4Runner rules!

I bought my 01 4runner new with 12 miles on it. Today it has 265000 miles on it and its still solid as the day I picked it up from the dealership. My baby has been all over the USA, hint for the high mileage and still hungry for more. This 4runner is the best vehicle that I have ever owned and I high recommend anybody interesting in buying a new car or truck to buy Toyota. I guess it's maybe time to change the timing belt, Lol!

Incredible - Will Never Sell

I wish I could give 6 stars. I bought my 2001 in 2010 with 156k miles on it. I'm at 292k now and have never had to do anything major. I'd drive her cross country in a second with no concerns. A couple water pump/timing belt services, brakes (Tundra brake upgrade), an alternator, and just recently my catalytic converters! Not may vehicles will outlast their catalytic converters, pretty incredible. The leather still looks great, runs like a top. If you take care of her, she will take care of you. I'll never sell it, even if I get another car which I will soon due to advances in technology. This beauty will remain my mountain/adventure rig though, practically has become a part of me at this point. I also have the Canadian version, which displays temperature in Celsius (cannot be changed) but also comes without that dumb rear spoiler thing which is nice. The design is timeless, its still one of the best looking SUVs on the road in my opinion. If you can find one in good shape, buy it. Suggest the Limited trim for the leather, power/heated seats, etc. Another nice thing, if you're handy with a wrench they are super friendly to work on. Lots of room, minimal plastics covering things. I've done valve cover gasket, brakes, alternator, and O2 sensors all myself.

Solid Pick

Bought it new in 11/2000. Has done the job admirably. No mechanical problems whatsoever and the hood scoop gives it a sporty look. Only disappointment is in pickup/engine power.

Excellent SUV

The 2001 4Runner is an outstanding SUV. Reliable, excellent in bad weather, and built to last through the apocalypse. Ever seen the Top Gear episode with the indestructable Toyota? This is the cousin of the Hilux, the car featured in that show. Nothing can take this beast down. Problems are few and far between. 140,000 miles of service life and many more to go.

Bought this vehicle with 100000 miles on it, not a rattle, or squeak no fluid leaks, no visible smoke or vapors, great gas mileage 21 mpg 90 per cent highway driving, off road fun and safe, handles snow/ice/wet conditions excellent, quiet and comfortable, a/c excellent (live in desert), heater same, tows my boat and trailer, my motorcycle and trailer, and my toy hauler travel trailer with no effort, hardly know anything is behind me. Need a bigger tow vehicle, but I love my Toyota so much, I will be happy with smaller toys just so I can keep my 4runner. Great piece of mechanical engineering and it is a matter of pride in ownership.
