Used 1991 Porsche 928 Hatchback Consumer Reviews
Cliff's 91 Porsche 928
This is my 3rd 928 I've owned and Iloved every one of them. I think it'sthe best car that was ever made. I bought them all used.
Dream Car Aquired!
I love my 928S4!. Whoever said don't meet your heros never met the right 928. I absolutely love this car! The styling is timeless, the build quality superb, and the performance is beyond what I would expect for a 34 year old car. In our local PCA events, I'm easily keeping up with much more modern Boxsters, Caymans, and 911s on the backroad twisties. It gets attention everywhere I go to the point my wife just has to laugh sometimes at my fellow Gen Xers that "fan boy" over it. It is just an amazing car. As for comments and concerns around reliabiltiy, the sad truth is once these cars depreciated in their first 10 years of life or so they began to fall into the hands of people that could afford to buy one, but not afford to maintain one. The 928 was Porsche's flagshop, the most expensive model they sold at the time and parts and Porsche labor are not cheap. Timing belt changes and water pump replacements are regular maintenance items, but on a 928 it will set you back thousands. So it's not that the car is unreliable and will constantly break down. It's that the regular, required maintenance is expensive and if you start skipping that for years on end, then yes, the car will break down as will any other neglected car. BUT if you can find a well sorted one like I did and have the means to stay on top of the maintenance, then the car will last forever and give you years of smiles.
