I was trading in a large SUV and wanted something more car like but still have the convenience of an SUV. I test drove the CR-V and RAV4. The Toyota was still truck like, even though the Honda had a nice interior I did not like the way it handled. The Subaru was more fun to drive and I just liked how the AWD is standard. I'm surprised at how well the car drives and how smooth it is going over the highway. I am disappointed on the MPG, but much better than a giant SUV. So far I am very happy with this car. It has some small rattles, but it is also not a $50,000 car. My friend's CR-V also has rattles. I recommend this car highly.

I purchased my forester in April 2010 and I have no regrets. It's the best value for money. My car is loaded with Blue tooth, navigation, heated seats, satellite radio, remote start, auto dimming mirrors, fog lights, moon roof, leather seats, dvd player, cd player, ipod connections and its all wheel drive. Brand new it cost me less than 30,000. I live in new hampshire so I need a car that is great in the snow, rain, mud or dry road. So far the subie is perfect. I strongly recommend fully loading this vehicle if you plan to get it. You wont be able to enjoy all of these comforts in any other high quality new SUV for the price of a Subaru. I road trip in comfort and style. no problem

Got this after owning a 98 model for many good years. Mileage had been good, we break 30 on trips. Like the perforated and heated leather seats, too. Good size for a family of 4 - small outside, big inside. Ours hasn't seen the dealership since we bought it, our salesman says we see him every 7 years, when it's time to buy a new one. I'd like to see them add Direct Injection and maybe the CVT from the Outback. All in all we're happy and would buy the same car again.

I like the subaru forester-had over a year now only getting 24.3mpg highway. I don't like the cup holders or where the seat warmers are placed. Overall, the car is awesome in the winter-drove through 26+ inches of snow up the a 7% grade with no issues. I should have got the outback just because it looks like its a beast!

This is our family's 3rd Subaru. Traded in a 2008 Forester that we loved for its ruggedness, reliability, AWD, and safety but needed more rear leg room as 2nd child is on the way. Got a steal of deal on the transaction and could not be happier with our new 2010 Forester. It's just the right size inside but still has a compact exterior that is easy to maneuver. The interior is well laid out and all body components are tightly built. Yes, we have a couple of rattles hear and there but nothing overly annoying. Be careful of the light grey interior (might get dirty fast). Overall, this is not a particularly luxurious vehicle but is still solid, safe, and very reliable. Can't beat it for value.

My husband and I agree that we like the Forester better now than when we bought it. The road handling is extremely competent and the brakes are incredible. There are no rattles and every door closes solidly. Interior design presents many reconfiguration possibilities for cargo hauling. It is my 42 mile round trip commuter and I look forward to it every day. It was a pleasure to drive in all weather this winter and has such an efficient heating system, I rarely used the heated seats! With this early spring weather, I love the sunroof (as does the dog). The passenger does sit a little low, but with so many adjustments to the driver seat, its impossible not to be comfortable! We love it!

First off I should have bought the turbo. At the time I was concerned about gas and reliability. The turbo takes premium fuel and is usually less reliable. Don't under estimate the importance of FUN. The basic four cylinder does not have enough power to have fun, the acceleration is weak.I also like the aggressive looks of the turbo, the X is bland. If your looking for a basic commuter/hauler the forester is a good car but if you want some performance and luxury get the turbo or look elsewhere. I bought the forester because I needed some cargo space. They gave me a good price for my trade in. My last car was a Audi A4 so it's been a hard adjustment, I feel the down grade.

Smooth but rattles

The Forester 2.5X base model is a good value and is a decent and quiet AWD wagon on the road. I upgraded the base model with leather and installed my own hood protector, mud guards, and bumper guard. I'm still breaking in the engine at < 800 miles so mileage is all over, between 22 and 28 mpg. I owned a 2001 Forester S (loved that Subie) and changed to my 2.5X. The jury is still out as I need more time behind the wheel. The annoying and loud rattles in the rear of the vehicle is putting a damper on what should be an enjoyable driving experience with this Subaru. Some loading on the floor seem to quiet the rattles a little. I'll have the dealer try to fix the rattles next week.

