I was looking for a practical car for my long commute (76 miles RT) The Corolla SE and Nissan Kicks SV were at the top of my list. I test drive the corolla first and didn't like it, the car was just ok. I continued to Honda and test drive a Civic (Sport) in red, the driving dynamics were by far superior to the Corolla. The Civic is sporty and sexy on the outside and well appointed and comfortable inside. I almost bought this car, but my wife didn't want the Civic. The following day, I went to Nissan to try the kicks and told my reluctant wife that the Mazda CX-30 was next on our list. Upon arrival at Nissan, we spotted a beautiful two-toned dark red kicks SV with a black roof, the car was really nice, had plenty of room on the second row and trunk, but the engine was severely under powered. Then we spotted an electric blue Sentra SV (which was never on my list or my wife's), it came with a premium package (ivory leather seats, power seats, sun roof, Michelin tires) we test drive this car and got blown away by the experience (peppy engine), the Sentra cornered sharp curves like nothing, since it is a new model (been on the market for few months now) as opposed to the 4-year old Civic, the interior was superior to the Civic as well. It is very elegant, everything is in the right position and visibility is superb, you definitely get more car for the money. We were so impressed with the test drive that decided on the spot that the Sentra was the car we were buying. In the showroom, they had a metalic orange Sentra SR with a black roof, LED lights, lower suspension, spoiler and other add ons to make it look very sporty. We bought this car and got a great deal from Nissan ($21.5k, 0%, 60 months) After few hundred miles, I like this car even better, it is really elegant, the interior is comfortable, roomy (my 12 and 14 year old daughters love all the space they have in the back) and it comes with all the latest technologies. Nissan did a good job with this car for sure. On the negative side, its hard to find something to say here, but there are few minor things for consideration: (1) MPG is listed as 29/39 on the SV and 28/37 on the SR, which is the trim that I have, but I am getting only 29-30 (average) so far, which is below the 32-33 MPG I was hoping/expecting. (2) at highway speed, sometimes I get a vibration on the steering wheel for a second or two, it might have to do more with the Hancock tires on the SR (I test drove the SV with Michelin tires and never felt the vibration), and lastly (3) the light sensor is super sensitive, when I drive underneath overpasses sometimes the dash goes dark (low light mode) and comes right back to high light mode (for contrast) when receives sun light again, I wish Nissan engineers had tuned this feature for a lag of 20-30 seconds or so, so it doesn't change light modes so fast, but some drivers might like this feature instead. I am really happy with this car, it has everything at a really good price, without unnecessary trade offs, it is roomy, agile, elegant and sporty.

I wanted something that looks sporty with great mileage I found it. I drove hundreds of cars and this one here turned out to be my favorite. One thing about this car you need to know right away it only brkes for traffic when you have the progressive cruise control on. The front emergency stop only works for pedestrians. The rear will stop for pedestrians or anything else. The Toyota Corolla did not have enough room in the backseat for a 6 ft tall person to sit up straight. The Honda Accord and Civic along with the Malibu or the cruise have a 1.5 liter engine. They had a turbo charger on them to make up for performance. It has a cost. The turbochargers are prematurely failing or the valves for them. They are are causing diluting of the engine oil with gasoline now.. Turbochargers only belong on the larger diesels with high compression.. if I had to do it all over again I would buy another one I'm very happy with it the only problem I have is getting out and in.. hopefully this information helps people looking have a good day...

Manufactured in a rush?

I really like the outside look of the car. I love the black trimming detail. The interior is nice as well and the seats are comfortable. It drives very smooth and you hardly feel any bumps on the road. Now There are a few things I don’t like. First off the infotainment system is very glitchy and sometimes CarPlay doesn’t turn on right away. I’ve taken it to be serviced for this but it wasn’t resolved 100%. The backup camera could use improvement as it is kinda blurry. The car is noisy when you turn it on and accelerate. It sounds like a car over 10 years old. Also, a few months after getting the car, I noticed a noise when I would turn and then a little after 10,000 miles I noticed my brakes screeching. I’ve owned this car over 2.5 years and I would not recommend it unless you’re in a budget

Comfortable

Seating is more comfortable than our CT4, front and rear. Pro reviews are way off as usual. Purchased for 16 year old son. No one needs a car that accelerates for a race track. I drive a 2003 Ranger that is truly slow. If I am first at stoplight, next car is half block behind. Most drivers have horse and buggy reactions. Safety features are robust. If you are looking for car for teenager can't go wrong. Purchase Nissan extended warranty. Modern cars can drain you out of warranty. Computer on wheels.

