BMW Performance at Half the Price
The 2.5 GT autostick is a hoot to drive! Plenty of power on tap at any speed and confident handling. Turbo lag could be reduced. Car is comfortable for long (500 mile) trips and I have a bad back. Others considered: Infinity g35X, BMW 330ix, & Audi A4 Quattro. The 2.5 GT has all of the comfort and safety figures at a far lower cost. Build quality is excellent. The doors close with a reassuring thump. Take comparitive test drives, check your wallet and you'll by the Legacy GT

This car has it all. Comfort, safety, and fun. All wheel drive 250HP turbo is unbelievable. I test drove a WRX but realized it couldn't be the family car I needed. The Legacy GT was the answer. I test drove 330's, TL, TSX, 9-3, A-4. Nothing comes close to the fun of the Legacy. The all wheel drive along with the power is an unbeatable combination. You've got to test drive it to understand.
Subaru ups the ante!
Subaru has done its homework. Not only is this car attractive, it's also A LOT OF FUN TO DRIVE. Driving the 5 sp Auto in manual mode was a thrilling experience. Amazing pick up, sticks to the road and hugs corners better than anything I've ever driven. Even at high speeds the 2.5GT held it's composure. There was little noise in the cabin, the steering was responsive and direct, and ride comfort was not compromised. If you have to have safety, high performance, a sleek exterior, well appointed interior with AWD and the fun to drive factor in one package, take a look at Subaru's 2.5GT Legacy.
Rides Hard
I test drove 7 vehicles before buying my Subaru 2.5 GT LTD.(auto). I like the car a lot, however the ride is 'sporty', i.e. rides a bit hard if you are coming out of a car like an Accord V6 like I was. Power is great. The left-side rearview mirror is distorted and getting replaced (dealer was helpful, no problem). I miss a few things like radio controls on the steering wheel. I have the optional subwoofer and the radio sounds great. I find the seats a bit hard but finally found a good adjustment for me. No turbo boost gauge. My first tank I got 19.6 mpg., fair enough considering I was in the go pedal a bit. I love the way it looks, mine's black. So far, so good. I recommend it.
This car is sweet...
I have to say I truly love this car. I bought one in Oct '04. I went to the dealer really just to look, but they had exactly the one I was looking for (color, options) and I bought it right then. I have had one minor problem with a faulty cooling fan relay which they fixed and also gave me a good will offering for the trouble. This car handles great, has great acceleration, is comfortable, and everyone I know would like to have it. Random people ask me about it quite often. This is one of my favorite cars I have ever owned and I have had about 7 or 8 different vehicles now. If you have the money, go buy one.
Wow!
This car is a blast to drive. Most fun short of a BMW! And in a Wagon. The only negatives I have are 1) fuel economy (what do you expect when going from 0-60 in 6 seconds), and I could use more upper back support.
Subaru legacy 2.5 limited
I have only one complaint about this car. No mp3 option. That is it. It rides nice, has lots of power and can take a pretty good hit with minimal damage. My wife was rear-ended by a neon traveling 70km/hr, black ice, wrote the neon off. We have only 2 small cracks in the rear bumper and a plastic plate benieth the car for damage, about $900 CAD. My wife had a sore neck for roughly 7 days, but is fine now. I will probably never own another make of car if this one has little to no maintenance issues. So far so good. Average milage to date, including city driving is about 19mpg. These miles were hard ones. It got roughly 25-29mpg on highway trips, averaging 125-140km/hr(75-85mph)
Fun to drive
Excellent ride, very fast, steering wheel shifter. Nice winter package: heated seats, heated wiper blades, heated seats 4 positions. Nice comfortable seats. Drove a Volvo S80 T6. Excellent visibility.
No buyer's remorse
I tested many many cars before buying the Subaru Legacy Limited wagon. Very pleased with the safety features, and the space. It is one of the best priced cars in this segment of the market.
My Sports Sedan
This is my 3rd Subaru. Although I love my Outbacks, my goal was to treat myself to a fun-to-drive awd sedan w/great handling and smooth, powerful acceleration. Oh yes, I want the one w/all the perks too. Mission accomplished! For someone who hadn't driven a turbo, I needed to adjust (and I'm glad I did). I test drove this car 4 times at various dealerships to make sure this car was for me. I'm sure.
No contest in affordable sport wagons
Ride is excellent balance between handling and comfort. Steering laser precise. This car absolutely hauls when on boost, and is an extremely comfortable and competent high speed cruiser. There is no competition when you figure in price, AWD, available wagon version, and performance. Dodge Magnum AWD may be faster, but no way as competent or sophisticated in handling.
