Used 2002 Toyota Camry Consumer Reviews
The best on the highway
I have had many Camry's over the years. The engine in my 2002 camry is a big plus, because it finally has enough power in the 4 cylinder. The seats are comfortable on long trips. The sound proofing is very good. The styling is a more stylish not dull .
Great Quality, Great Price...Great Car
This is my second Camry and third Toyota and I have had zero problems with any of them. The low price you pay and the high quality you recieve is something I've always admired about Toyota. I've been in cars twice as expensive that didnt have the fit and finish quality of this Camry. If you want the best quality for your money your only choice is the Camry or maybe the Honda Accord.
Zoe's Baby
This is the second Camry I have owned, and bought it after the great experience from the first. I have been driving this car the last 4 years, and have enjoyed every minute. The car is 100% reliable, and I feel safe on the long trips I make each month. I have never had any problems with the car! If you want a car for long-term ownership, this is the one for you!

Camry beats Accord
We've had many Accords over the years but didn't choose Camry because of the milk-toast styling. We finally decided to give Toyota a try in 2001. The car may not look as good from the outside as an Accord, but the comfort and the low noise level on the inside far exceed what Honda can offer. Driving is smooth and enjoyable. The 4 cylinder is very responsive and actually "zippy" with only 2 people in the car. Standard stereo speakers are great. 30-32 MPG is normal.
Good family sedan
Got this car about two weeks back. I test drove Accord and Jetta. I love its smooth run, good handling and almost noiseless engine. It is very comfortable and fun .
good car
this car is a peppy car it gets in to the tight spots easily its a fast car get nice gas milage and looks nice. over all good car.
Third Camry
Had some trouble initialy with a pulling to the left problem but it was corrected by the dealership. Had awful conntinental tires. Replaced them at Sam's with Goodyears. It drove better than new. No other problems of note. Test drove all other cars in Camry's price range and slightly above. None even came close to the tight sound and comfort of Camry's quality.
An 8 Camry owner
My 2002 Camry LE was the 8th Camry I've had since they came out almost 20 years ago and I will always come back. I have had nothing but excellent experiences with Toyota dealerships over the years, with any problems I've had. (and they have all been minimal). I've road tested other cars, but always come back. Best overall value for the money.
Vanilla is Good
"Bland, vanilla, appliance"...yup, and just the way we like it. The Camry LE provides excellent value, dependability, fit & finish and quality of soft-touch materials. It is quiet and roomy while delivering 500 miles per tankful. The highway ride is composed with an honest 32 highway miles per gallon from the responsive and sophisticated four- banger. Mid-level LE includes power driver's chair and outside temperature display. My only gripe is a recent dash rattle.
Sorry Chevrolet....
For $26,000 I got a lexus ES 300 without the Lexus price. This car is big! Really big. My boss has a Chysler 300M and it is nearly Identical in size. I drive 45k to 50k miles a year. I know that I'll get 200k out of this car. I looked at the Impala LS and for a few dollars more I got a Camry SE V6 loaded.
Chucks
This vehicle is very dependable. This is my 4th Toyota, I still have 3 since they run forever. Just change the oil and go.
A happy customer
Still in the breakin period, 400 miles. No problems experienced to date. Everything appears tight.
Good & Bad
The overall design is fairly decent, however, the interior of my Camry has flaws. First of all, the radio has been replaced twice (it's on the third one!), the console drink holder has broken and the brake pedal makes intermittent noise. The ride is very smooth and quite and the back seat is comfortable for evenings out with guests. Great turning radius and easy to drive. If Toyota can just get the interior problems corrected I would be overjoyed with the car.
Spongy Brakes
We have owned this Camry since March 2003. We traded a 96 Camry in and it was a much better vehicle. The 96 was superior in almost everyway. We have had numerous problems. Squeaky belt, wind noise, water pump failed at 37K miles. The paint is thin and can be seen through. Toyota should be ashamed to sell a vehicle with such poor brakes. They are spongy and offer no feel, almost as if they are too small for the car. The car does not have ABS and perhaps that would offer some additonal confidence.
2002 XLE 4 Cyl w/ Pkg. 8+
I just purchased the 2002 Camry XLE with Pkg. 8 plus heated seats and curtain airbags. I believe Toyota did their homework on this one and nailed the design (near perfect).
Best Car had to Date
Just bought my Camry with 78,000 miles. I get better gas mileage with this car than I did with any new vehicle I have bought. I also have a newer Ford Taurus, and it doesn't come close to the mileage. The get up and go is much much better than the Taurus also. It is a quiet and easy ride. I would have preferred a seat that would lower and raise but otherwise okay. The placement of the clock is not very convenient to other passengers and armreast could be raised a little to make it more comfortable. Other than these minor things, I think I made a great choice and will probably buy Toyota again.
