Used 2006 Toyota 4Runner Consumer Reviews
Pleasant Compromise
Overall quality of 4Runner is great. After 1K miles, gas mileage with mixed driving, mostly side roads is 19.5 to 20.2 MPG. Gas mileage on road trip, mostly turnpike, averaging 75 to 80 mph, was 19.2 MPG. Ride is smooth but has a slight truck bounce when driving over concrete washboard sections of highway. Visibility great. Hauled an interior 80" door in the cargo area. Have 72" or so clearance in cargo area after folding 2nd row seats flat.
Real 4x4 with car manners, quality built
Just purchased after researching and comparing several makes, ranging from VW Toureg, Volvo, even Mercedes. Tried the FJ Cruiser, love the retro look, but no room in back for kids, let alone adults. Already own an '03 Tundra, and since then am a converted fan of Toyota;never have to do more than routine maintenance on these cars, very tightly built. I also considered Highlander Hybrid, but need towing capacity the 4-Runner affords, and I am an old school fan of fully framed vehicles if you are going to tow. I will let my wife purchase a hybrid for her next car. Enviro and fuel econ. important to me, but not the only factor, since I drive only 8K/year. 4-Runner is classy & good value.

Good SUV, Not cheap
Good SUV for, the price can get a bit steep to get some options that others are offering standard (6 disc CD, auto off lights, integrated audio controls, etc.) I tested a lot of vehicles, if it weren't for the aggresive money factors on the lease from Toyota, I would have purchased elsewhere. Toyota has great quality but you sure pay for it, although the residuals help out in the end.
ever-impressive 4 runner
Toyota has done it again!! The 4 runner handles well with little to no engine noise. At 6'3" I was little apprehensive about how the 4 runner would accomodate my big frame; but I have no complaints. Towing is awesome. With a 15 foot boat in tow, I felt like I never lost control; nor did my brakes fail or burn.
Nice ride!
I traded in my 93 4-runner with 180k miles on a new 06. The 06 is averaging 19.6 mpg which is better than my old 93. The V8 has plenty of power to merge into traffic and pass when needed. The adjustable seat is very comfortable. The styling both in and out is eye-catching. I have had the truck for about a month now and honestly can't think of a negative thing to say about it. Toyota builds a quality product, and I will continue to drive them.
