I recently bought a 2020 Impreza Sport hatchback with manual transmission. Compared to my 2017 base model Impreza, this one is MUCH nicer. I notice road and wind noise is significantly quieter, and the sound of the boxer engine is softer as well, so Subaru must have added more insulation to the car to make it quieter. My wife and I also love the heated front seats. My old Impreza took forever to warm up in the winter, and now I am able to get warm within 2 minutes of getting into the car. The heated mirrors are nice to have in winter as well. The amount of and ease-of-use of the technology is great. Since I opted for the manual transmission, I don’t have the EyeSight safety features, but the 8-inch LCD screen is great and comes with STARLINK as well as lots of info about the performance of the car (gas mileage, oil temp, tire pressure, etc). And the backup cam is my favorite of any car I’ve ever driven. Also, the sport cloth is a classy and unique touch, as are the 18-inch alloy wheels. I don’t mind that the gas mileage doesn’t compare to rival car brands because I like having all-wheel drive all the time. If you’re comfortable with manual transmission, I’d recommend going with it over the more popular CVT transmission because acceleration feels sportier and less sluggish than the CVT. If you want a sporty, fun car with all-wheel drive, I’d definitely recommend this car.

Excellent car, could use a bit more power

Have the base model with CVT. Handling and stability is excellent. No torque steer, even in the wet, due to symmetrical AWD, outstanding traction in wet and snowy conditions. Live in Minnesota, so AWD is primary reason for getting the car. Plenty of room inside, (got the 5 door so can fold down rear seats), excellent for highway cruising with adaptive cruise, and is quiet for the class. Relatively small dimensions and nimble handling make it also very good for city driving. Now to the negatives that almost every road tester beats on the car for. First, interior quality. Often is criticized, but is adequate IMO. Easy to use entertainment system, materials are fine for the class. Seats could be a bit better, but I once did 800 miles in one day, mostly in heavy rain, without undue discomfort, and felt totally confident of traction. Finally, engine performance. Roundly criticized by almost every tester, but it more than adequate, IMO. Fuel economy is also very good considering AWD is active all the time. Currently am averaging 32 mpg in mixed, mostly freeway driving, with heavy use of the A/C. Average in mid 20s in winter, with balance more toward stop and go driving. Feels plenty quick in city driving, can cruise 80 mph all day on the interstate(have the ticket to prove it). Occasionally feels flat in light throttle acceleration at moderate speeds, but other than that is more than adequate. The rest of the car is so outstanding, though, that it is unfortunate that it does not have a bit more power. Supposedly the Forester 2.5 L engine is coming to some Crosstrek models in 2021, so hopefully will eventually filter down to the Impreza.

4 trips to dealer to fix problems

Bought premium version in September 2020. It is November 2020 now. So far 5 trips to the dealer to replace remote engine start module, central console unit (I do not know what it is called), and rear callipers. The radio keeps rebooting itself while driving. The front suspension makes noise that mechanics, so far, cannot replicate. And all of this is in less than 2 months if ownership. So far, the car spent about 16 days at the dealership being fixed. I guess I drew the short straw when I was dealt a car...

I just bought the Impreza after researching and finding it was supposed to be a very reliable car. So far, I am not impressed. The check engine light came on 2 weeks ago. Dealer ran a test and said nothing showed up so they sent me on my way. Now it came back on again. This time they tell me it is the valve assembly which will take 5 days to come in. A brand new car with this few miles should not be having problems. So much for reliability. My first Subaru and probably my last. Unfortunately, I am stuck with this stinker for a few years. Update: After 5 trips to the dealer, Subaru finally fixed the problem and it has not reoccurred. Finally had to contact National Subaru as the local dealer where I bought the car could have cared less about fixing the problem. Decades of buying new cars and this is a first for me. A problem with a brand new car in the first 2 months (I had not even made the first payment when the check engine light first came on). Horrendous service from the dealer where I bought the car. A year later I am still astounded by the utter lack of customer care. This was my first Subaru and it is probably my last. Love the car’s performance, just despise the local dealer service.

Our Subaru Impreza Premium Model looks great (Crystal White) and performs nicely. The car holds the road well, gives a very comfortable ride for its modest size, and accelerates well. No problem merging into highway traffic at 65 mph. Very impressed with the car's performance and suspension.

