Needed new transmission 4 days off the lot!

11 of 16 people found this review helpful

Hi everyone. Bought my 2015 Murano just over 5 mths ago and already had my transmission replaced. Four days after driving it off the lot I knew something was wrong. Took it back to the dealer twice and was told 'it's just the tires settling in'. After the the car started to shudder even more when I accelerated and I felt like I was constantly driving on cobblestones, I took it back a third time and was told my transmission needed to be replaced...at just 3k miles! It's now been a month since it was replaced and my car is already behaving like the transmission was never replaced. The rpm's suddenly increase even though my speed is constant, the car accelerates unexpectedly, and I feel very unsafe driving it, especially when my 4yo son is in the car. Not happy with this purchase. I don't think getting the trasmission replaced again is going to help.

Love this ride but design flaws irritating

Hood design reflects sun directly into driver's eyes. Silver trim on dash A/C vents reflects in windows on both doors preventing you from using outside mirrors on Both sides of vehicle without annoying distortion. The 2016 and 2017 versions of this vehicle contain the same flaws which only tells me that Nissan doesn't really care about safety what else have they done that you can't see that compromises safety that's what worries me the most. Side posts finished with hard surface, unused seat belts rattle. Engineering and Design integration lacking on this vehicle. Had my test drives revealed these design flaws I would NEVER have bought this car. There have been three recalls on vehicle in one year, one major! No apparent changes to fix these flaws still in the 2017 models.

Gas Mileage SUCKS

Gandee, 11/27/2015
2015 Nissan Murano SV 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl CVT)
7 of 10 people found this review helpful

Window sticker says 21 town/ 28 Highway.... yet to see any of that!! I DON't drive heavy footed, I drive 70% city/ 30% Hwy and at best get 17.6 in town and 21.8 on hwy. Very disappointing for sure. I was told by the dealership to give it 3000-5000 miles to break itself in and I would see better gas mileage. My neighbor that is a mechanic also said the same. I now have 900 miles on it so we will see! If I don't get better in the long run I will be so upset. The Manufactures should be held responsible and accountable for the numbers they place on the window stickers. Hyyundai had a class action suit and has to pay their car owners a refund. Every time their car owners get their oil changes they document the mileage and pay them like 2 cents per mile driven and cut them a check.. To bad they have to go through all that, but Nissan ought to take notice of that possibility ! If I would have known the real gas mileage I would be getting, I might have made a different brand selection. Other than that I love the car.. Smooth, responsive, and quiet. I put on the cross bars on my luggage rack and there is a terrific wind whistle that comes from them. Called service dept. and they said that was to be expected. So I will take them off till I need to put them on for long distance trips with my cargo carrier. Another negative would be it has some pretty significant blind spots in the rear side windows. Some one with a bad neck that doesn't turn well will find this a problem for sure. I'm trying to figure out a remedy for this. Cant speak to its reliability since I haven't owned it long enough!!

The 2015 Murano is a complete redesign, and the results is the best vehicle I have ever driven. Nissan gets an A grade for both design, and performance.

I still love my Murano! All the controls are so simple and logical. It’s perfect for me. I often actually use it like a truck, hauling materials, trash and debris (I have a rubber mat in the back). I am disappointed that the seat heater and air on the drivers side has stopped working and the dealer said it would be major to repair as they checked all the simple solutions. Otherwise. Normal repairs and maintenance.

Great SUV If You Don't Mind Chronic Moonroof Leaks

Overall, loved my Nissan Murano Platinum AWD. Nice looks, great and comfortable ride, nice acceleration, plenty of storage. What more can I say? Well, I had it for 3-1/2 years. After the first year or so, it developed a leak in the moonroof/sunroof. At first during heavy rain, then afterwards during any rain, the front passenger carpet would be soaked. Not damp, but soaked. The dealer not only could not do anything to repair the problem, but did not seem to care. We knew the manager and even he would not return a call. The car was brought in roughly 12 times. They said it was fixed but it was not. I got Nissan Corporate into the mix and they were absolutely clueless and useless. They suggested a "purchase back" option where Nissan would buy the vehicle back. When I finally decided to do that, they denied it. So my wife and I traded it in for an Acura. Bottom line: we will never, ever buy a car from the same dealership and never, ever buy another Nissan. Bad, not poor, but Bad service and support. By the way, many other problems, like needing new brakes before 20,000 miles. Plenty of other nagging problems and defects. Got an umbrella and don't mind getting wet? Then go Murano.

