The Real Poop On the 2013 Sentra SR

I'll get right to my point. I just purchased a 2013 Sentra SR. Originally looking at Optima, Sonata, Altima and Accord. Optima and Sonata don't come with spare tires?? Ruled out. I liked the Altima better to drive but ruled it our due to additional cost and size (fitting in my garage). The Accord was just too boring. I am a retired Toyota Salesperson. I have driven most cars in this category at one time or another. Was introduced to the Sentra by a neighbor. Read every road test and drove a demo 3 times. Every professional criticized the car for noise and acceleration. In a 0-60 mph race the Sentra beat the Corolla and Civic. The performance is about the same as the Corolla. This car was a lease. Turned it in Feb. 2015 and leased the same car with similar options. After owning the 2013 for nearly 3 years it proved to be trouble free. The only problem encountered was related to a recall that recalibrated the transmission. Never ran the same or as good. My new 2015 is a better performing car. The mating of the engine and transmission response is far improved. Slightly better ride. Outstanding quality control in the build.

Transmission got broken when my wife traveling to CA, the dealer on Tracy CA, and only one on the area spend weeks to get it fix. After several months we sent the car tot Tulsa OK to be used by my son at college; the car presented some noise getting worse with time. When taking the car to the leader it was determine by the dealer that it was a result of an error performed during the transmission replacement. The technician left a bolt loose or too tight stripping the bolt and causing a possible safety issue. The dealer kept the car for 10 days on a "waiting for parts status" after these ten days and calling and pushing the dealer for the repair od the vehicle. We were notified that the dealer at CA denied our claim and there is nothing they can do. I contacted Nissan directly and tried to get them to honor the extended warranty and their response was. Nothing that they can do, that the dealers are "independent" of Nissan and I should deal directly with the dealer at Tracy CA. Nissan is not being accountable for the bad performance or training of their technician or services provided by their dealers. Sure they will push you to utilize their services as for warranty requirements, but they are not willing to cover for their mistakes. Now I was required to sign to take my vehicle back and release them for any responsibility because now it is a safety issue. If you are expecting that you will have a NATIONAL service form Nissan you are wrong and you are left alone to be the victim of a poor service and quality of their products. Save the time and lets switch TOYOTA, at least they are honoring every service and job performed on my Toyota Tundra; what a difference on service and quality ! Never NISSAN ! 2019 Update I got the car fixed and got ride of it as soon as possible.... Please use of my experience and stay away of the NISSAN products. We are the customers and we have the power to change the quality of the services and products we pay. Always keep in mind that when a customer pays for a product we are not just paying for the car, we pay for the quality and service of the car! Nissan shall understand that they should offer the same services as they demand the excellence of the quality and service form their suppliers. It is too bad that they do not apply such quality polices to their customers. NEVER NISSAN!

My 2013 Nissan Sentra has been to the dealer over twelve times for the CVT Transmission. Nissan will just give you the runaround ,I will use the Lemon Law on Nissan. 12/10/2017 Update Nissan was order by a Judge to buy back the 2013 Sentra under CA Lemon Law.

Ive owned alot of clunkers. Most cars i have driven were 200,000 miles plus. Well i always like to rent a car on vacation and this was the one for grabs. On the trip the ride was smooth, no gears meant a smooth ride on the interstate. Its always adjusting. Usually in a 4 cylinder i would be at 3000 rpm on the interstate at 70. The sentra likes to hover around 1800-2000 the noise is great. I can turn down my radio amd hear myself think. Torque city driving is not sp great. The added a sport mode features which basically makes the travel distance of the pedal shorter. Faster reaction etc. its a great commuter car. Interior is easy to keep clean, i have black cloth so it can be shampood easier. Give it that new car smell every 9 months. I guess you could say i liked the car so much, i found the exact same model and color and bought it. People dont like the acceleration . Its similar to a 4 wheeler, hit the throttle and go. I drove rx7s in the past, very similar . Interstate or highway, good acceleration. I just drove it from louisiana to delaware last week which is why i am writing this review. I bought this car preowned and certified by nissan. It has been the best investment. Gas mileage is fantastic. I dont know why peoples transmissions are burning up. If you hit the gas hard it will stay in the higher rpms. If you have a heavy foot i reccomend another. This is purely a small car, low hp. Cvt will never allow it to be anything more. Strictly for commuting and gas mileage without being in a tin can * (update 10-19-2017, still going strong. I thought I was having trouble with the transmission maybe at 70000 miles... it was the taillight.... moisture got into the led rear taillight and caused a short. Messes up the sensors, got one on rock auto easy fix. At 100% again, I will keep this one until the wheels fall off). October 2020, running strong! Mass airflow sensor dudded out but at 100000 miles, it's expected. She still runs like new. Update May 2021, still running extremely strong. A few sets of tires, still on factory brakes. No shaky, no shimmy, transmission works perfect. Had two people back into car over the years, just a few scratches, no dents left. Im overall shocked, because I had expected something to go wrong by now. Edit: 12/8/2021 how in gods name am I still on factory brakes. all is well.
