2018 Forester Black Edition
18 Forester Black edition. car was making high pitch whining sound when I put the fan or AC on. Front driver window vibrates when I put the window down or up. Jan 27 2020 brought it to the dealership. I was told it’s blown motor. It will be repair under warranty. Window needs to be lubricated.

Good until you hit 100k
Great little car….until it hit 100,000 Miles. I bought it new. Always serviced it at the dealer. Then things went bad. Two wheel bearings, two air conditioning pumps, two catalytic converters. No joke it went in twos. And not under warranty.

Subaru newbie
All the electronics are a learning process over and above what the sales person teaches.
Subaru Forester is exactly what I was looking for
I was replacing a car because of difficulty getting in and out. The Forester has excellent ease of access... large door and just the right height. I have only had the car 3 weeks so I cannot speak to reliability, but comfort, safety, and technology are excellent. My only criticism is that the extra usb and access ports are in a very awkward place inside the seat divider storage.... almost impossible to get to easily. Other than that, I love everything about the car. 1 year later: Still love the car. Love that it has a cd player (almost impossible to find anymore even though a LOT of people play audiobooks). Runs well, very comfortable, very very easy to fold down rear seats, love the safety features. Only two complaints and they are pretty minor: 1) fueling is inconvenient in that you need to pull a lever next to the drivers seat and then unscrew the gas cap. My old Escape did away with that 6 years ago. 2) Not much storage space in front. (and I still dislike the location of the extra ports but can live with it)

Top of the line - Forester XT Touring
This is my fourth Subaru vehicle. I have owned one Impreza and two Legacy's prior to this Forester. This was the last model to get the Turbocharger, so I didn't want to miss out; However, I didn't need a car. I had a 2017 Legacy Sport that was doing just fine, so this was totally an impulse purchase. While I truly do love this car, ultimately, I do regret signing the lease. This car is just too expensive for what it is. Between the nearly $40,000 price tag and the (constant) need to fill it up with premium gasoline, this thing is like driving around an overpriced european luxury car. Albeit super fun (and dangerously fast), it is not worth the monthly payments. I may even go on to argue that this vehicle is too fast for an SUV. I gets up and goes I mean lickety split and that can be kind of dangerous for a vehicle that sits this high up. Believe it or not, my car insurance actually went down when I switched it over. Most of my driving is City (large metropolitan area), so that makes the mileage even worse. The space is great on the inside and the interior is very nice overall. Again, it is a fun car to drive and the reliability can not be matched, I just think it's a bit too much (both power and cost) for a "non-luxury" sport utility vehicle.

Best suv out there for the money
I bought a 2018 CPO Premium. Added seat covers all around. Living in FL like to camp and fish. I could not tolerate the radio. Replaced it with a Pioneer so now have car play with Idata link. Gives details of engine stats. Gas mileage is great. City around 24. Hwy around 34. Quiet car. Plenty of room and storage.

We just LOVE our Subaru!
We have owned 4 Subarus throughout the years and this is hands down the MOST FUN to drive! We just love our Forester XT. Going up to the mountains and driving up the passes have been so fun with the turbo. You do not have to sacrifice decent gas mileage to have the extra "guts" either. We used to have an Impreza which I felt was extremely under powered and rather "cheap" feeling inside, but the Forester definitely has the extra comfort features and better quality materials. I especially love the leather trim on the seats and the steering wheel. I really enjoy the over-sized sunroof in the summer time, too. If you want all of the fun of driving a WRX rally car but need an SUV that will fit the family's needs AND the dog, this is the car for you.

Super safe but super uncomfortable
I bought a Limited 10 months ago. I needed decent storage and good gas mileage, as I commute long distances and we take frequent road trips. Although the car performed well and I felt safe, my entire family complains about how uncomfortable the seats are. Also, the front console (particularly around the gear shift) is chintzy and ugly. My previous car had been a Buick Enclave, which had cushy seats and lots of luxury because it is designed for the older crowd (of which I'm not part). I guess I got spoiled because the Forester felt too cheap and basic inside for me. The CVT engine made getting going after a stop sign very jerky. The sound system is great, but the navigation is worthless. One of the big shockers for me was when the windshield got hit by a rock in the first two months and the whole windshield cracked. We had to replace it. I've been driving for 35 years and never had a rock cause that kind of damage. It wasn't even a large rock. I'm not the type of person who trades in brand new cars after less than a year of ownership, but this time I'm going to have to make an exception.