Huge Blind Spots

The car is beautiful and has a great ride. The only problem we have found is that there are large blind spots over the back wheel wells, especially on the passenger side. Short of moving the side mirrors every time a lane change was needed, I don't know how anyone could be assured that no one is beside them.

Thinking of buying 2016 Murano platinum

I have 2 concerns: 1) The sun glare from the hood, has anyone have the dealer add matte finish (or anything else) added to help with the glare? 2) Is the rear vision a huge problem from the design? Deciding between the Murano Nissan or Ford Edge Thanks!!!

Best in it's class

I'm really not sure why this isn't considered a luxury SUV. It has all the bells and whistles as Lexus, Mercedes, and BMW, which are all very much overrated. I drove the Mercedes GLK and the Audi Q7 before purchasing this vehicle and it was clearly the winner in my opinion. I just could not see what the Mercedes did that the Murano didn't, besides the obvious name Mercedes. The Murano Platinum is overloaded with features. My personal favorite is that it's turbo charged, so I have no problem getting in and out of traffic when I need too. The "futuristic" look is just stunning. The interior is looks like that of a super luxury car and the big 20 inch tires makes it sit up higher and looks "buff". I love it!

Intelligent cruise control is a misnomer

Ken, 11/28/2016

The intelligent cruise control that Nissan has on a 2015 Murano shuts down with the slightest bit of snow in the air rendering the cruise control option to be worthless. I've asked the dealer and consumer affairs to look into this issue and I'm told that there's nothing that can be done even though Infinity cab disable the cruise at the controls on the steering wheel. If you drive long distances and like to use cruise control DO NOT BUY THIS OPTION.

Bought the 2016 Murano thinking i would get the 21+mpg advertised. Four months later my Murano is only getting 17.5mpg. I am not an aggressive driver and also got better gas milage in my other vehicles than advertised. Very disappointed with the gas milage. If bad milage continues i will be looking forward to selling the Murano. First time with a Nissan and my last.

I have 60,000 miles on this vehicle and other than oil changes, a set of tires recently, and a battery, I have spent nothing on this vehicle. I have a light beige leather and was a little afraid of how the interior would hold up. I regularly clean and condition the leather. The whole interior still looks new. Very comfortable ride, good pickup, love the styling, excellent fuel economy. Couldn't be happier with this vehicle so far. I have AWD and it has excellent traction in the snow. Whenever we take a long trip, we take the Murano because of comfort and economy. My Wife won't let me get her a new car, she loves the Murano so much. And thank you Nissan for not restyling everything every 2-3 years. Mine still looks like a new one.

I owned a Murano when they first came out in 2003. I loved it and had it for 7 years. I had to get a different car because the dynamics of my family changed and we wouldn't fit. I loved how it handled in the snow, the looks, and the huge space in the back seat for growing teenagers. Our family is now dwindling in size due to kids growing up and moving on. I have been waiting 8 years for my opportunity to get another Murano and I finally got one. I love this one even more than the first one! It is smooth riding, very well put together, and love all of the new gadgets and the new body style. My mother in law has a Lexus SUV and I love my Murano much better than even her SUV. I can't say enough about it!!!❤️❤️❤️

Intermittent entertainment failure. Videotaped failure in two occasions and took it in to shop on a third time. Shop said the failure would not be reproducable on Nissan bench so they would not warranty the part. At 36,600 miles the automatic lift gate quit working. No longer in warranty. Tow limit of 1,500 lbs makes it almost unusable as a tow vehicle.

After buying new and owning this 2015 Platinum AWD for over 6 years, I have been looking, but haven't seen any offerings at this price point or by the higher priced luxury brands that made me want to trade this car. Nissan Connect software in my 2015 edition has a few bugs, but essential things work well. We've taken cross-country road trips, and space and comfort for travel cannot be beat by more expensive cars. This is my second Murano.