A Driver's Wagon
Just got our 2005 GT Ltd. Wagon 10 days ago. I was blown away during the test drive. The engine just pulls and pulls and pulls. Besides the fantastic engine, the interior was the deal clincher for me. I always liked Subarus in the past, but the interiors have never done anything for me before. In the 2005 model, I have to say that Subaru did a fantastic job in refining everything. So far, the car feels solidly built. Doors close with a thud. No signs of rattling anywhere. Handling is great, but the ride suffers a little. It's very much a sports car ride. Lack of navigation option bugged me, because they have it in Japan and in Europe. Not a deal breaker, but it would've been nice.
SUBARU GT LTD LEGACY
This is my third Subaru, and the best. Previously had 1999 Outback, 2002 Outback and now '05 GT Limited Legacy. This is by far the most fun to drive car I have owned. I have had quite a few people ask me about my car, and highly recommend it.
Subaru reveiw
You get a lot for your money and you feel the safety in your vehicle
Never had any problems with this car
Never had any problems with this car even with driving it across the country a few times. This being my second Subaru and its performance in the snow and winter conditions is everything I've expected.
5 time owner ultimately disappointed
Long time Subaru owner- this 05' Legacy GT-bought new, had for 4.5 yrs & sad; by far a let down, poor quality of electronics & mechanically. So far w/ just 60k miles I have replaced CV half shaft, Power steering pump, stereo, ac unit, main window switch, seat belt unit, tires x2, brakes, the lights by the shifter stopped being lit at 20k & now the power steering is going again & its running warm. She has shifted hard coming out of 1st, it feels like I'm being rear-ended =( windshield rattled- dealership fixed. She was well maintained, not ran hard at all. Just a total let down and a reminder never to buy after the release of a new redesign wait a couple years until they get the kinks out.
Lotta Fun
This is the most fun car to drive that I've ever owned. The pick-up is just unbelievable, and the sport shift is the best of both worlds. The interior can't compare to the Acura TL, but I probably saved myself over $5,000 so who cares? Just test drive this Legacy, and you'll want to take it home. Check it out.
Great so far!
I have been driving the 2.5i Limited AWD Sedan for about two weeks now, and I am quite happy. Very smooth drive. Power is adequate enough for me to merge quickly into any traffic - uphill too. Great value for the buck - was able to get $1700 below invoice (due to $1500 manufacturer incentive). Limited version offers a great interior that is similar to a Lexus that I once drove. No regrets at all so far.
Worth the wait.....
Waited a year for this since I heard it was the 2004 car of the year in Japan. Always liked Subaru but didn't buy one because of the lack of power (and a WRX is too small for me). Does everything well. Steering feel and response is very similar to a BMX530i I drove last year. Smooth, but firm ride, very good handling, feels like a RWD car. Love the interior, very comfortable and classy. Traded in a 2002 V-6 Altima for this car and have not regretted it one bit. Subaru has totally outclassed Nissan. Amazing...
never buy one again
I bought my 2005 subaru legacy gt new. This was my first time ever buying a new car. The turbo blew in March "09", they fixed it after proving I proporaly maintained it. Dec. 09 it went again. They replaced it went to test drive it and the timing jumped and blew my cam shaft and valves, they also found metal in the oil pan from the turbo. Now I am getting a hard time for proper replacement, instead of replacing the parts new (short block and the damage from poor mechanic installation) they want to put a used motor with more mileage and no history of how well it has been taken care of. I would never buy another subaru or recommend one to anyone.
Love my car
I live in Northern NY, snow covered curvy, mountainous roads. I love the way the car handles and brakes.
WRX STi for the Luxury Set
I waited three weeks to be able to test drive my '05 Legacy GT Ltd. and it was absoultelym worth it. I had compared this car to the Acura TSX, Audi A4 and BMW 325xi. The Legacy is by far the most sporting of the bunch. Power delivery is typical of a turbocharged car, but there is enough grunt from the 2.5 off-boost to keep it from being an annoyance. the handling is crisp, yet it doesn't punish you over rough surfaces. The interior is first rate, and the only complaints there are the stereo which sounds a little dull, and the cupholder which places large drinks in the path of the driver's elbox when shifting into 2nd, 4th or reverse. Great job Subaru!

True sport wagon
Had the car for 5 weeks now. No problems yet. Very powerful. Fun to drive. Has a great feel to it. Only getting around 18 mpg around town, but that's because it's hard not to put your foot in it and feel that turbo rush. Very quiet and smooth ride. Handles very well and has a comfortable ride. Build quality is very nice, especially on the inside.