Subaru needs to be investigated
Don’t buy a Subaru! These cars are disastrous! Took the car in for service and it turned out that they needed to change the CVT! After 4 attempts/replacement the car still isn’t fixed! On the 4th replacement the car started to give me electrical problems, severe gas smell, I can’t lock the car as the horn goes off when I do! The trunk only opens half way! The passenger window doesn’t open! The radio doesn’t work! They should be investigated because it’s a lie that their cars have a 98% reliability score! I’d be more than happy to send a video if anyone doesn’t believe me! As soon as I tell people about my problems they ask me if it’s a WRX well I guess those have issues too but my junk is a Forester! I bought the car thinking that Toyota is part owner! Traded in my perfect Toyota Camry because I wanted something a little higher! Stay away from Subaru! Ohh my MPG’s dropped from 33-34 to 22-23 all in a matter of 3 years! It’s a 2018 Subaru Forester with 35-36k miles! There should be a way to investigate them because they are lying about the reliability of their junks!

A great combination of features
My Forester Premium has a 6 speed gearbox which helps preserve an active connection to the driver. This was the last year for the choice of a manual transmission. I was not at all interested in a car with a CVT which is the only other transmission choice. The cabin has impressive spaciousness. The large windows and sunroof allow for great visibility and natural light. Informatics are good. AC and heater setting are managed with large simple analogue dials. This design is a huge advantage over touch screen management. Plastic surfaces are hard and a bit cheap feeling but add to a favorable “no nonsense” industrial feel to the car. With a roof rack , large interior cargo compartment and hitch receiver in place, it is a very accommodating hauler of practically anything. It is truly a versatile “Swiss Army” knife of a car.

Driveability and reliability are disappointing
Cvt makes it feel like you're driving a boat: slow response and always seems to be in the wrong ratio, handling feels top heavy and unbalanced, it has very little power when the cvt does decide to put it down and has basically zero towing capacity. With factory alignment it ate through tires, spare tire didn't hold air, burns a little oil after just 5 years, ac compressor completely went out ($1000+ job) at <70k miles, infotainment screen is slow and randomly glitches, bluetooth connects only when you don't want it to, seats are not durable, both front lower control arm bushings were bad from the factory, under warranty they installed new ones that were also bad, the cvt failed and needed to be rebuilt (thankfully while still under warranty) at around 35k miles and it feels like it is slipping again, oil changes are needed more often than my other vehicles, brakes appear undersized and rotors have warped from heat more than once. Eyesight system works but sometimes it'll beep for lane departure when you're perfectly centered or even on roads with no lines, sometimes it brakes for things I am nowhere near hitting, as soon as the windshield fogs up even slightly it disables itself To my disappointment it is not very capable offroad, it has all sorts of assists and electronics but still cannot make up for the fact that it has the cvt and is not a true 4x4. Interior is cheap and plasticy, paddle shifters feel horrible, seats are kind of hard, steering wheel is a little slippery even when clean, heated seats are nice until they get too hot and you have to turn it off, moonroof is pretty nice. Do yourself a favor and buy a Toyota or even a used Porsche SUV for the same price.

Air Conditioner Issue
It starts giving AC issues ,when it drive in a hot day when outside temperature around 32C AC stop working. Then it gives hot air,it may be like that for a while and fix it self .Otherwise need to switch off AC for 3-4 minutes then start working
Loving the Forester
Only drove a few times so far. I did heavy research before buying since we will have this vehicle for rest of my life! So far it is great and the Touring is beautiful. For us older folks, getting in and out is so much better than my Sedan. The doors are heavy and I will gain muscle, which is good.

Update: Learn from A Costly Mistake
I am not sure how many other people are experiencing issues with the liftgate, but my car is a bit of a lemon in this regard. The hatch always works well with either the key FOB or the dash mounted control. The issue is the control button on the gate itself. I have taken the car back to the dealer FOUR times already. The button has been replaced once and the gate has been 'reset' once. And it continues to malfunction. Subaru isn't the only manufacturer to struggle with it's own products, but this is a frustrating experience. My 2015 RAV4 gate works perfectly every time. Sad to say, if this continues and Subaru refuses to do anything for me, I will be unloading what as an expensive vehicle at the end of the 3 yr warranty period. I have never had this experience with the Honda & Toyota products I have owned. UPDATED: after 4 attempts, the lone dealer did find a fix. I wasted a LOT of time on this car. Recently, the GPS has been locking up. And with the number of recall issues with Subaru products lately, I had to wait over a MONTH to get my car in. Never, never buy a car from a one-dealer brand in your town. Suffice it to say, when people choose to ask if I'd buy again, I say no and refer them to the local Honda and Toyota dealers. The maintenance costs are the highest of any car I have owned. After the 3 year warranty term, this should be a good value for trade in or private resale, though. Updated: since the rear door debacle, the car has largely been reliable mechanically. One notable issue is the GPS system. It is programmed to alert you that your highway exit is coming up when you're practically on top of the exit - a very poor design. And the GPS also sends us on wide goose chases sometimes, suggesting biazarre direction changes. One last point is the transmission delay time: when you back up and then place the car in drive, there is a noticeable pause before the tranny engages. The dealer claims this is 'normal'. Another Subaru owner told me that there is also a noticeable pause if you have the bad habit of two-footed driving: if you try two-footed, your car may pause when accelerating, which could create a dangerous situation when crossing in front of oncoming traffic at a light. Be aware of that. Two years into it, the car is performing as expected. No new problems at this point and the lift gate is working all the time. Not sure why it was such a lemon to begin with. No complaints, with just a few months to the end of the 3 yr warranty period. Although the GPS unit is showing signs of trouble now. Mechanically there are no issues...COVID mileage has been pretty low.