DON"T BUY THIS CAR

Wells, 02/02/2016

I purchased the Nissan Murano Platinum edition in March, 2014. Prior to this, I owned a 1998 Nissan Maxima, 2004 Nissan Maxima and a 2012 QX 56 Infinity. When my lease on the Infinity ended, I got the Murano in 2014. In Jan, 2016, with only 10 months of owning the car and with 10,000 miles it left me stranded on the Interstate. While driving 65 miles an hour in the center lane of the freeway the car would no longer accelerate. At first I thought I might have accidently hit the gear shift and it was in neutral. IT WASN'T. The stretch of rode where this happened was under construction and there was barely a shoulder for me to move over on. Since the car would not go into gear, I was stopped partially on the highway and partially on the small shoulder with cars traveling 65+ miles an hour. I contacted the dealership Immediately, CLEAR LAKE NISSAN and told them where I was and what happened and that I was scared I was going to be killed given where I was and that I could not move myself or the car. They sent someone to pick me up from the vehicle that I had to climb out of from the passenger side b/c I could not open the car doors. The car was towed to NISSAN and I was informed the next day that I needed a new transmission. YES A BRAND NEW CAR LESS THAN A YEAR OLD THAT I BOUGHT OFF OF THEIR SHOWROOM FLOOR NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I explained to them that this was my fourth NISSAN and that the car was clearly faulty. I have small children and thank GOD they were not in the vehicle with me when this occurred. I told them I did not want this vehicle since the car was clearly unsafe. I contacted the dealership to talk with the General Manager of CLEAR LAKE NISSAN who never returned my phone call. I filed a formal complaint with NISSAN and told them to initiate they buy back program or do whatever they had to do I did not want the car any longer. They contacted me after 7 days of having my car and said it was fixed to come and get it. I asked the Service Mgr did you test drive the car to ensure the transmission is working and that there are no check engine lights on etc. I was advised that no they did not. They order a transmission already put together and put it in the vehicle and that's it. So I stated it could still be faulty and they said yes. Nissan Consumer Affairs contacted me and told me they would be willing to make one payment on the vehicle but that is it. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and AVOID THE HEADACHES - DON"T BUY NISSAN

Beware of Pearl White Paint it is Defective!

John Glantz, 02/06/2017
2015 Nissan Murano Platinum 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl CVT)
3 of 4 people found this review helpful

The Pearl White front and rear panels plus rear view mirror covers are made of plastic and the colors do not match the metal. This happens on all pearl white Nissans. Nissan corp. agrees that the plastic panel colors do not match the metal, but that this is a normal defect. Thus, because they feel the paint mismatch is normal, their policy is to not cover the problem even if under warranty. What is worse is that with age these panels will fade/yellow more every year. My Nissan dealer stated they would not repaint as it is difficult to match the 3 coat pearl white paint on plastic and, even if painted, the yellow will return. Check it out at your local dealer, walk around and count the number of pearl white cars at $40,000 with yellow plastic panels front and rear.

I have a 2016 Murano Platinum V6 engine I love my Murano, I had a Jeep which I was glad to trade in. I love the V6 and all the extras like the cameras. The one thing I wish they would fixed is sometimes the bluetooth doesn't always work, when you are on a call and what to get out and then you get back in it will tell you your phone is in use when you're off your call, and you can't connect.

Very disappointed in my 2015 Marano!

I have had my 2015 Marano for about 10 months and have nearly 10,000 miles on it. The ride is fine and the vehicle has been reliable. My complaints are the VERY overdone technology (instrumentation). It is way too cluttered and complicated. My salesperson didn't even know how to operate the various screens! Do I really need to have coffee cups and snow flakes appearing on the instrumentation? Took me an hour of reading the manual to figure out what this meant and then only to discover it was totally unimportant anyway. BIG waste of instrumentation! Driver's seat is uncomfortable and almost seems maligned. Very difficult to see out of the rear window. This car has style, but the designers forgot about operational function. This is my first Nissan purchase and very likely my last. Very disappointed!

The Murano is now 4 years old with 55k miles. Still very pleased with it. Only major expense has ben 4 new tires at 52k, so yeah 5 stars overall. I've had the Murano for over a year. Still very pleased with it and can now say the Reliability has been worthy of 5 stars. The Value is also 5 stars. I've only had the car a short time so I can't evaluate Value and Reliability. Performance isn't top notch, but I feel confident when driving on highway and it certainly keeps pace with ease. Braking is very good, handling is good for such a tall vehicle. Steering is good, not direct like a performance car, but confident. The 20"wheels certainly adds to a high quality ride. The inside is roomy and very comfortable. Controls and instruments are nicely laid out, easy to read and operate. The Platinum trim level I purchased is worth the price, giving you the looks, feel and options equal to higher priced luxury brands. I have another Nissan and had a expensive Germany import; the Nissan requires less maintenance at a reasonable cost - have you ever been billed $300.00 for an oil change and scheduled service?