<Insert Cheesy Grin Here>
It's hard to wipe the smile off your face while driving the 5 speed manual GT Ltd sedan. Subaru nailed this one- a comfortable interior and a HOOT to drive. My wife likes the dual climate control and heated leather seats with electric adjustment. I like the performance of the intercooled turbocharged 2.5L boxer engine. This car is rock-solid at autobahn speeds. Freeway on-ramps are easy- no more worries about people running you over. Passing- no problem either- but it really performs on the twisty two lane roads. Go ahead and open it up- but just make sure you burn off your speed before the turn and then accelerate through the turn. You'll see that cheesy grin in the rear-view mirror!
The ultimate sleeper?
It looks like a practical family station wagon. It hauls like one, too. But it's as much fun to drive as my Miata was: goes like stink, handles like a German sports sedan, plus tons of safety features and all wheel drive. Very nice interior, best styling Subaru has ever done, quiet, comfortable and a blast to drive. Great highway cruiser, nimble on twisting roads, doesn't even notice wet, slick roads.
A fun, fast car
I shopped Acura TL & TSX, as well as BMW 325xi, and got the Subaru! More power than any of them, handles 95% as well as the BMW, and is a lot of fun to drive. Also, Subaru will deal a bit, while the other ones wouldn't (and the '05 TSX's weren't even available at all). Mileage isn't the greatest, but not surprising with all of the power this vehicle has. Very smooth, quiet.
Lovely Wagon
Have been driving it for about 3 months now and LOVE everything about it. I average about 23mpg combined with a 5spd and i think that is just fine for a vehicle so fun to drive. Also the build quality is very nice like an audi or bmw ( both of whose entry offerings are smoked by this ). would certainly recommend it.
What An Automobile
Excellent automobile. The Subaru designers really did their homework. Smooth & fast acceleration, quiet comfortable ride, excellent handling, good road hugging qualities, stealth like appearance. The interior has the most customer friendly and easiest to use layout I have ever seen. The red interior lighting is like a fighter jet and the quality of materials is superb. Turns a lot of heads, and very few people know that a 250 hp 4 cylinder turbo lurks underneath the hood. This is my 3rd Subaru and by far the best one.
love my lgt
This hands down is the best car I`ve ever had. I love they design of the car it is really aggressive. It definitely turns heads by its look.
Unbelievable car
As an American muscle car owner, I was hesitant to purchase a foreign car. This car is absolutely unbelievable. The 2.5l Turbo has enough power to get down the road in style and still haul the kids and/or clients in comfort. My other car, a Chevrolet Corvette, doesn't mind sharing the garage with this little turbocharged piece of heaven.
1/2 luxury + 1/2 wrx sti = Legacy Gt
Take the luxury car with its massive amounts of comfort and gobs of performance from the wrx sti, subaru managed to create the awsome Legacy. This car has tons of performance and barely any turbo lag. It blows away the wrx in performance even in the auto version, which I love the most with its sport shift feature. No road noise except for the roll of the awsome 17" wheels and that was min. as well. I live in the snow and this baby can do it all. This thing can be thrown anyware and remain amazingly stable under any type of stress and even with my lead foot gets 22.8 mpg!
Good fun, but turbo lag
This is my fifth Subaru, including a manual WRX wagon and manual WRX sedan. I have also owned two V8 Mustangs and a couple of BMWs. ONCE IT IS MOVING a turbo Subie is great fun! From a stoplight, unless you beat it, turbo lag is still a problem. My 10 year old V10 Dodge Pickup is faster for the first 50 to 100 yards. Responsive, stable AWD handling; good feedback; stock Bridgestones average in dry - poor on dirt and snow. I average 23 to 24 mpg in mixed driving using premium fuel. Manual shift mode is entertaining and steering wheel controls are convenient and provide flexibility.
Excellent value family hauler
At one month we are very pleased with car after taking it on a couple extended trips. The handling is better than I expected on windy roads-far, far better than the Camry and Accord. Comfort is good, but the climate control acts bizarre and we often end up controlling it manually. The car feels solid and substantial, more like a European than Japanese maker. Cruise control has some strange ticks-jerky when going downhill, full throttle when accelerating. If you want blazing speed, go for the GT, but the base engine is adequate for brisk highway merges. The sunroof is huge and a treat for back seat passengers. Disappointing economy-27mpg is best so far even with all highway driving.
Excellent buy!
I've driven the G35x, G35 coupe, BMW 3-series, Pontiac Grand Prix, Audi A4 and A6, and Volvo S40 and S60, and bang for buck, the Subaru was the best deal. It's also a blast to drive, the interior is actually more refined than some of the luxury cars, and the performance is nice.