When you read this review please keep in mind that this is my first v4, awd, suv'ish car. i bought the forester primarily because i was looking for a small suv that could handle the snow and more rugged terrain, had more cargo room, and was environmentally friendlier (pzev was a big draw). Overall i would say that my experience has been good. The handling is not great although I think that may be because i'm used to low profile cars and the acceleration isn't great - it tends to stick on some gears. As a lot of other people mentioned, the stereo stinks but i only noticed rattle over speed bumps. i'm averaging 23 - 25 mpg combined so far.

My 2010 Subaru Forester Limited is 72k miles. I got it brand new. NEVER had an issue with it by just providing very basic maintenance (brakes, tires, oil changes and wipers). All maintenance has been done at the dealership. It rides very smooth. It has good traction. It drives beautifully in the snow. It is roomy when needed. It is very easy to drive and love this vehicle. I couldn't be happier with it. The only thing I do not like about it is the fact that it does not have as much isolation between the exterior and the interior. In other words, it is not as quiet inside as other vehicles on its category are. I have to increase the volume of the music I am playing to be able to muffle and omit some of the road sound from the exterior. One thing is a little bit disappointing is the fact that even though I bought a "Limited" edition, for some reason it does not say anywhere in the vehicle. Other than those two thing, I simply love this vehicle.

Drove this vehicle today. Super handling machine indeed! All wheel drive standard on all Subarus. I took it to the unpaved roads of the park and was making circles and other maneuvers at high speed. And that all was after rain. Not a hint of a wheel slip or something. Loved the car! Plenty of head room and leg room (I'm 6'1). Steering is light, gas pedal is very responsive, power is aplenty, brake pedal feel is a bit mushy though. Rear seat legroom is good, cargo area is very accommodating. Pedals are nicely apart from each other, so you won't hit both.

Recently purchased 08/24/2009 but already super impressed. I'm a tank, and my wife is a little bitty woman but our Forrester fits us both with all the comfort we could ask for. I have gone over this vehicle with a fine tooth comb and could not find a single defect, try that with any of the big three American brands. I intend on driving this car for many years, since my trade was a 92 Explorer. Almost a years research went into my purchase decision, I could not beat the safety options, comfort options, and other features for the price. Other comparable vehicles would have cost much more. I have never been as impressed with a vehicle as I have with this one. I know I have made the best choice!

My wife and I have zero complaints. We are both previous Subaru owners, I'm still driving a 1996 Outback Sport Impreza. If you like Subaru's you won't be disappointed, the Forester handles, sounds, feels, and drives like a Subaru. We love the power adjustable seat and the clear view of the road. The turning radius of this size vehicle is great. The heated seats control does take some time to get use to. The radio could use an upgrade, but with some fine tuning the premium radio sounds decent. If your the type of person that needs alot of pick up and go, I recommend the XT. My wife and I are very happy with the non- turbo power. Tons of room and great for outdoor recreation. MPG = AWD.

I gave up an eclipse spyder gts for this SUV I thought I am downgrading but to my amazement this is just as fun as a convertible, drives really good, love the sunroof actually better than a convertible because I could still enjoy the sun without messing up my hair. The interior is a lot better compared to CR-V, rogue, and rav4. I am a very satisfied owner. I still have to wait for winter to see well it does but from what I heard it works really good. Love it! And I will recommend it to my friends. Thanks to the wonderful staff at ganley wickliffe Ohio. I did not feel pressured and was very accommodating. More power to you guys. God bless.

We wanted a smaller suv to replace the aging Explorer. It has sufficient power even with the 4-speed auto. It's extremely comfortable. It should have a power seat for the front passenger but doesn't. Has had several rattles from the get go. The radio is not as good as the Explorer. On the interstate you could be running 80 before you realize it. It's that quiet. It has ample room for our purposes and should make a good vehicle for traveling. So far we're not sorry we purchased it.

I'm not gross speeder, but I typically go with the flow of traffic. In CA, it's about 80 mph. The Forester has no problem cruising at such speeds; the annoyance is the acceleration up to that speed. The 0-60 times are on par with a Prius, no joke. The vehicle is a good height to get into and out of. The doors open a full 90 degrees. The sheet metal on the car, combined with the very light plastics give the overall first impression of cheap, but no problems to report. Driving dynamics on the road are decent for an SUV, but suffers from understeer in emergency handling. Transmission is easily confused in certain situations.

