Comfortable Drive
My kids are desperate to drive this beauty but this is Dad's "chickmobile"! The car runs so quietly I have probably torn a few teeth off the starter thinking it has stalled! The front strut mounts (as I see with others owners) have both had to be replaced. The ABS brakes are way too sensitive and kick in at the least unevenness in the road surface when braking. It is a very comfortable drive for long journeys and has only let me down once with a dead battery. Had an window motor blow up which scared the pants off me but overall I would buy another Solara, providing it has the same quality interior as my 99.
Best car I've owned
I have owned much more expensive cars but none that perform day in and day out like my Solara

Nothing can touch it for the money
I purchased my Solara about five years ago when it had 74,000 miles on it. The timing belt/water pump had just been replaced. Since then I have put an additional 70,000 mile on it and have only changed the oil and filter, the front struts and strut bearings, and one set of tires. Brakes have over 70K on them and are still not totally worn out. This cars continues to amaze me with the build quality. I have owned 6 Hondas and 4 other Toyotas and this car is the best by far. Since it is coming up on ten years old, I want to replace it, but cannot justify that when the car runs as well as it does. Averages about 20mpg in the city and 25-27 on the highway.
I think the front struts need a recall
Everything has been great with this car except for the front struts that I have had to bring in to be serviced. That cost over $300. It is obviously a common problem and should be recalled and fixed by Toyota at no cost to the car owners.
NICE RIDE
I have had great success with my 1999 Toyota Solara SLE. I change the oil every 3500 miles and I only deal with Toyota for servicing my vehicle. The car is a dream to drive and it looks sharp too! I have leather power seats, moon roof, side air bags, nice cd player and an excellent resale value on it. Very nice car