I Recommend It!
I have 16,000 miles on my GT Ltd now, and it still puts a grin on my face everytime I drive it. I was going to get a WRX, but I wanted the 5EAT option and comfort this car offered (rough commute). I wanted the sportiness and was willing to trade-off gas mileage.
Subaru Legacy GT
An exceptionally designed car that is a vast improvement over its predecessor. The turbo-charged version gives it a great fun to drive quotient, and its handling is absolutely superb for a family sedan.
Wow, This Subie is HOT!!
My previous vehicle was a Buick Regal GS which was very fast on it's own. This Subie is unbelievably fast. Not only is there more than enough power when accelerating from a red light but there is reserve power at 70mph on the freeway to make many other sport car drivers feel a little embarrassed. Oh well, poor them.
Terrific Value for Luxury Sedan
This is our fourth Subaru. We purchased this one for its new design, especially the interior and its many appointments and options. Subaru has always had an unbeatable AWD system, and this one is no different. I've never felt more comfortable driving in poor weather conditions than in this car. Our only complaint would be the lower powered motor makes the transmission jump down too frequently. But using "sport shift" takes care of that. Audio system is excellent, but we'd love to be able to plug in our iPods!
Worth the wait.....
I've waited a year for this car since I heard it was the 2003/2004 car of the year in Japan. Always liked Subaru but didn't buy one because of the lack of power (and a WRX is too small for me). This car is a steal. Does everything well (while not great). I can't think of another car in this price range that does everything this car can do. Amazing...
legacy gt ltd
Love this car. Great performance. Turbo lag is minimal. I compared the GT to Infiniti G35 and I liked the interior of the GT better. More clean. You cannot find another car equipped as well as the Ltd. for the money. Also, surprisingly smooth ride, for a sports sedan. I would like to see a 6 speed manual.
SWEET RIDE - FAST AND FURIOUS LEGACY GT
This car is so fun to drive, you'll find any excuse to get out of the house. I have always hated winter driving, but I have never had so much fun as I have had this last month driving in terrible winter conditions. This car is a serious machine. Get rid of the lousy stock all-seasons and you're set for high performance. I have read articles comparing it to the Acura TSX. I test drove both cars, but there was no comparison. The TSX has a nice interior, but the Legacy... smiles ear to ear every time I got out of it. FYI - on the 5 speed manual, there is zero turbo lag. Makes the even the WRX seem sluggish off the line
Subaru is for You
Love the car. A little sluggish on the upper Colorado mountain roads but except for that the car drives great. Plenty of leg room. Comfortable seats. Love all the ammenities that come standard. Car has great handling capability and is very quiet inside.
fast, fun, and a winter ride
I bought my Subie for the AWD system because i live in Pittsburgh and winter driving can be tough sometimes. Thanks Subaru for a great all around ride that drives great in the snow; so far an 8 inch storm hit the area and I drove everywhere a slip here and there but never got close to stopping - always going forward.
It gets better...
Being a 4 time Subaru owner I have come to expect reliability and value. This car gives you a bonus by throwing in performance. For a few hundred more Cobb Tuning offers a solution to address some lagging and improve boost ... all without getting your hands dirty. While you're at it, don't forget a K&N stock replacement filter. The performance you will experience will once again justify your decision to purchase this car. Where else will you find an AWD sedan that is under $30K, stays out of the shop, but can humble the G35x, 330xi, and A4? I am thankful Subaru has stepped up and shown themselves as a company that can offer it all.
varoom!!!!!!!!!!
just awesome the car is unbelievably fun to drive. I've tried to have wheelspin and can't get the car to break loose.
A Blast to Drive
This car is a blast to drive and if you aren't careful a speeding ticket. Short throw shifter is really smooth and fun to drive. Interior with the taupe leather seats is very nicely done. Stereo is pretty good if you get the subwoofer. You can usually take corners at twice the posted speed without any squealing of tires and it feels like you are on an amusement park ride. Just as much fun to drive as a BMW 330Xi, has more room, better acceleration, and is $10K less.
almost perfect
Fun, fun, fun. Great acceleration, precise steering, all wheel drive, comfortable seats, neat interior design - very intuitively laid out. Needs a couple of more speakers in the back, but not bad.
Older Guys GTi
So after test driving what I thought I wanted ( the VeeDub R32 and Subee WRX STi) , I decided it just wasn't a good value unless I just wanted to overtake everyone at the lights. I always liked the creature comforts in my GTi Vr6 which wasn't offered in the WRX's. The Legacy GT Limited is a GTi for grown ups. Fun to drive, comfortable plus AWD. So much more car for less.
