Used 2003 Toyota Avalon Sedan Consumer Reviews
Plenty of Room
This is a quality automobile. We have had the car only one month but so far it is everything we expected and then some. There is a specific reason we purchased the Avalon. ROOM. I am a taller person and have a problem with any automobile with a moon roof. Most upscale automoblies come with a moon roof as standard equipment. I therefore could not purchase a Lexus, Acura etc. The Avalon XL we purchased has many luxury options but does not have a moon roof and therefore has plenty of head room. I might also say that the bench seat is very comfortable for the passenger as well as anyone in the back seat.
Best of the Best ...Silent Screamer
This is my favorite car
A Remarkable Value
As a sales rep that covers Ohio to the West Coast by car (20 States) I "live" in my car. I've had VW's Volvo's and Saturns over the last 20 years and NOTHING compares to the complete performance package of the Avalon XLS.
Fabulous Automobile in All Respects
I have owned over 25 automobiles (and I'm only 36 y.o.!), and my recently purchased 2003 Toyota Avalon XLS (bucket seats model; Lunar Mist Metallic/Stone Leather; fully loaded) is, by far, the best automobile I've ever owned. My parents have owned their share of fine automobiles, including Lexus, and the level of refinement and quality with this automobile can easily be compared with the top-level Lexus LS Sedans. From the ultra smooth VVT-i V6 engine, to the superb ride, to the excellent fit and finish throughout, this car is fabulous in all respects and a great value.
AVALON SUPERIOR CAR
When I purchased my AVALON, I had no idea what an AVALON was - had never heard the name. I saw it on a lot and asked, "What is That?" I checked the "specks" and decided to buy. The single best decision I have ever made. The nicest car I have owned.
2003 Toyota Avalon
Exceptionally comfortable and functionally includes everything, but lacks excitement. Still gets great gas milage.
Avalon is a Home Run
This will be my third Avalon. The first two were excellent cars. Hopefully this will be equally as good.

Not a Lexus
This is not the Luxury car I had hoped to get, dash is not driver friendly, should have radio/heater control on steering wheel, seats not comfortable, 4 way power seats does not give enough adjustment for comfort, computer on dash is big and ugly, lighting doesnt even match rest of controls ,needs a clock so you can leave computer off, wouldnt buy again, will trade for Lexus VERY SOON
sorry i bought it
I like the styling of both the interior and exterior. I don't like the way the car handles on the hiway. It has pulled to the left from the first day that i bought it. They have aligned the front end 4 times and it still pulls. The car is not good if there is much wind it gets blown all over the road. The 2000 Impala that I traded was in my opinion a better built car.I would never buy a toyota again. I have driven other cars with a list price of the same or less and have decided that I made a big mistake.
STOP
Toyota has got to stop making these heavy and ugly bodies. The rest of the car is excellent but the power to weight ratio is horrible. 03' Maximas weight much less and have 45 more horses.
Not a Happy Camper
I finally broke down and bought a Toyota after hearing the glowing reviews from all the owners. What a mistake. I thought that I was buying a 'reliable' car. However, the day after I bought the car, it wouldn't start. The battery was dead. I checked and couldn't find any electrical item 'on'. The dealer towed it and replaced the battery. They couldn't find anything wrong either. The rest of the problems were minor compared to this, but I expected zero defects from the way everyone rants about Toyota. As soon as I find a gullible buyer, I'm unloading this trash.