I have the car for about a year and a half. I have about 10k miles on it. I like the car except its HORRIBLE gas mileage. Yes Nissan needs to be held accountable for this. I also had my radio/camera system crap out. Luckily under warranty. According to the dealership the repair would have costed thousands to repair.

Upgrading from 2011 Murano LE to 2015 Not For Me!

Patrick Woodard, 10/09/2015
2015 Nissan Murano Platinum 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl CVT)

Have owned a 2011 Murano LE since new and have really enjoyed the car. Went out today planning to replace it with anew 2015 Murano which would be called the "Platinum" style. Two issues with the 2011 have bothered us but felt they would be overcome by new designs. My wife is short (5'1") and the passenger seat sits too low for her comfort and the 2011 seat is not adjustable up and down. The other problem is road noise which takes us to nearly shouting for a conversation at Interstate highway speeds. We found today in test driving that one, Nissan does not offer an 8-way passenger seat period, while competitors Acura, Lexus, VW Taureg, and even Lincoln include them as standard. Road noise has been very much improved however. Another disappointment was that Nissan has abandoned rain-sensing Automatic windshield wipers which I depend on. Here again nearly every competitor has them at least as an option if not standard. Many aspects of the Murano for 2015 are amazing especially the electronics, but not enough to overcome these disappointments. I point these factors out not to diminish the great cars Nissan builds but to expose some of the features missing that mean more to me than items like electric rear seat operators.

No point in buying this car as the service department and company have no ability to fix the high tech stuff they have in the car. Like all computers they do not always work correctly. The blind site located on the support post instead of on the mirror is a seriously flawed design. You must move you eyes to see it so no longer see what is in the mirror. The connection electronic in the tiny/slim compartment can only be used by a woman with small hands. Turning ratio of the car is the terrible. Have to swing too wide to make many turns !!!

Transmission leak after 7 years very costly repair

Beautiful design but several glitches and so far one major repair. The sunroof always had opening/closing issues from start and needs to constantly be reset. EVAP sensors went out after 7 years and big transmission leak cost over $2500 in repairs. I've owned several Nissans and will ever buy one again.

Update...Had one issue and part was replaced...warranty covered. Every new model will have its quirks that needs to be figured out. 18 months in and still love it!!! I traded in my 2009 Mazda 6 GT which I loved! But after purchasing this car, I am more than happy! Comfortable, smooth ride, great safety features, awesome technology... Easy to understand, Panoramic roof, auto lift gate and so much more! I have the 2015 Murano SL in orange with mocha brown leather. Dont know about reliability yet since it is very early on. Car feels solid! Put this on your list to test drive! Feels like a $50,000 car! Update...had an issue a while back when it was sort of bucking but went in and got it fixed in two days and back to normal. Still, no car is perfect. warranty work was done so no out of pocket. This car is so nice inside in comparison to most. Luxurious! Still love it!

Former Nissan Hater

Mark Kellogg, 06/21/2022

Up until this car, I’ve been a very passionate hater of nissans. Some of the reasons why, I still agree with. Their brand has trouble being innovative while claiming their slogan as “leading innovation,” and keeps cars around for 10+ years without updates, and usually can’t keep their reliability up to the level of toyota and honda. Well. This car now has 155k miles and has had 0 major issues. It starts right up, and runs great. The interior feels much nicer than competitors, especially that of hyundai or kia, and even at the absolute base model of muranos it feels more upscale than many toyotas and hondas. It handles very well around twisty roads, and actually is somewhat enjoyable to drive. Probably the biggest perk is the feul economy. The CVT transmission is annoying until gas is $6/gallon. It has a way of accelerating easily and without stress, and coasts well. It also gets up a hill better than nearly every car I’ve ever driven, even with 150k+ miles. It just shows no sign of wear and tear. It also is decently powerful—not so much from a standstill, but once you’re going 40 and need to get up to freeway speeds, it’s no slouch. All of this paired with its comfy seats, and lots of possible features on higher trims makes it truly an incredible deal, and a bargain compared to competitors that are less reliable, less fun to drive and get worse feul economy. Another positive element is the fact that it doesn’t have too much cabin noise. Honda and Toyota are infamous in my mind for ensuring that you’ll hear even the slightest noises outside your car, which often make it difficult to hear yourself think. This car seems a lot more graceful, less noise and a smoother ride. Definitely changed my opinion on nissan, and you should absolutely consider it as an option.