Near perfect SUV
We bought this Forester used as a certified vehicle from a Subaru dealership. We would have preferred a new vehicle but there are currently few new vehicles on the lots and we needed a replacement vehicle for my wife's 15 year old Impreza which blew a head gasket. This Forester lives up to expectations as a well designed vehicle that lives up to the "sport" and "utility" designation. It has car like handling, great visibility with large windows, and a large cargo space. The Touring version adds some nice features like leather seats and an excellent sound system that we don't normally opt for in a new car but which are nice to have. It is an upgrade from the old Impreza and on par with our 2020 Subaru Outback. This is the best all around Subaru model to have if you are a Subaru fan who wants a versatile vehicle.

Strong safety ratings proven in a car crash
Take good care of your new Subaru and it also might save your life in an unforeseen car crash
HIGHLY OVERRATED !
At 20,000 miles air conditioner crapped out , needed new condenser. At 27,000 miles Gas mileage suddenly dropped from 28 -30 MPG city down to 22 MPG city in addition the dealer I bought it from as a new car overlooked several items that should have been checked . And had to be redone ! I Would give this vehicle 3 stars.

Oh my aching leg...
I love my 2018 Forester except for one MAJOR problem....driving long distances. Let me start from the beginning. I am newly retired but prior to that I have driven long distances to work. The greatest being 50 miles one way. The car that I had prior to my Forester was a Suzuki SX4 small SUV. I drove this car to my new home which was a 5 1/2 hour drive a few times, to and from work (the 50 miles) for 2 years and NEVER had problem. Now, I rarely drive long distance except to visit friends and family. Here's the major problem, after about 1/2 hour of driving, the back of my right leg above the knee starts to throb. After about 1 hour the pain is so severe if I am not on cruise control, I need to stop and walk around to ease the pain. I have no idea why this happening. I have tried changing the height of the seat which did not work. I did buy one of those large purple seat cushions which helps a little but it did not eliminate the pain. The seats of the Forester are shorter in the seat. Maybe this is the problem.

New Subaru Forester
Very comfortable car, performs quite well. Based upon friends & neighbors who own them, Subaru Foresters & Outbacks are extremely reliable, great in snow & ice. We only have 400 miles, but very confident reputation is valid. Looking forwward to trying the Forester in the mountains this winter.

Pos
Purchased a 2018 Touring model with 14K miles in 2019. Loved it until front end vibrated at speeds of 65 mph. Ends up there’s an issue with bushings in control arm. Tucson Subaru charged iver $1K to fix???? Really. Reviews online shows it should be much cheaper. They charged $640 for two hours of labor not including parts. Amazing. They say this is common in a Forester with $36K miles.
Forester 2
This is my second Forester and I am equally satisfied with this one. I had my first (2009) Forester for 10 years and was convinced to stick with it based on it's performance and especially it's ability to handle our Northeast winter weather. Hoping for another 10 years of "love".

2018 forester was a great choice!
Have owned 4 other subarus. Currently own 08 impreza 2.5i adn a 05 outback 3.0R LLbean with the newest addition being the 18 forester in pearl white. Brought it in September, out the door for 24,000.00 . Probably could have gotten another 1000 off but for it having alloys, all weather mats, rack, bumper guards, splash guards... I feel its a fair price. Anyway, absolutely love the car. Has a fantastic ride, sits high, not a blind spot in the car and its got plenty of pep. I didnt want the 19 since its a first year car and I would not have gotten as good a deal on it.