Me and my wife just purchased a 2010 Forester on 5/8/2010. Color is pearl, auto w/sport shift, moon roof, 17 in wheels. I love my forester! I have only let my wife drive it once. I haven't run across anyone that hasn't liked Pearl. The Forester is liked by adults/children, men and women doesn't matter it's a great car and very liked or loved depending on your point of view. Love the moon room. The passengers love the space. I love the cargo area and the adjustable drivers seat! It handles like a dream especially on rough surfaces, tight corners and in the rain. You will not be disappointed. Sweet ride! Get one!

In my opinion Subaru has a peppy engine, AWD and much better visibility. It is fun to drive. With 800 miles driven in mixed city/highway conditions the car is averaging about 24 mpg. The dash readout inflates that number by about 1 mpg. The engine is exceptionally smooth, better than some V6 engines. Bad stuff: Passenger seat is too low. Radio is very good except I get some static in the low frequency range on AM. Best car I have owned.

I traded in my 2005 Chevy Equinox for a, hopefully, more reliable Subaru Forester. I love that the car isn't fancy, but drives like a decent sedan rather than a truck-like SUV. The visibility is fantastic, and there is more than enough room for 2 car seats in the back. This is meant to be our second vehicle, but I am confident that we wouldn't mind using the Forester for our family car in many situations. Looking forward to leaving the "American car" behind.

I have the 2.5x limited edition with Navigation, satellite radio, blue tooth and leather seats. Ive only had it for 2 months now but so far its a good purchase and I have no regrets. The leather seats with navigation etc is way way better than the regular base forester. The interior looks totally different. The base model looks really cheap and boring on the inside. Get the limited edition if you are getting a forester.

Purchased end of July. Just reached 2,200 miles and first trip. My MPG numbers were as advertised. Great handling around town or on trip, have not been off road yet! Moon roof is huge, built very solid, no creeks or rattles yet! Great styling, right size for me, also very good turning circle for tight driveways and such. On test drive Turbo brought an instant smile to my face (first Turbo I've driven), plenty of power and solid handling on rough back roads. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

For awhile took some adjusting on my part because I often made the error of having the gearshift in the "sport" mode and was overtaxing the gas mileage by doing so. When I finally corrected that (grateful to my salesman for that) I simply shifted the gear to the correct position and that made all the difference. Being this car is an AWD and has the turbo feature, it handles all the roads very smoothly. Can even drive quite fast and wouldn't notice the difference. Not sure whether having a 5th gear would make a difference as many others have commented about. The factory installed radio is weak but I experienced the same thing with my last car, a Volvo.

Wife and I live on the Navajo Indian Reservation where most traveling is considered long distance. Thirty percent of driving on the Reservation is off road. Sand, mud, and snow is not a problem for my basic 2010 Forester and road driving is a pleasure. I use my Silverado truck for *fair weather* driving. Forester does it all for my Wife and I. We intend to be conservative with it and keep it for years. Thank you Subaru.

I like the Forester -- it has everything we were looking for in terms of performance, room, and affordability and we have a much higher confidence in our family's safety with the AWD and high safety ratings. The glaring issue is the road and wind noise at 45 mph+. I don't think I picked up on it enough in the test drive. I feel like I'm driving a giant penny whistle, or camping on Everest. I expect/hope to get used to it, but Subaru really needs to work on this issue.

I got one of the first 2010 Foresters available in my area, and have had nothing but great experiences with it. The interior is much roomier than the previous version of this model, and the controls are laid out attractively and logically. The Moon Roof is simply gargantuan, making the car more fun to drive than is the case with most SUVs. Power is sufficient for my needs (I haven't tried to tow anything), and MPG is in the 23-25 range for combined suburban-&-highway driving. I wish Subaru offered the Forester in green (they don't), but that's a minor quibble. Overall, the 2010 Forester is every bit as fine as "Consumer Reports" says it is -- i.e., outstanding!