Technology Package Design Flaw?

We have had 3 previous Nissans with no issues (Xterra, Pathfinder, Altima). Purchased our 2015 Murano SL in Aug 2018 with 28K miles on it from an independent dealer. It was a Nissan Lease return that was originally sold new 3 years and 1 week before our purchase. Within a couple of days of purchase, the Auto Brake light went off on the dash and neither the auto braking nor the cruise control would operate. Turning the car off reset the light and allowed us to use the features again. We took the car to the Nissan dealership who inspected it and said the engine position sensor on one of the motor mounts was tripping the warning. The sensor is integrated into one of the motor mounts which the dealer said was wearing out and would cost $1100 to replace. The dealer said if we would have brought it in 2 weeks earlier it would have been covered under warranty (of course the car was stilled owned by Nissan Motor Credit at that time). This light only goes off after 20 to 30 minutes of driving, so a standard test drive may not reveal the problem. To make a long story short, I filed a complaint with Nissan USA stating they had a design problem in that the auto braking feature is a safety feature and integrating one of it's sensors into a part that is designed to wear out was a design flaw. After going back and forth with Nissan USA for several weeks, they decided not to assist in the repair or provide a new motor mount and told us we were on our own. The rep at Nissan USA acknowledged this is a known problem. Obviously, I am not happy with Nissan as this sensor should not have been mounted to the motor mount and their motor mounts should last longer than 28K miles. I have not replaced the motor mount as of yet because I feel at some point I feel this model will be recalled. In addition, this will be the last Nissan vehicle I ever own. I will be sticking with other more reliable brands from manufacturers who value my business. On a side note, I rented a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder two months ago while on a business trip and while driving it, the same light went off and the cruise control/auto braking stopped working. I reported it to Avis. The two vehicles use the same drive train. This is not an isolated incident.

I purchased my Murano in June, 2015 and have had it in the shop five (5) times mainly over a faulty heat shield. Another time I took it in was because the Nissan emblem/badge was horribly off sided. Now, that may not be a big deal to anyone else, but it is to me and it should be to Nissan. I am experiencing bag rustling noises on the left driver side of the vehicle - and at times, I hear the same sound on the right side, but only slight. Not sure what this noise is...wind? It's an okay vehicle -- for now. I'll give it a year to see if I feel the same or better unless I've traded it in for something else.

First of all, like the title says, the last Murano handled the corners better and Merlot Red in 2009 to 2012 was the better color to me over the new red (which is now more eye catching to the cops). The ride is a little smoother than before plus there is more cargo space and better air vents for the rear passengers. My main complaints are the shiny black plastics they use now and the fancy new head and tail lights that are harder to keep clean, the speedometer that is no longer in the middle view, the back part of the hood that's now angled toward your view for more annoyance (I don't like to see the hood at all), and the CVT transmission that still doesn't downshift low enough for good passing power. If you have sensitive eyes like mine you might not appreciate these new car interior designs in bright sunlight. My 2012 Murano had some chrome inside which I was able to cover with blackout tape, black rubber with sticky back, or flat black tennis racquet handle covers around the inside door handles but the new cars are just too much of a pain to customize. The worst chrome I've seen in cars so far though are the Fords and Dodge/Chryslers like the new Durango (it even has chrome around the air vents). If sun glare isn't an issue then this new Murano isn't a bad choice for you but for family's of 4 or more it might not be big enough for cargo room on those long vacation trips. Also, unless you're willing to pay for the expensive electronic repairs in these newer cars past the 3 year warranty with all their added safety devices and stereo units (aftermarket's won't work anymore) then leasing would be a better option! Also, the extended warranties are best if the car maker themselves (a little more expensive but have been more reliable) offer it instead of outside contractors which have been known to disappear sometimes before the warranty even expires (and don't always cover every repair anyways)!
