Used 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE2 4dr Sedan Consumer Reviews
Great car!
I inherited my '99 Grand Am from my grandmother when I was 16 (in 2005). It had 117,000 miles on it and had no problems at all. Shortly after getting it, the window on the driver side refused to roll up. The volume control for the radio was faulty. Those were the only things that ever happened to it. I never got them fixed, and was fine. Went to college for a year without it. Sat for 2 years w/o driving. Replaced coolant system, fuel pump, and battery and it was back to running great! The side mirrors fell off (easy fix-it-yourself). Have to junk yard it because I got rear-ended. I'm sad to see it go. Considering getting another. Excellent car. I definitely recommend it!
Not what I expected from GM
I am dissappointed in this car. I have had 3 sets of front brake pads and 2 sets of front rotors on this car and still the brakes make a noise. I just put a new altenator on it a month ago. I found a leak in the intake manifold and took it to a different dealer than I purchased the vehicle from to get better service. The bolts in the intake were not tightened to specs and backed out causing a leak. Also had to send the radio off twice to be repaired because of parts in the radio overheating and failing. I will not buy another vehicle from Ponitac as long as I have the memory of this car in my head.
Don't waste your money
Things were always going wrong and needed to be replaced with expensive 'special parts.' The window motor died & supposedly each window has a different specific motor... $750. The stereo LCD went in and out randomly as well as the ABS sensor light. This car also takes special tires... went to wal-mart & got the cheapest of that kind... $500+ for 3 tires. My air/heat duct came undone and i could only faintly feel air if it was set to level 5 (high). I was rear-ended the other day in Christmas traffic; it totaled it (because it's plastic), while the bmw that hit me was able to drive away afterward. Kelly Blue book says I'll only get 1k after all that money I put into it.
Good till about 100,000
So I got this car for college. I when I bought it it only had 64000 miles on it. However the repairs stated soon after. I had issues with my starter twice, I don't know how many sets of full brakes it went through. One day I walked outside, started the car and the strut broke in the parking lot. It leaked coolent, and overheated. Had to replace water pump, head gaskets twice, alternator, mirrors fell off just looking them, back windows stopped working, and wheel bearings. I did however enjoy driving it when it was working. Also door stop are great at holding up windows.

Car does not last but cost
I have purchased this CERTIFIED Grand AM SE2 V6 from local dealer 11/02, today is 8/03, I needed to fix breaks, rotors, battery, lights, alternator, temperature sensor and wires, struss, signal switches, break lights and other little things. Each time I got an oil change, it cost me more than 500 or more. The performance of this car is only average even though it has a "V6" engine. It eats up the gas like there is no tommorrow and things are falling apart while you trying to accellerate. Don't depend on your break it does not stop on a dime. Go for a toyota!