Ok, so: they took 3 months to diagnose and fix the engine mount that had been rattling since I bought it in May, Then the gear shift came right off! Wish I could post a pic! The front end collision warning light flashes off and on, for no apparent reason. Snow, fog, sun, rain, it doesn’t matter. It just arbitrarily blinks. As I that wasn’t enough! It does the emergency brake thing fir NO reason. It just did it again today! Just decided to brake for fun. Don’t worry about the traffic behind me who think I’m slamming on my brakes for fun! Add to that the NEW rattle in the front right of my car. It sounds like it’s coming from the glove box, but I emptied it. And it’s getting worse everyday. What can I say? I should have bought the Mazda I was looking at. SO done with this car!

At 500 miles and the car drains the battery overnight with nothing left on. Now for the past 3 nights the headlights are shutting themselves off while driving in the dark and will not come back on for several minutes.

Surprisingly Good

I will say right up front that I do not own this car, but I have had one for several weeks as rental vehicle while my car was in the shop, and frankly I'm shocked by how good it has been. The interior is well laid out, and spacious enough for the segment. The adjustability of the seats on my SV were somewhat lacking; as someone with long legs, I like the front of my seat angled up to give support so I can sit comfortably close to the steering wheel, and sadly this wasn't an option. I do believe this would be fixed on higher trim packages. Rear seats were comfortable and shockingly roomy for a compact car. This was my first CVT experience, and it changed my mind about this type of transmission in a commuter car application. It's quite unobtrusive, save for the occasional instance where it hits a few different ratios on the highway before finding one it's comfortable with. It's not a fast car by any means, but there's adequate enough power to get back and forth to work. Ride quality is composed, if a bit floaty at high speeds on the highway. Gas mileage has been phenomenal. I've averaged around 37 mpg commuting to work, mostly highway at 75-80mph, but I've gotten up to 44.6mpg going a bit slower and not having to pull out to pass anyone. Overall, I'd give a 4/5 mostly because of the drivers seat not having enough adjustability, but this issue could easily be rectified on a higher trim package. I'd happily drive this car back and forth on work.

The Good: Pretty nice looking car inside and out and the seats are comfortable enough but that’s about as much good as I can say The ‘not so good’: Performance - both the fuel economy and acceleration are underwhelming. I have a very light foot when driving and I struggle to get 25 mpg in the city with the A/C off. If I turn on the A/C I usually see 22-23 mpg; just not good enough for what this car is supposed to be. This is made to be a bigger issue when you consider how sluggish this car is. It’s understandable if you sacrifice fuel economy for performance or the other way around but in this case you get neither. The straight up bad: safety tech. It’s seriously awesome that Nissan includes so much safety tech even with the base model the issue is it doesn’t work often. Almost daily I get false emergency brake warnings and at times the car will automatically apply the breaks even with literally no car or object in front of the vehicle for miles. Also I’m constantly getting error messages from the blind spot monitor and it says the monitor is unavailable for use. Lastly, apple carplay is hit or miss. Constantly restarts on its own or sometimes just refuses to work. I have to completely turn off the vehicle, lock it, then start it back up to get it to work. Same with the radio. Looking to get rid of the car as soon as prices come back down. Update: nothing positive to add. The blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert stopped working a little after a year of owning the car luckily the car was still under warranty but I can’t imagine the head ache the car will be when the warranty runs out. Needless to say we have since gotten rid of the car.

2021 Nissan Sentra Issues

Bought new 2021 Sentra in June. Yesterday went to start it and it says key fob not found when it was right on the start button. Then the battery immediately started to drain. Couldn't get the car in neutral to jump it so had to have someone come out and jump it. After jump says engine malfunction, service now, Power reduced. Had it towed this morning to dealership who cant see it until Thursday and no rentals available. Irritating on a new car. Also I couldn't find a spot to stick the actual key into which is on other years.

The cars have tie rod issues that aren’t safe to be on the road and Nissan knows about the issue but won’t take responsibility for it and the passenger seatbelt is no good and doesn’t protect you during a accident if you have one don’t drive the car until fixed

Engineering Failure

David Golden, 05/16/2024
2021 Nissan Sentra SR 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl CVT)
1 of 3 people found this review helpful

This little car has great creature comforts for the price and is a comfortable city car. But the engineering behind the CVT transmission is a failure. When using cruise control, the car compensates for a lack of engine braking by applying the brake. I believe this sends the wrong signal to drivers behind me so I don’t feel confident using cruise control. For that reason and other tech issues like Apple car play, the car receives low marks

FUEL TANK! EMERGENCY BRAKE!

Saleh alsayaad , 01/05/2024

So far, my 2021 Sentra SV is remarkable. I Love everything about it except two things: 1. Fuel tank capacity is really low! Like I had a 2018 chevy sonic hatch that could contain more than the Sentra! Considering the size comparison, it's just ridiculous! 2. Emergency brake (front) is too sudden and sometimes unnecessary. Like approaching a road bump behind another car was never so scary as it is now! Also you can't turn it off permanently as it keeps getting back as soon as you stop/start your engine again!
