great design but minor rattles
I've had the car for 11,000 miles and find it to be a great car. The only concern I've had are the small rattles coming from doors. I've also noticed the engine idles rough when coming to a stop. I've never had much success with dealers fixing rattles and noises. Hope they don't get worse with age.
ok ok ok
for theprice you can`t beat it--my wife has an accord and that feels like a toy compared to my camry
Camry is the car to choose
I have had a Camry for 4 years and love it. It has an extremely comfortable and smooth ride. There is very little road noise. Reliability and resale are all above average. My husband's family have all enjoyed their Camrys so much that it is all they drive.
Like a Rock
Love it so far; very quiet and comfortable ride, and I have no doubt it will be reliable given my past experience with Toyotas.
aspen green camry
Great car. I would recommend it to anyone. Love the color, love the comfort, yada yada yada.
A Poor Choice
The Camry is a very comfortable car. For a long trip this car is quiet and it rides wonderfully. The interior controls are excellent. I am dissappointed with the build quality and the overall gas mileage (Average=23.1). There a intermittent rattles that cannot be fixed. The styling is bland. I would not buy this car again.
It is my mistress
I love my Camry so much that my wife considers her the other woman. She is washed weekly and fully detailed monthly. I drive her everyday everywhere and she is extremely reliable. The only drawback is that she is a summer car. In the winter her high performance tires need to be changed when ever there is call for snow and my original equipment Bridgestones only gave me a good 23000 miles. (I am a very aggressive driver)
Stepping up from 2001 Camry
I bought the SE version with the new 4 cyl. Thought about the V6 but couldn't see paying $2500 since the 4 pulls strong, much stronger than the 2001 4cyl I had. The ride, due to the SE suspension tweaks, is a bit jouncy but not irritatingly so. I have not had a chance to drive it to the Oregon coast yet to see how it handles. The JBL sound system is excellent. Overall, the car is a huge improvement over 2001- -more room, more power, more comfort. Still not a head-turner, though...
My toyoto experience
My experience with my Toyota! When I first test drove my Toyota I thought it was a little bigger car then I had planned but after getting used to it I wouldn't have it any other way. IT rides so smooth and nearly drives itself! Took a trip to Florida and you could really put your little finger on the steering wheel and it did the rest.. hugged the road so good. The trunk is very spacious. I love my Toyota
Best Selling Car
Quite Comfortable for a small family
Toyota is Tops
It is hard to imagine that this car is priced so low and is every bit as great as a Lexus at thousands more. No car could possible compare with this in this price range. I drove them all and their is absolutely no comparison.
Interior styling?????
This is my first Toyota and and I really like this car! One thing really irks me though. The ugly dash! I've always preferred "waterfall" type cockpits. Look at an Olds Aurora and you'll see what a dash should look like! And what's with the open bins? They look SO cheap! Can't Toyota put a hinged door on it???
An honest opinion.
I recommend this car with some exceptions. This is the most comfortable car I've driven so far. Adequate leg room for 6ft+ tall person. I have had some issues with this car also. The brakes stink. Too much travel and requires constant adjustment. Its too low to the ground. Fully loaded (5 pass) it scrapes the highway. Wish cruise control was molded in steering wheel. Cheap carpeting, keeps lifting. Overall quality could be better.
Looks Good!
How many weeks do you come home with a new car, run in the house and tell your spouse, "Honey, I Love my Car!"? I did for about three months. I still love it, but, she just got tired of hearing about it! Once I figured out what the "Clank" was when I first started out (it was the anti-lock brakes setting themselves) and the fact that once you stop, the cruise control resets itself (not like American cars that retain their memory until you turn the car off), I fully enjoyed driving my Camry! The gas mileage could be better, but I like the V6 anyway - nice power for this sedan. Good feel for the road without being too harsh.
Best car I have owned
This is the 9th car that I have owned, both foreign and domestic, and this is the best, most comfortable car I have owned. All of my cars have been manual, and this is the slickest tranny that I have driven.
WOW!
