The most underrated truck in America

Americans love tradition. Moreover, they love trucks. This makes it exceedingly difficult for newcomers to get a fair shake. Exhibit A is the Nissan Titan XD. I just returned from a 2,200 mile tow across the USA with a new Platinum Reserve and new Jayco 27 foot trailer. Wow. The Titan XD was flawless. It was powerful, comfortable, granite stable, and good looking. The media gives it middling marks in terms of the numbers. While the numbers make good marketing hype, everyday reality is a different matter...the truck does everything I need without fuss or complaint. It’s put together like a Swiss watch. It easily equals the American competition, in many cases surpassing it. Shouldn’t this matter given the exorbitant costs involved? Call me an untraditional American. I’m fine with it. This truck is a stellar investment.

Underrated Truck

This is my 3rd Titan. We have taken our Titan XD all around the West coast. Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Iowa, Washington, Utah, Arizona> We have owned a 2011 Chevy Silverado, 2008 Tundra, 2001 F150, 2004 Ram 1500, 2019 Titan Pro4X, 2020 Pro4X and now a 2010 Titan XD PRO4X.. Everyone knocks down the Titan because it only comes with one engine choice. All critics say it cannot tow that much so the truck isn't worth it. I had a 2008 Tundra and towed 12000 lbs from Allentown PA to Gilbert AZ and it never struggled. I had a 2005 For Excursion and towed a 30 foot camper which weighed about 8000 lbs fully loaded. My Titan XD is more powerful than my Tundra was and I know I can tow more than 12000 lbs with it. Nissan says you cannot tow more than 9600 lbs. The Japanese have always been very conservative with their estimates. They are conservative in their MPG numbers and they are conservative in their towing numbers. Driving through Utah along the I15 we averaged 95 to 100MPH and used Sinclair premium with no Ethanol and was able to get 23.5 MPG. Nissan wouldn't even give mileage estimates on the XD because it is a heavy duty truck. This is a great truck, great ride for a truck, very powerful, does the job.

I have really enjoyed this truck. They updated the transmission and electronic package over my 2018. The interior is also noticeably quiter. My only complaint would be it is thirsty . I would give it a 5 star if I got better gas mileage but it is a big V8 so what should I expect.

My P/U & SUV needed replacement at about the same time. Not wanting to support 2 vehicles, the Nissan Titan Platinum was a great compromise for me. It had all the amenities of an SUV while maintaining the usefulness of a P/U. It took some time, but Edmunds gave me the lead on exactly what I was looking for, make, model, year, mileage, color & most of all price. Well done Edmunds.