2002 CAMRY SE V6 Automatic
okay first of all let me state that im a 20 year old hp hungry 0-60 timing blood thirsty performance oriented driver, and i drive a camry. i love it, i got a dark blue one and just recently tinted it out and i literally get 100 compliments a day, only i wish TRD would start making some high performance products such as an air filter or body kits of the sort, hopefully theyll do it soon.....
Solid Sedan
Camry LE with 4 cylinder is a solid performer that has plenty of power for any traffic. Excellent ride and room without the high cost of a luxury car. At 30-34 mpg on the highway it consistently gets good gas mileage. Back seat is very comfortable for long rides. The old Camrys were great, the new ones are better.
toyota camry 2002
Good ride. Handles very well. Would like roomier interior. Getting 31mpg on highway and 23-26 in the city.
Toyota Camry XLE Owner
The new body design and larger interior feeling have been done just right. This is a great riding, comfortable car with all the "nice to have" features at a very reasonable price. A lot of improvements have been made since my previous 1999 Camry. Things that I thought could be improved have been. We are very happy with our decision to buy another Camry.
Camry
This is our 3rd Toyota and this one will be the last one. We are very disappointed about the Toyota company. This car run well and smooth, but I think that the quality reputation of Toyota is over evaluated (specialy for the price of the supposed quality). After 58000Km the left rear brake pads were fully used but the right ones were half used (normal!? according the dealer, went elsewere for the repair of course) One security problem is the liquid washer nozzles are not adjustables and spray the liquid only at the bottom of the windshield, and specialy during the winter time that is very dangerous when you can't see in front of you (dealer replace them, no improvement) Motor oil consuption
One hell of a good purchase
I bought the vehicle on a friends advice and love it. It rides nice, drives nice, and gets some awesome gas mileage. There is not much to really say except that it's a typical Toyota, reliable, economical, and practical. The 2litre engine is excellent and peppy for a vehicle this size but the brakes are a little spongy. I tend to have a lead foot and this vehicle responds so well to the abuse I put it through that I will definetly buy another Toyota for my next car which will probably be in three years. It is an excellent vehicle and is everything I need and then some from a vehicle.
Camry SE
I have today about 17500 miles on my 2002 Toyota Camry SE. I have never driven a car so hard and so long in less than twelve months. The car is everything as if just off the showroom floor. My Camry is just a notch above the base model SE with just the electronics upgrade and though unneeded, an ashtray. The interior is roomier than previous Camrys with plenty of headroom. The interior is tasteful and pleasing to the eyes throughout a long drive. Through my driving, the car is suprisingly quiet. Engine revving isn't the way to scare pedestrians in this car but the engine lets you sneak up behind them.
the best family sedan on the market
are you looking for a dependable, yet fun to drive car, well here it is, the new toyota camry. the ride is nice and smooth, quiet interior, and comfortabe seats. also it has a lot of value for your dollar. power driver seats are now standard on le and se models, and on the honda accord, its only standard on the ex, which is more money. the other features are power windows, mirrors, locks, cd player, and much more to list here.
Good CAR!
We can't believe the room. I wish I had purchased one a long time ago. Fast pick up for a 2.4, I thought it was a 6c when we rented one for vacation.
2002 Toyota Camry XLE
Excellent car for handling, fuel economy, and value quality. Normal maintence checks will keep car running for many miles.
Love my Camry
I am very pleased with my 2002 Camry SE. I purchased it new, and the styling still looks fresh. I have had absolutely zero problems with this car. It is still perfect and drives like new. Although it only has a 4 cyl engine, the pick up is excellent. Friends have commented that it feels like a V6 in power. This is the longest that I've ever kept a car! (almost 5 years)
Camry is OK for the price
Owned 02 Camry since new - few problems prior to warranty expiration. Since warranty has expired, the seat belt doesn't retract properly and the driver door will not always unlock to get out! Have had 2 prior Camrys. Though mechanically dependable, I don't think the quality is what it used to be in the early 90's.
Same as Lexus and Less expensive
This is a Honda Accord Killer
Four-time Toyota Owner
I love my 2002 Camry. I have had three Camry's and one Corolla and have enjoyed them all. Next time I will get the V6.
Great Car
This xle 4 cyl has good pickup with great gas mileage. I am 6'3 and feel very comftorable in this car.
18 months no problems
Bought in spring 02, and after 18 months no issues. Runs smooth, quiet, 2.4L has plenty of power and good economy. Have taken many long trips and very pleasant driving with family of four--two teenagers.
Highly Recommend!
I am very pleased with my 2002 Camry XLE. It was a replacement for my previous 1990 Camry which had 191K+ miles. I trust that my new 2002 will last as long. I am impressed with the MPG on road trips (30 MPG) and the comfort of the leather seats. I am also impressed with the Camry road handling. It may have been a bit pricey compared to the Honda Accord or Nissan Altima, but this 2002 is my fourth Toyota and I have had good experience with Toyota quality.