New to Subaru
Having driven Honda's for many years, & deciding it was time to give up my Honda Pilot of 13 years, & decided to downsize, I chose a Subaru because of its safety features and realiability. I also ski in the winter, & weather & road conditions in our area can be pretty tricky at times, but with the all wheel drive I hope to get great traction. My lease specialist (Brad Lunar) was very thorough throughout the entire process and made me feel comfortable with his expertise.

Great long life
At year three, with the proper maintenance, my Forester is running as if it was still fresh from the showroom. Yes, being a dark gey model it does collect minor, very visible, scratches easily but mechanically it is in fantastic shape. There was one issue with the entertainment system about a year after we purchased the car but that was corrected by reinstalling the software.

Outback to Forester
Traded in my beloved 2004 Outback for a 2018 Forester. The Forester's seat high and Eyesight safety features have me hooked but very unhappy with Navigation system, totally worthless in my opinion and very disappointed in uncomfortable drivers seat and overall ride. Thought it was due to my age and arthritis but met a much younger sales rep at the nail salon who has this as a company car and she said by days end she's in tears. For safety sale I'd buy again
Adequate ride quality

Does not live up to subaru expectations!
Only at 47000m, ac does not work( never worked well and already replaced condenser ), key stuck in ignition issues , manifold cracked, tie rods cracked etc. some covered under warranty. Bought this after accident so I'd have a vehicle I wouldn't have to worry about; major mistake!!
Love it!
Owned for one year. Better mileage than listed - we typically get 35 mpg. The clearance is much better than most in this category - we live on a gravel road so this was a major selling feature. Very comfortable seats. Good purchase.

All weather SUV
Easy to drive, peppy, cockpit open and airy. Spacious for people, pets and cargo. Average mpg is 25 for my local driving and getting 33/34 hwy. During my first winter, the X ICE mode proved a lifesaving benefit and kept me safe on ice and snow. The Asymmetrical AWD. system is seamless. while handling is safe and secure.I would definitely recommend this vehicle and would buy one again! My daughter and her kids enjoy the safe environment that the Forrester provides. My daughter enjoys driving it now. I help her keep up with the required maintenance for more years of Suburu ownership.

Love it!!
I love my Forester! The interior room and MPG are amazing, I regularly get 34+ on short highway trips. Interior quality is good for the money and the panoramic sunroof is huge and opens up all the way!! I’ve owned the car for over 2 years now and have only done regular maintenance for those 28k miles. It doesn’t handle like a sports car, but the AWD is great in all weather conditions and makes cornering a little fun. It has a very smooth ride and the engine feels more powerful than most cars in the class (except the cx-5) while still getting awesome gas mileage. My sister and dad both traded in their cars for the new generation Forester after hearing how much I love mine and they’re both happy with theirs as well. I traded a 2008 BMW 335xi coupe for my Forester because the the repair bills were getting out of hand with the BMW. I’ve been very happy with my decision and would buy this car again without hesitation.

A present everyday!
We had a 2009 Forrester and replaced it with a new 2018 Forrester. Both autos run like a top! Turn the key and off you go. If you want a SUV with great dependability, good gas mileage and fun to drive....the Subaru Forrester is for you. You aren’t running to the repair shop every month and are thankful for the ingenuity of the many employees that designed it. The cargo space is adequate for all our needs. It carries a variety of objects from groceries to construction supplies and even a mobile scooter. We absolutely love these vehicles and wouldn’t consider anything else.

Nav system totally useless
My 2018 Forrester - Touring has a Nav system which is worthless. Had hi-tech friends look and they agree. I've been renting cars for travel for well over 10 years and have never encounter such a junk Nav system. I have to cart around my iPad. Many problems as it you cannot enter an address after it does the auto-fill for another even where you are right there - I tried. Constantly says "turn before the gas station" when there is no gas station and on and on. Buying this car was a mistake - they are basically the same but the Nav mess makes me wish I'd chosen the about the same competitor. The so-called 4 month free trial for Sirius never kicked in and I drove to dealer ship twice, they reset it but it's gone within an hour - some wifi/GPS/satellite problem i suppose. Anyway, stay away from the 2018's maybe next year better. There are a lot of these identical complaints on other websites.

Foresters are Overrated
Well-meaning family members convinced me that this was the perfect car for me. Wrong. Only thing I really like about it is that it fits in my garage. Maybe I am going through adjustment after driving big SUVs for years but this car seems unsubstantial and skittery. I do not feel that safe in it. A lot of picky little issues too like no ashtray; supposed to be white but is dingy ivory color; no HVAC vents in back seat area; no door lock on passenger front door; takes forever to change anything like setting the clock; passenger seat is manual; etc., etc., etc. I guess the old saying that you get what you pay for is true. No more cheap cars for me.
