Subaru is for YOU
No one wants to spend money for a car. But this car is well worth the money and makes the buying experience less painful. This car is a pleasure to drive. The salesman was the most knowledgeable of all salespeople I have dealt with my entire car buying life, and I’m 72.

Ascent has been outstanding
I have a 2020 Ascent Limited. With almost 25,000 miles, I have a considerable amount of real-world experience. Please follow outline, below: 1. Problems: There have been no problems or breakdowns. Haven’t had to use warranty. 2. Power: The turbo 4 has a surprising amount of power. I have driven it over the Rocky Mountains, Utah’s mountains, the Sierra Nevada and Arizona’s mountains with full loads many times. It performs well. 3. MPG: Town driving get 22 to 23. Highway at 70 gets 27 mpg. At 80, 25 mpg. Towing 4,000 lb trailer at 60, gets 18 to 19. 4. Comfort: A/C is outstanding. Kept us cool in Phoenix and Las Vegas in heat wave temps of 117°. Impressive. Engine never overheats. Excellent heater and heated seats for Colorado winters. Car rides well, but not cushy like a Cadillac or Lincoln. 5. Safety: Subaru got it right. Top Safety Pick Plus. Very impressed with safety. 6. X Drive: I live in Colorado. This car has never gotten stuck, and it’s been in some deep snow, mud and other tough situations. 7. Towing: I have over 50 years of towing experience. If you honor the 5,000 pound limit ((500 lbs hitch limit), this car does very well. It exceeded my expectations with it’s factory hitch and electric brake pre-wired configuration. I know of people who have towed much heavier loads than recommended by Subaru. Frankly, after considering the input of several drivers, it would appear that Subaru and its engineers were very conservative; however, I recommend sticking with the 5k limit. The car handles towing very well, but don’t skip using electric brakes. I tow at about 60 mph, but have gone faster either because I didn’t pay attention or was passing. Yes, it will pass with ease even with a 4,400 lb trailer. Ample power. 8. Complaints: Luggage rack does not have built-in cross bars like the Outback. Subaru seems to like to automatically lock doors once you start driving. After parking car in garage, if I want to enter car other than at front doors, have to either have FOB with me or hit the unlock button on driver’s side front door. Subaru engineers have a bias for locking the heck out of this car. I think that there is a way to disable this system, or you could just automatically hit unlock upon leaving car in the garage. Or just carry a FOB all the time. 9. Passengers: I have captains chairs midship, so seating is 2, 2 and 3 in back. My grandkids love the captains’ chairs. They have climate controls, seat heaters, and charging ports for iPhones and iPads. Plus, plenty of places to put water or other beverages.

Outstanding Car
In all respects, this car has gone beyond my expectations. The car has been trouble-free. The engine is responsive and surprisingly powerful. MPG has been consistent with EPA estimates. Update: One puzzling fact. The Ascent Limited I own has a Top Safety Pick + (plus). The Telluride that I also considered did not get the TSP + rating, but rather the second place rating of TSP (no plus). The Edmunds’ raters did not apparently note this important fact. Safety is a big deal to me, and the Ascent beat Telluride in this crucial category.
Ascending to new heights with the Ascent
Great SUV for the money. The technology and options are excellent and it drives like a car, not like a truck.

Love this car and all it has to offer. Driving it makes us all feel safer and at ease.
Awesome Ascent
I love the size of this car! It’s perfect for me! Not too big but fits a lot in the back with the seats down!! I have the back bucket seats. Really nice! I think it’s a really cool looking car. Easy to drive.

Upsides and Downsides
Pros: comfortable seats, tons of storage space, comfortable suspension, low maintenance so far, nice moonroof, 7 seat configuration is convenient Cons: apple and android play unreliable, power lift gate drains battery and needs a TSB fix to be able to leave tailgate up for camping, lots of nagging beeps for reminders, has a drivetrain recall already, looks cheap inside, underpowered battery (I am part of the FB group Subaru Ascent Dead Battery Club) 😂

Everything I hoped for
Great acceleration, love the front and rear cameras, and the ride is comfortable. The adaptive cruise control has reduced my wife's complaints about my driving and is excellent in heavy traffic. It did take a while to get used to the accelerator, now my 2011 Outback Limited 3.6R accelerator seems sluggish.

Not the prefect car
Dislikes. Interior hard to clean, interior noisy, ride not as smooth as thought, gas mileage poor 18 all around, seat not comfortable for a 6'1" 285 lb man. Drives good in all weather. Stable on all roads, electronics good, set controls ok but not handy.