Camry very comfy
Very smooth riding car and quiet for this size and price range. Seats and roominess are very comfortable. Shifting is smooth, although acceleration for the 2.4L is not that great, but adequate nonetheless. AC works fine, although Toyota (as well as many other brands) has to get a clue about heating. As anybody knows, hot air rises; thus, put heating vents as low to the floor as possible. I find that no matter how hot and heavy I run the heater, my feet remain cold while my upper body burns up. Fortunately, I don't live in a really cold place like Minnesota.
Shouldn't have bought early production
My 2002 rattles big time (in the engine and transmission). I took the Camry back to dealer 4 times, and they couldn't find the problem. I suspect they didn't want to do the work, and just gave me some lame excuse. I learned my lesson, which is to wait until Toyota (or another manufacturer) works the kinks out of the production. I will never buy a new model until the second year. If I had spent an extra 5 grand, I could have bought the Lexus 300, which is practically the same car. Yes, my Toyota Camry still rattles.
3RD generation sucess
I never considered anything else.No one has the rock solid reliabilty. Having a 96 and a 99 the improvements are great. Its like they fixed everything I did not like about the earlier models. Auto door locks, auto headlamps, modest power, little rear leg room, cheap sounding horn, uncomfortable seats and poor radio. The car is perfect.
just ok, not great
The car is OK if you like 4 door sedans. Don't buy it for the value though, it doesn't hold any. The road noise is a little too much on the highway but handles OK. My Dodge truck is a lot quieter. Watch out for the dealers though, we found they are the biggest liars and won't buy another Toyota for that reason.
Smooth Car
Great car!
GREAT CAR FOR MONEY
Excellent gas mileage. Seems like goes forever with tank of gas. Feels like a luxury car with smooth and quieter ride. 4 cyl engine is very responsive and efficient. very reliable. i have 80k on it and still very smooth. no rattles.
Solid Car
2002 Toyota Camry! To me that means reliability. The car has a lot of power for a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder. It performs nice with the exception on very loose steering. Uneven pavement will cause the car to pull easily although the alignment is right on. .
Problems
I just bought the used '02 Camry from a friend. In 500 miles, the catalytic converter went out, the A/C seems to be really week, I noticed the steering wheel squeaks (specifically on sharp turns), the rearview mirrors sags and it vibrates with the music on at any decent level, and the entire vehicle vibrates when coming to a stop. The dealership replaced rotors and pads and it is no better. The car is comfy and has good pickup, but so far I am very concerned about the quality, or lack thereof.
Fine car!
I think this car was built just for my needs, i cant ask for anything more. This car is quite, comfortable the 4 cyl engine feels like a v6.
Buy It
Have less than 1000 mile on it but I want to give you my opinion. Buy this car. The quality can not be touched by Ford or Chevy. That's it.
Oops....
I'm sure that it will be reliable and hold its resale value. But it is NO FUN to drive and the styling is not pleasing. I do like the superb 4- cylinder engine which is powerful, smooth and economical. Gees, put this engine in an Accord and then we'd have something!
Toyota Camry review
I have regularly had my Camry serviced and have had no problems. At 40,000 miles, it drives as smooth as ever. The Camry has a very relaxing feel to it, and because of it's quality, will be reliable for years to come.
Love My Camry
I purchased this New 2002 Camry in October, 2001, and have been pretty much delighted with it. Issues I've had include creaky steering wheel, door trim replaced (under warranty), 2 sets of tires, battery and water pump replacement. Still on the original brakes - have taken it in twice for new brakes and was told didn't need them. Right now am experiencing white smoke from the tailpipe at initial start, but don't consider that a problem (yet). I plan to drive this car until the wheels fall off!
2002toyota camry xle
for the money the car is a good buy.first 1000 miles no problems, but wish i bought 6 cyl.
OWN two 2002's- Desert Sand and Silver
Great car on the freeways. The four cylinder eat very little and has the pickup to take 4 to the mountains with no problem. Very Comfortable in the front, side and rear seats. Trunk is huge!!!! Plenty of storage everywhere.
One fine car
I've got almost 92,000 miles on my 2002 Camry LE. I purchased it used with around 38,000 miles. This was a good decision! I like the crisp power in entering traffic and passing on the freeway. Fuel economy is very good. I get about 31 mpg when pushing 80 on the freeways. It doesn't move around much on windy days. Brakes feel a bit spongy compared to some cars but the vehicle stops very well and with the anti-lock brakes I can get on it hard and it stops true! I change oils (transmission oil, too) and filters. If you want to keep a strong flow from the fan (heating or cooling), it helps to change the filter directly in back of the glove box. Will this car go 250,000 miles? I may find out!