I just purchased this car new 3 weeks ago. The fuel mileage I am getting is 28-30 mpg per tank of fuel. This is before it's even broken in and I am dogging it hard. I always do with a new car as it is better for it. Good luck. Very satisfied customer here.

Bought my car in Sept. 2020. Second Subaru I’ve owned. My only complaint so far is that I should have just got a Crosstrek. I find that the car has no major concerns. The car could use a turbo engine option as that would add to the overall appeal of the Impreza line. I will always buy Subaru but next time, I’ll buy for space such as an Ascent or Outback. UPDATE 2: Still in love with this car. Originally I talked about space constraints. However, I have the hatch version and overall, I’m happy with the space. After recently driving a different type of vehicle, I have come to terms with knowing I made the right choice. Highly recommend this car for anyone who wants a car that works, make sense with the layout, and has the features to take you into the next 5-10 years of vehicle feature lineups.

Had them check this problem at least 6 times. Go to close the drivers window and it would go three quarters of the way up and go back down again. Sometimes I had to try closing it 5 times before it would stay up. Last time they replaced the track with a new improved track. Got to say it lasted at least 6 months. I will never own another Subaru

Rev hang and problems accelerating

I own a 2008 Subaru Impreza wagon with standard transmission, always liked the car. Decided to buy a 2020 since the 08 is getting tired. Bad move, first of all whoever designed the interior did not design it shifting in mind. The cover on the console storage bin gets in the way and makes it very uncomfortable to maneuver the shift lever. Then there's the horrific rev hang which keeps your RPMs up there when you push in the clutch to shift. It makes it very difficult to shift smoothly. I took it back to the dealership to see if they could do something to fix it and they said no that's the way the computer is programmed. Not sure what I'm going to do with this thing, whether I'll keep it or trade it on something else but with the rev hang and trying to maneuver the shifter around the console lid it's a very unpleasant driving experience that's for sure. For now I'm driving the 08 mostly and I'm glad I didn't get rid of it. **Updating my original review here, in warm weather my 2020 Impreza has an intermittent problem where it does not want to take the gas between 2000 and 3000 RPMs. (Since I bought the car in winter it was a while before this first happened) When it does happen, regardless of how much or how little gas you give it the car just just limps along and will not accelerate. It actually creates a dangerous situation when trying to merge on the highway or making a left turn with oncoming traffic. It's kind of unnerving because you never know when the car will randomly decide that it doesn't want to accelerate. Doing online searches I see that I'm not the only one with this problem. The dealership finds nothing wrong with the car. Although the extent of what they can do is to just look for codes. The car's computer believes it's driving fine. Subaru of America did take an interest but in the end said that until the dealership can find something wrong with the car there's nothing they can do.

I had an Impreza Premium first. It didn't have much bells or whistles. The one issue I had with this car was the AC was not working. I took it in 3 times; 3 times they said they fixed it; they didn't. I went to a different dealership and returned the lease and picked up a Sport. It was like night and day. Subaru needs to keep up their QC/QA on each model, not just the upper ones. I give 4 stars and not five because of the experience. I give 5 stars to the car I have now. Update. Not much to say. I have been working from home. Not much driving except to grocery store and household shopping. No road trips. Can't say much.

The car has a vertical screen that looks good in photos but is really cheap and poorly made, both in terms of software and hardware. CarPlay would make it better but it regularly disconnects not matter what I do. I'd rather just an aftermarket double-din unit with a bigger CarPlay screen than a giant vertical screen that uses 40% for CarPlay, which is smaller than the external one would be.

We looked at all of our choices ( Ford, GM , Honda, Mazda, Hyundai and Subaru). The one reason we decided on a Subaru Impreza was our Salesman. Jim Sapienza made the difference!!! He listened to all of our needs and concerns. We never felt any pressure. We were convinced he was their to help us ....not himself. This was our first Subaru and I can tell you that it will not be our last because of Jim.

5 door hatchback or crossover?

I had one of these for a week from the dealer. This vehicle 5 door hatch back should be labeled a crossover. It rides like a an Outback not an Impreza hatch. This has a very mushy suspension and steering is very vague. Not like an Impreza sedan. When I think of a sports car hatch back I think of Volkswagen GTI hatch or Mazda 3 hatch. These cars are like little go carts. Stiff suspension and steering. I would never buy this Impreza. I forgot to say the motor is way underpowered just like the Outback. What like 180hp? So it gets 30 mph its 4 cylinder labors on acceleration. Very noisy too.
