Used 2014 Subaru Forester Consumer Reviews
Subaru Forester disappoints!
We purchased a 2005 new and expected the 2014 to be an evolution of that model...boy were we unpleasantly surprised. They should have called it something else because it drives and behaves in no similar way to the older model. We feel we are driving a totally different make than Subaru and now feel alienated as loyal Subaru customers: The car looks horrible from the dash...video game graphics and angular design is less than perfect. The power tailgate has never operated properly - after two dealer visits, we've given up on it and now we use it manually. It rides like a truck, has little road feel... it has absolutely no driving pleasure whatsoever. I supposed we should have shopped around and spent more time at the dealership to avoid this mistake!

Over 4 years in and not impressed
We initially were looking at the Crosstrek and perhaps the Outback. The dealer mentioned the Forester and we took it for a drive. We quickly forgot about the other two. Test drove Ford, Nissan, Honda too. When I drive the forester MPG- city/hwy 25/32. When my wife drives, which is most of the time, city/hwy 22/29. Overall a little disappointed in the gas mileage perspective, but it does better than our 2009 Camry! Price paid- 28423- Limited, option pack 2, remote start, splash guards, all weather mats. Briggs in Topeka went very smoothly. ***Update after 3 years. Personally I think the driver seat isn't very comfortable. My right knee always has the keys sitting on it- a bit cramped for my 6' height. Road noise is a bit loud. Haven't had any oil problems that I've heard the Forrester is prone to. Gas mileage is underwhelming, especially if you drive 75+ mph as we often do in the midwest. The ride is pretty rough- you feel most of the bumps on the road, but I don't mind that too much. Fantastic in the snow. A recent brake electrical mechanism had to be replaced, my wife had difficulty getting the car out of park due to this part failure. Since we are past the 36,000 mi warranty it was $95, but concerning that we have a problem only 3 years in. Overall it's a good car, but I don't know that it is worth the price we paid. ***pros- great in the snow/wet weather, great visibility from the cabin. Cons- noisey cabin, not very comfortable front seats, firm/rough ride, HD radio goes in and out,

Fun Forester
Three weeks ago I bought a 2.5i Premium PZEV 4dr SUV AWD with 4cyl CVT. So far I have driven this SUV for about 1100 miles and I am very happy with it. Love the comfort of the ride. I like the way it handles the road, pickup, braking and wet weather. Turning radius is great and road handling was excellent in highway. The view from drivers seat is great. So far my mileage is hovering around 25mpg highway and 21mpg in city. I expect it to give 27mpg combined and 32mpg highway as stated by Subaru once I put on more miles. I live in Chicago area and expect it to handle very well in snow. I will write another review after driving my Forester in winter.
Do Not Buy
I am writing this because I read reviews like this for 2 months before I purchased my 2014 Forester XT. Day one the car was delivered with screw in the tire, tire had to be ordered. Week 2 Stress crack in windshield. Long cranks or multiple cranks to start car. Shim was inserted by Subaru. Car now misfires with no solution available. The last time at the Bob Moore Subaru I was told to come pick up my car, because we can't repair it. Subaru wanted me to pay $4500 more to exchange the car for an identical model. Serious problems with this model!!
My favorite of all vehichles
I have owned BMW (325i), Mercedes (C230), VW (Jetta, Convertible Beetle) Dodge Stratus and my college vehicle Chevy Chevette. I was looking at trading in my Mercedes for Lexus but since Lexus was closed, I drove by Subaru (Plano, TX) and thought I would take a look. I work in Electronics and have learned that Japanese take great pride in quality, so I while I had checked out every major car mfg, I was am so glad I walked into the lot. The only one they had left was a blue 2014. I love the sunroof, makes it fun, but with the upgraded wood added, I also feel like driving luxury vehicle. 9 months and I love this vehicle!