My wife and I are "heavyweights" so we appreciate extra leg and hip room. The Forester has plenty for us. I like the peppy power train and tight turning radius. It's like driving a go-kart. More power than I expected from a 4 cylinder 170 HP engine. I think the fuel economy is great, We've gotten 33 mpg on the highway and up to 24 mpg in the city. That far exceeds the 22 mpg EPA estimate on the sticker. I believe that a 6-speed auto transmission would help increase the gas mileage even more. We have the "Limited" edition which has the upgraded interior, but the interior seems a bit cheap and thin plastic is abundant.

We have had this car about 3-months. It is a little rough around the edges. It has a lot of power in a 4-cylinder engine though a little noisy when first started. It is comfortable and easy to drive, but my wife complains the rear hatch is heavy and hard to close. The car has the all-weather package which is excellent. Windshield and mirrors are easy to clear of snow/sleet/fog. I am disappointed in features it is missing. Homelink is extra. Bluetooth is extra. Backup camera is extra. The radio sounds flat and CDs sound like something is missing.

I drove an Audi A6 so I was used to lots of amenities. I used edmunds.com to narrow my search to 5 medium SUVs. The trend in body styles seems to be lots of body in the back with a small window...looks good from the outside but feels claustrophobic inside and isn't helpful when you're trying to back up or merge onto a highway. That put the Rogue and Tucson lower on my list. I test drove the CR-V - nice. I left the RAV 4 till last - I expected to drive it home. But when I drove the Forester, I was impressed at how comfortable and spacious it was. The RAV 4 interior looks cheap by comparison. I bought the Subaru and drove it 2000 miles so far, including a trip to Canada. I still love it.

I've only had this car for 2 1/2 weeks and I love it. I sold my 2002 Jeep Liberty 2wheel drive for this Subie and I love it. I live were it snows a lot and the all wheel drive is great. The car handles nicely. I had a rattle in the back but I just opened and closed all the doors and it went away. The radio is on the cheap side but I don't live in the car I just drive to work so it will do just fine. The passenger seat is a little low but that's a minor issue. all-in-all this is a great value for what you get in terms of safety and driving. There is also a lot of cargo space for a 'small' SUV

Like everyone, I test drove the others CRV, RAV4, but decided on the Forester ultimately for it's AWD and safety reputation. I've driven it for 3 months now and it definitely has been an overall positive experience. It feels great when driving in wet/snowy conditions...this alone makes it worth the purchase. Yes, there is a rattle in the back that my dealership is working on and the radio could be a bit more powerful...but other than that I'm quite satisfied. I get 24 mpg mixed city/highway, which I'm happy with. Hopefully I'll be one those loyal Subie fans.

This car is amazing. I picked it because I don't know too many people who drive it, and I feel like a million bucks when I am in it. I used to drive a Saturn L2, so this is quite a difference! I get 26-30 MPG on the highway with this car. It's the perfect size for me, though I could see a family of 4 driving it as well. Everyone I have driven in it loves it, and I like its size--big enough for passive safety, but not as gigantic as some other SUVs out there. Even my dad who is against "foreign cars" (even though it's built here) likes it a lot. No buyer's remorse whatsoever--best first car I could ever get!

Researched this car for over a year and balanced it against the CRV, RAV 4 and Escape. Excellent visibility at all corners, fun to drive factor, AWD, vibration free 4cylinder engine and Subaru's reputation for quality won. Getting 24 to 24.5 mpg with 50/50 city/hiway mix.

I bought my Forester in July 2009 and this is February 18 2010. I personally like the interior and have not had problems with rattling inside the cabin. The radio is very weak and lacks good controls. I am satisfied with the mileage. I do very little city driving, mostly country and highway and I average 24-28 mpg. When I compare how the Forester's drive compares to my wife's Rav4, I prefer the Subaru any day due to the softer seats and better power steering. We have had over 40 inches of snow this winter in eastern KY and the Subaru has impressed me with the AWD on snowy and icy roads. The visibility is great and there is plenty of head room. Also plenty of room in the back.

So far so good. I test drove the new Outback, not please at all with the drive. The Forester however is easy to maneuver, no major blind spots. Leather is a must, other models w/o leather seem sub-par.

