My Best Car Yet
My Saturn SC2 goes up for sale tomorrow with over 152k on it and it's still going strong and looks almost as good as the day we bought it. I have owned Mitsubishi, Toyota, VW, and other cars and only the Dodge Colt has made it as far as this Saturn without trouble. For an American car, this has been truly amazing experience. The only repairs I have had in all this time have been a water pump and alternator. I can honestly say that if it weren't for the high miles and the long distances I drive, I would keep this car even longer. I am going to miss the way it handles and rides.
Super car
This has been a great car particularly for city driving. Good mileage even with all the short trips. Drove to Springhill 2 times for reunions with very good experience. Only repair of any size was a recent tuneup and new head gasket ( ca. 50,000 mi.) Other wise only oil change - doesn't use any! Fun to drive. Love the plastic side panels.
It might not dent but it cracks
I purchased a used 1994 SC2 w/ 60k for $7500. Within 2 months I needed a new transmission. Five months later the car was nearly totalled by a minivan but repaired. After that the car was nothing but trouble. It finaly died when the timing chain blew a hole in the head. The only saving grace of the car was it was a blast to drive.
Nice Car--Valve Body Issues
Great little economy car for the family. It gets great gas mileage, comes well loaded with options, has reasonably crisp acceleration for a car it's size. We purchased an SL2 automatic, and have had problems with the valve body. It's been replaced twice in the last two years at $710 for parts and labor. OUCH!
If you get a Saturn, unload it fast
I live around 30 miles from the nearest Saturn dealer. Saturn makes car ownership convenient while the care is young, but they cut corners and the reliability is poor. It's the wrong choice for someone who lives far from the dealership and plans to hold onto the car for a long time.
