Mechanics can't get parts or fix them!

We absolutely love our driving our Ascent....when it's not in the shop! We bought a Subaru for it's reliability but at 10 mos old our Ascent began failing. All the lights ( indicating check engine, breaks, eyesight, safety features) went on. We took it into a Madison Wisc dealer. They told us the part needed had to come from California and took 5 days to get. Haven't they heard of overnight or express ship? When the part arrived, it was replaced only to find out it was an emissions problem instead. We are an hour away from the dealership, and on the way home all the check engine lights went on AGAIN. The mechanics training ( or diagnostic computer( fails when it comes to all the new technology found on the Ascent. Ready to trade it in for a non Subaru.

Rattling under the front passenger side started at 2600 miles. Replaced the strut, replaced some coil, then took a stab at it by replacing the rotors?! Navigation went out, then the air conditioner. Very little help from the dealer. 17 days in the shop and still not fixed. Guess I should have known better than to buy a first year model.

Not Subaru quality

Have a 2016 Outback that we love, but with the kids felt that we needed a bigger vehicle to haul them around or take trips with. So we purchased the 2019 Subaru Ascent, 1st problem I noticed is the radio will quit working, it freezes on the channel you were listening to and you can’t change it or adjust the volume, will happen randomly and no idea why. 2nd problem we had was the A-Pillar kept popping off, those that don’t know what it is it’s the side trim piece running along the windshield by the passenger door. Took it to the dealer the service guy said well you know it has to be loose for the airbag, I about flipped on him, asked for another service person. They kept popping it back in till finally I had enough and they had to replace it. The newest thing that just happened today was the entire instrument panel lit up, check engine light, no eyesights on the camera even though it’s not clogged, the xmode flashing, the other assists(lane, frontal collision) lights are flashing. Have to take it down to the dealer yet again, not what I expected from Subaru.

Love our Subaru Ascent

After researching and test driving 6 different 3 row SUV models we selected the Ascent. We live in Alaska and are conducting a 40 day 9k mike trek to tour colleges and visit friends and family across the east coast and then back to Alaska. We ordered our Ascent through a dealership in North Carolina, where we started our trip after flying in from Alaska. They ordered the vehicle to our specifications and it was manufactured in Indiana and delivered ahead of schedule prior to our arrival. We added a roof rack, hitch and door protection package. Also, we opted for the 7 year starlink package 375 dollars and extended warranty for 7 years 1600 dollars. The starlink made more sense than adding a 500 dollar car starter and has some unique additions. We love it. The warranty was a hedge based on the extensive electronics and potential replacement costs. Performance: so far we have driven the vehicle 4K miles over 23 days - loaded with everything we need for a forty day trip - to include a full Yakima topper. The vehicle has performed exceptionally on country roads - I 95 - city insane traffic and poorly maintained roads. We are at 13 states over 23 days and we love this vehicle - and we are not easy to please. Storage is great, interior is roomy, safety package rocks for crazy traffic and changing lanes, numerous charging ports, quiet ride and plenty of power. Also, so much more space in back rows than other models. We are a Toyota family - but Highlander upgrades and electronics were subpar. This vehicle is well thought out and has performed exceptionally - can’t wait to put it to the test in the snow of Alaska. Last note - just smart designed car for a reasonable price - when using a roof rack the vehicle is very tall - but Subaru has flat stepping points along the doors - it makes it so easy to use roof rack accessories. Just ingenious. Feel like we got a safe, technologically progressive, almost European interior and Avery affordable vehicle that is also ready to take on the winter. I highly recommend this vehicle and have done so to numerous young friends and families on our adventure.

We purchased this vehicle brand new; we were told by the sales man and multiple people that Subaru was very good quality and reliable. From the get go, the vehicle’s transmission jerks, I’m assuming this is from the CVT transmission imitating gears. Then, the panoramic sunroof suddenly cracked on its own (no point of impact). A quick google search revealed that apparently this is a common problem with this model for the sunroof to crack for no apparent reason. Then, the most troublesome has been the rear lift gate; it’s always getting stuck with a constant chime and the only way to reset it is by disconnecting the battery. I spoke to the dealer and they said whenever it happens just disconnect the battery. Well, the problem is I paid 40k for a vehicle and shouldn’t have to disconnect my darn battery just to gain access to my vehicle!! This happened to me several times in the airport, hotels etc. Not only is this embarrassing but a major inconvenience! If I can go back in time and not purchase this vehicle, I would! Come on Subaru!!?! Where’s is the great quality craftsmanship you always speak about!!??? Update: we traded in the vehicle 1 year after and took a loss. Very disappointed in Subaru!