This is my first Toyota product. I love this car. I have test driven the Altima, Accord, and felt they were worthy cars but one test drive in my Camry and I was sold. This car is the best. I love the styling, I love the ride quality. True it's no sports car but, who's looking for an exciting sports-like ride in a family car. If you are buy a Maxima but, if you want solid dependability, a smooth care free ride. There is none better than the Camry.
PLEASED
Bought the SE 4-Cylinder in October 2001 when they were first available. We've been very pleased overall with a few minor complaints but of course we're very hard to please when it comes to spending 25 grand on a car! Test drove the Honda Accord & Nissan Altima & neither compared to the comfort & smooth ride of the re-designed Camry. For as much time as we spend in the car we decided that the Camry was definately worth the extra money.
Fun Car To Drive
Bought my 2002 SE (w/ manual transmission) in 01/2003 brand new. Love the handling and good acceleration. Get a combined gas mileage of about 29 MPG (wish it could've been higher) and 33-34 MPG on freeway (at a constant 70-80+ MPH). Not a true sports car but is good enough for me, especially w/ 16-in tires. I like my wife's 1997 Camry LE but this one is far better in terms of performance and gas mileage.
Love My Camry!!
I just purchased my first toyota and I LOVE it! I will never go back to american built cars. It is so smooth riding and I cannot believe how powerful the 4 cyl engine is. My husband has a V6 engine in his car (not a toyota) and I think the acceleration is just as good, if not better, with my camry. The controls are simple and designed to be in good reach for the driver. It is very quiet and has a great sound system. I can get just over 500 miles on a tank of gas (mainly highway miles)I think I will be a toyota buyer for life!
Best All Around!
The cars new look is WAY ahead of the previous (yawn) version. The interior is innovative, clean, sporty, and has ALOT of room. All controls are top rate, and ergonomically correct. The SE is as luxurious and quiet, refined and trustworthy as you expect for the driving you will do 85% of the time. BUT, it also has the verve to take wonderful curvy mountain roads and turn them into pure driving entertainment.
My Cheap Lexux
I love this car but wish I could have my cake and eat to. I wanted the NAV. system, but had to give up the CD- Changer. Sinmce I spend a lot of time on the road and love music.... Car also need audio controls on steering wheel. Altima & Honda has it. Thinking of getting another Camry, but will wait to see if any improvments are made.
Very nice car
So far, so good. We have about 7000 miles on car, getting over 30MPG in combination city/hwy driving. Car is quiet and predictable, sound system in XLE and climate controls are first rate. Everything works well, including power roof. Traded a Chrysler Concorde for Camry, and feel we made a good move.
Everything you would want bundled up.
The Camry has not changed it's reputation over the years. It is a vehicle that gives you a quiet, silky smooth ride, plenty of pep on the road, while maintaining a compact car like gas mileage. 33 MPG on the highway. The 4 cylinder engine, at 160 hp, would fool most people as they would think they were driving a 6 cylinder. Rear seating provides adequate space for a family of 4. The dash functions are simple and well laid out. When I look at the new sticker prices of some of the less dependable vehicles on the market today . . . the Toyota Camry is an absolute bargain with it's price, comfort, style and overall dependability.
Thump in rear suspension
I love this car except for the thumping sound in the rear suspension on bumps. It's been to the dealership 3 times for this. The claim they hear nothing. It's always there on bumpy roads. I think they hear it but don't know of a fix. It is very annoying on bumpy roads or tar strips on the freeways.
the car I wish I had not bought
I have had to replace the tires twice- on top of the tires that came on my car-I am not pleased- my steering wheel squeeks like mad and my brakes have started sounding off to. I still owe too much to trade without giving it away- I seriously doubt I will ever buy another Toyota.
02 Camry....not too thrilling
We purchased the 02 Camry to replace the 96 which started to have problems and was getting older. We typically keep our cars until around 100k. I always go with a used car off a lease as we save big $$. We loved the 96 and it drove so nice and smooth, it was no thought to look at another make as my wife really liked it. The quality of the 02 is no way as good as the 96. The materials on the inside are cheap feeling and already show wear after 25k miles of use. We take very good care of our cars so it is not from abuse. the brakes are AWFUL. Toyota shoule be ashamed of itself.