I owned an '03 XS Premium, which I traded for the '10. I love the added room and new exterior styling. Things lost from the '03 - the handling is less nimble and more boat-like, there is less usable cabin storage space, the radio is not as good, the cabin fit and finishes are not nearly as nice as before, and the red display lights and small lettering for the steering wheel, radio and fan/heat/ac controls are annoying and hard to read (don't designers know that red is irritating??). I will keep this car for a long time; I just wish Subaru didn't cut so many corners on the interior.

This is our fourth Subaru. 02 WRX, 08 Outback, 09 STI, and 2010 Forester. If you know Subaru you know the beauty of Maximum Value, Reliability, and Safety! Did I mention a blast to drive as well. This car has the same dash as my STI and drives like an AWD car with slick SUV looks. Subaru did a great job with the new style! This car is driven primarily by my wife and she loves it! (So do I!) I'd rather have her in a forester than any other compact SUV or crossover. Go with the best get a Subie!

I am a business owner in CO. I drive city, highway, dirt roads and have to get through the snow. I LOVE my Forester. The winter package is a must. The Forester looks small on the outside but packs a punch on the inside. I have yet to max out the cargo space inside. Backseats fold flat and provide enormous space. Symmetrical AWD is amazing. I often see vehicles sliding and getting stuck, and I drive right by with no problem. As a previous Wrangler and Liberty owner, I was concerned about ground clearance, but it is not an issue. We have a cabin located at 12k ft. Only access is a steep, dirt road lined with trees and boulders. Taking the Forester up the road is no problem.

We went shopping for for a car for my girlfriend on Sept 5th...my birthday...great present for me - hehe.. Anyways, we were looking at the usual suspects, CRV, RAV4, X3 BMW, Escape, maybe the Edge, Equinox. Basically a small to mid sized SUV. She drove the Subaru and LOVED it, that combined with 2 past Subarus her parents had owned and her mom having a CRV (this was the front runner, but she had driven it A TON so knew what she liked and didn't.) She fell in love with the Subaru, just a great, practical, safe, fun car. GREAT JOB!! We worked a good deal and couldn't say no.

My trade was a 2006 Highlander ,a near perfect SUV but the 2010 model is now larger than needed. The Forester is a great fit. All else being fairly equal I chose the Forester over the RAV4 and CRV because of the practical styling. An easy to use rear hatch and better visibility. So far the more I drive it the more I am convinced that I made the right choice. My suggestion for anyone looking for a compact SUV is to take your time and test drive them all.

We purchased two 2010 Forester XT Ltd. w/Nav. My wife and I each have roughly 2000 miles on our Foresters. It's only been a little over three months, but we are very pleased with our Foresters. Our first test drive was in an X Premium model which we would have bought, but then we drove the XT. The trade-off of slightly lower gas mileage is easily forgotten when you step on the throttle. Visibility is excellent, and the ride is comfortable and quiet. The Forester has very good road manners, although, a stiffer rear sway bar is in order to reduce some of the body roll. Pot holes and road imperfections are no problem as the suspension soaks them up easily. Great car. Excellent value!

After owning 2 Fords (a 1996 Ranger and a 2002 Explorer, both having tranny issues), I finally bought the car I have longed for- a Subaru Forester. While it's taking a little time to get used to driving a lower profile vehicle, I cannot say enough about how impressed I am with the power, room, gas mileage and handling of this X- over. It's gonna be a great vehicle for our Buffalo, NY winters and should get it's first real test later today, since we have a winter storm warning for the area. I have several friends with Subies and they all seem to have gotten long term mileage out of their vehicles. Reliability and safety were two of the things that attracted me to the Subaru brand.

Had the car for a month now. The whole family enjoys driving it. Handles well, very responsive in steering and power for a 4. AC works very well. Thought I would feel "overwhelmed" by the size after a sedan all these yrs but feel comfortable driving. all in all, so far... very happy with the vehicle. We tend to keep our cars until they die so if it lasts as long as the Jetta - 14 yrs-frame rusted out but still runs like a champ - I will be happy. However today, started to smell gas, really strong. Don't know what that is about but quite concerned. called dealer but was after hours. hopefully will talk with them tomorrow.
