Bigger but better?

Our 1999 Outback was totaled recently. My wife insisted on getting another Outback or perhaps a Forester. We were shocked how huge and hunky they have become. So we settled on an Outback. Hope they solved the head gasket problem. Only have driven it 500 miles so far. Hope to keep it fifteen years. Averaged 26mpg in our first fill up.

We have been enjoying this car for two weeks now, and the only complaints we have are menial. The car has an extremely smooth and comfortable ride quality while providing very good gas mileage for a car of its size. It would be nice to have a little more "ummf" under the hood, but I wouldn't call it underpowered. All in all Subaru has managed to improve an already great car!

Can't use Yakima or Thule

What was Subaru thinking? If using a Yakima or Thule rack system the bars can only be placed 21 inches apart with Subaru's 2010 new rack system. This makes the rack useless to true outdoors people. Forget placing a sea kayak, a canoe or anything longer than a small whitewater kayak (a play boat) on the rack. What a waste of an otherwise quality car!

4th sub - upholstery quality ba humbug

Upholstery - fabric fit and finish leaves something to be desired. 2002 legacy outback wagon was better at trade in than this is new. Loose fitting in one area "bunch" up in several areas. Mileage is good. Seats firm and comfortable. Rides well. CVT takes some getting used to - at times it's seems like it's not "c". Paddle shifting a fun to try. Visibility very good.

Has all the positive attributes of an SUV - AWD, roomy, ground clearance, smooth quiet ride - without the MPG penalty or awkward size. I am getting over 25 MPG in mostly in-town driving, so I expect around 30 on a road trip, which is way better than the EPA estimates and most of the competition. This is my second Subie - I put 142K on my first with few issues, so I anticipate great reliability.
