Vehicle performance and comfort

Since I purchased this vehicle back in Nov 99, I have never had a serious problem with the vehicle. I service it according to the manufacturers book, not the dealers. Vehicle runs smooth and quiet. Seat comfort is great. Have a small back problem and my previous vehicles always gave me a problem; however, the Avalon, no problem. On the exterior design I gave it a 7 because I do not like the exhaust system hanging low on the vehicle. I notice this on a lot of Toyotas. Other than that, I love the vehicle.

Best car I've ever owned. Extremely comfortable seats - I've had two back operations so I need good lumbar support. Can drive all day with no back pain.

Car's interior, handling, quietness, leather, computer dash make the car a pleasure to drive and be in. Very reliable. Trunk is huge. More interior room than my es300 had.

My dad got our 2000 Avalon XLS from our neighbor who had obtained it from their father. It was mainly used for freeway travel to and from sac & the bay area. We got it at around 100,000 miles but it had been well taken care of and maintained. My dad originally bought it for my sister, she had it for 2 years but she didn’t service it 1 time in that 2 years. She then got a new car and the Avalon became mine, i spent about $1k on it, got it serviced, got new tires, brakes, & a new radiator hose (old one was deteriorating). Ive had it for about 2 years now, and it still runs great! I’ve gotten it serviced regularly, i've since had to replace the car battery, the starter, and the alternator but nothing major or too expensive. I need to replace the tie rods & control arms soon, and the shocks could use an upgrade. But it’s reliable, nothing in the engine itself has ever failed me, and no check engine light while i’m currently at roughly 206,000 miles. A/C still works great ( I live in California so that’s a necessity ) and so does the heater. The power outlets don’t work though, so you can’t charge your phone or plug anything in but i’m not willing to spend the money to find the issue. I’ve been rear ended in it by some guy going 60 and i was hit HARD, but only damage was to my bumper and i barely felt the impact. This is only my first car, but the 2000 Avalon XLS has made me a Toyota girl for life !

Engineering errors and Ergonomics

Sun shining from above and behind hits instrument cluster glass, reflects up on windshield and back into drivers eyes. Second problem is that you cannot shut the center air vents without turning off all four vents. If not shut off cold air chills the drivers right arm or if directed up, chills his bald head. . I . Also can't read the info panel unless tthe sun shine right on it. Dangerous as I must take my eyes off teh road to read the symbols.
