Used 2014 Subaru Forester Consumer Reviews
Great Model Year, Great Car
Bought a used 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i Limited from Lithia Reno Subaru in Reno, NV. My wife and I drove all the way from the Bay Area to snatch it up, and the ride was well worth it! The car is fantastic, everything you could want from a Forester and then some...the snowy ride through Tahoe on I-80 was cake compared to our experience with the small rental we drove up to the dealership; on the other end of the spectrum, a winding drive through Death Valley was also met without issue. Why the 2014 Forester? This is the first model year with CVT, which greatly increases fuel economy. And because it is slightly older, you can get more car for your $...we were originally looking at lower-end trims, but are glad we went with the Limited; the leather seats won't stain as easily as the fabric, which was a concern as we usually have coffee in the car and are a bit on the clumsy side. If you find a well-maintained 2014 Forester with reasonable mileage, it should feel as good as new, because it practically is! ***Update October 2016*** 8k miles and a one-way cross-country trip later, the car still drives like new and no apparent problems. Regular maintenance performed per owner's manual, nothing extraordinary. I reiterate my original opinion that this make and model year is a fantastic option for anyone looking for an AWD small SUV or the like.

LOVE MY SUBARU
I've had my 2104 Subaru Forester for 6 months now, over winter. I see there are a few odd complaints about this model. Yeah, it rides a little rough, but-it's not a sedan, it's a mini-truck-hence SUV! It has lots of interior space for cargo and passengers. There are actually too many bells and whistles for my liking, but hey, it's a newer model of vehicle then I'm used to so, I just go with the flow on this. It has plenty of pep for acceleration, and great handling on the road. It was super great in the winter, esp. after I put studded tires on it. The cold weather fuel mileage wasn't so great, but I'll live with that. I don't find that it uses any extra oil, although I am used to checking the oil at almost all refueling, so I'd be likely to catch it before it becomes a problem. I mean, how much does it cost to put in a quart of oil now and then? I've had to do that with almost every other vehicle I've owned, so no biggie. I really, really like my 2014 Subaru Forester.

The worst car I ever owned. A LEMON. Disappointed.
I bought the Subaru Forester because I fell for their advertising of being the safe and dependable car, I was a convert for 2 years. BOY, was that an expensive mistake. Starting with the axles needing replacement before 60K miles, the car fell apart quickly. Transmission valve, air bag module, horn, head gasket and radiator, engine block... not to mention the tires getting worn out very quickly despite alignments and rotations. And every time I was at the dealer I would find new customers complaining about their even newer models. Subaru dealerships were awful and didn't repair the problems but kicked the can down the road. After replacing my head gasket I drove home only to find out my brand new radiator was empty, and they had used aftermarket parts to fix the issue after I took it back the next day. After the head gasket "repair" my engine continued to burn oil so the dealer ran a consumption test and told me it passed. 500 miles after it "passed" the oil light went on and I was told I need an engine block. $6600 After finding out the engine block was bad, I tried finding a mechanic who would fix the issue but only found that no one would take this project on because you are supposed to replace the whole engine, not half at a time. Mechanics were baffled as to why Subaru would only do the head gasket...and then 3 months later try to replace the other half. If you are considering a Subaru Forester, I would advise you to reconsider. I know they are good looking cars, but they have major issues.

Oil Consumption Issues
Our Subaru Forester is having reoccurring oil consumption issues – the oil light comes on well before the manufacture recommended oil change interval. We started our first oil consumption test this past spring, coming into our dealership every 1500 miles for a total of 5 times. The test resulted in limited work on our vehicle. Once the final test came and went we were told there was nothing the dealership could do and we were sent on our way. It’s been a few months and about 3,500 miles since the dealership sent us on our way and the oil light has come on again. So we’ve brought the Forester back to the dealership who is recommending that we start the oil consumption tests over. This is our first Subaru purchase and it’s starting to look like our last because of the amazing inconvenience to my family. It’s difficult for my family to travel to a dealership every 1500 miles to have the oil topped off, and if the dealership/Subaru won’t take steps to fix the root cause we’ll be selling our Forester and moving on to a new brand.

Love me some Subaru
I love the way my Forester handles the road, I feel safe while driving it. I am short and at times struggle seeing over the steering wheel but I can see clearly from all angles when I am in my Forester. I can't wait to trade it in for a new model next year. My salesman was extremely helpful throughout the entire process and I felt I paid a fair price.