Disappointing
Automatic temperature control is very inconsistent - to hot or to cold. Feet are hot, upper body cold. Brakes are poor, almost impossible to brake slowly they are on or off. Car nose dives when stopping quickly. Poor acceleration from stoped position. Doors must be slammed to close properly. Automatic wipers don't respond when needed. Poor traction in snow
Luxury From Toyota
The car has a very luxurious interior and the 2003 Avalon is even beter. The 2003 Avalon has a navigation system, mine didn't come, even as an option.
beware of paint staining
We've had the vehicle for two weeks, and love it so far. We did have trouble with the dealer, when the detailing department sprayed tire dressing on the tires. The dressing then stained the diamond white paint. The dealership had to buff out the clear coat and repaint the wheelwells and back quarterpanels (lower portion only). The service manager commented that the paint on the white cars was easy to stain. Purchased our 2003 model for $30,000, with moonroof, heated leather seats, floor mats, and diamond white paint, but only got wholesale for our '99 Chysler LHS.
OUTSTANDING VEHICLE !!!!!!!!!!!!
AFTER HAVE A MAXIMA (7YRS) & PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GT (2YRS) I FIND THIS CAR TO BE SUPERIOR IN EVERY WAY. MAXIMA WAS A GREAT CAR, BUT I FEEL NISSAN HAS FORGOTTEN ABOUT RIDE, COMFORT AND INTERIOR LOOKS FOR HORSEPOWER. I FEEL THE PONTIAC IS THE BEST OF THE GM LOT AND WAS A VERY GOOD CAR BUT THE ONLY REASON I BOUGHT THE PONTIAC BECAUSE OF THE GM CARD REBATE I HAD TO USE UP.I ALSO HAD A GREAT DEALER IN ARLINGTON TO WORK WITH.
One good car
The Avalon is a great vehicle, all the comforts one would want and the drive a car should have. Wife an daughter love the look.
Avalon
Nice car for the price
cheaper than a lexus
Great ride, comfortable, large trunk, roomy back seat.
2003 Avalon is still noisy
I heard something like wind noise in the front. The salesman, of course, said no, no. He couldn't hear anything. This is a luxury car. The audio system was fabulous. The salesman was talking. I turned off the music. I asked him to be quiet. On surface streets, it was lovely. The fan was blowing when I took it onto the freeway. But after I purchased it and drove it on the freeway all alone and with everything turned off, there is DEFINITELY noise. I still can't pinpoint it or figure out how this can be.
Great Car!!
We enjoy our Avalon -- especially the room. Any "problems" were well taken care of by the dealer, and they were nothing major, just a few adjustments.
awesome!
just got a 1998 lxs as early xmas present from hubby.. i love it! its pretty and comfortable!! very very nice car! and lots of room in the back also!
2003 Toyota Avalon XLS
Just picked up my new Avalon. Though I really like the car and it's design/amenities am sorely disappointed in the quality of the workmanship coming from the Kentucky assembly plant. Very poor fit on the body panels, interior plastic squeaks and the paint(pearl white) on the plastic rear bumper is about 8 shades darker than the rest of the car. Also, the wind noise with the moon roof open is almost deafening. Have owned 9 previous Toyotas but this is my first one assembled in the US. Perhaps I am expecting too much but the local service manager tells me that they have four times more problems with the US assembled Toyotas than those of the "J- Series".
A Lexus in Toyota Clothing
A limited budget kept me from buying another LS 400, so I swallowed my pride and looked at the Avalon. The moment I started it up, I knew it was something special. After driving it, I pronounced it "a Lexus masquerading as a Toyota". I decided on the fully loaded XLS. It differs very little from the Lexuses in quality and overall driving experience.
Owned for 22 years
Fantastic car. 140k miles and all I've done is change timing belt, new struts, new headlights. I changed oil every 3 to 4 thousand. Other than that, adhered to the recommended maintenance plan. Absolutely no trim problems inside the cabin.

Won’t ever sell this car
I am the 2nd owner of this Toyota Avalon XL. It is one of the easiest and most comfortable car I have ever driven. The visibility is great, best car for long drives and I love the trunk. Having the leather seats is an added bonus. It has 210,000 miles and I plan on keeping it hopefully to 300,000 miles!

Avalon climate control is bad design
The Climate Control Air Conditioning System is the ablolute worst thing that have ever been put in a quality car like the Avalon. Temp control is very inconsistant and gives heat to your feet and cold to your body. Why this system could not have been made better, or at least the same, as any American Made Automobile with a Climate Control A/C is beyond understanding. American cars have had a working system for at least 8 years that is far superior to this. I could never recommend the Avalon XLS over the XL.
Great w Two Annoying Flaws
Lux car equal to Lexus at 10K less.
Lincoln Man tries Toyota Avalon
Roomy enough for easy access for the handicap w/the bench seat and to accomodate a large walker or wheelchair. Only the 1990 Lincolns could do the same. Better buy. Taking it in; doesn't shift to low; door closes hard and just doesn't cool like the American makes. Like my Casis Pearl color; very attractive...
