Be careful the CVT transmission

Everything is good except the CVT transmission. Nissan CVT transmission is not a good transmission, if it broke down, you need to pay $4,000 to replace it. And there’s a lot of people saying there’s CVT transmission problems with their Altima. Nissan has a recall for Altima CVT transmission, but not for 2011 model.

I have the 3.5 Liter V-6 and it is a plenty fast enough. The CVT, while reportedly trouble prone, has gone 100,000 miles. Still getting 23-24 in town and 28-29 on the highway. Not bad for a powerful V-6. Bought used with 9,000 miles and just turned 130,000k. Engine light came on at 80k +. Turned out to be a "Mass Air Flow Sensor" that set me back over $400.00. Then after replacing the tires picked up a bad hum which turned out to be the wheel bearings, another expensive repair. Routine items included an air filter, battery, cabin filter, tires and regular oil changes. I replaced the Michelin A/S tires with Coopers. The Dealer and Nissan never seem to agree on what is covered by the extended warranty. So when the wheel bearings went bad, I had to pay for repairs myself. Not only did the dealer contradict Nissan corporate but were not even very nice about it.( And they wonder why they lose business to independent shops.)

***Update*** My Altima now has 125,000 miles on it, and still have NO issues at all! Unfortunately someone hit my car pretty badly, at the speed they were going, I was impressed with how well my car handled itself and we were all safe. So I might have to part with it soon. No question I will get another Nissan! This is my 2nd Altima, which I purchased after my 2002 Altima starting costing me more money with repairs at ~130,000 miles. I bought it from a dealer with 32k miles on it, and it had previously been a rental car. I've got about 85,000 miles on it and have owned it for 3 1/2 years. It's required ONLY routine maintenance - changed the oil regularly, new brakes, new tires, etc. I love how roomy it is, the trunk is huge and plenty of space for driver and passengers. It handles well in the snow and rain. I drove it in upstate NY for a couple years with all-season tires and never got stuck. I've taken it on a few long road trips, and the seats can be a little uncomfortable after awhile (but what car isn't a little uncomfortable after 8+ hours!). I'm planning to keep this car for a few more years and then maybe move on to my 3rd Altima.

Best Altima I’ve owned!

This car is more comfortable than the new VW Passat. Seats are comfortable. Even without power seats, I can easily adjust the seat. There are no blind spots, either. The privacy glass is wonderful! Without the tint the car gets quite hot in the summer, which must be due to the large windshield. Gas mileage is good for an older car (2011 model; it’s 2018) I average 24-26 MPH. The steering is responsive and easy. The car still shifts like it is new. I do use the manual mode, as well. It works with no problems at all. After considering a new car purchase, I decided not to buy a new car. Any technology it may lack is made up for with easy to use, inexpensive after-market parts. I use a Bluetooth adapter in my radio. Simply put, with 134,000 miles, this car is the most reliable I have owned. Updated: the interior cloth- which is present on the handle/door- shows wear more than any other area. The newer models replace the cloth with plastic which was a great move. Update: only major repairs have been A/C (no surprise there) and a suspension issue which both were covered under my extended warranty (purchased through CarMax). Other than regular maintenance, no issues!

I love my new 2011 Nissan 2.5s Sedan. The only thing I'm upset about is the engine makes somewhat of an ugly noise, however, it goes away once the CTV engine 'warms up'. I don't get 23 MPG, I get about 20 city, still haven't put it on a highway yet. Having said that, it really is a clean looking, nice car for the money. More importantly, I think the look will last, while other models will look odd in years to come, like the Sonata. I did test drive other cars, including Camry and Accord. Neither of them were as nice to drive as the Altima. Furthermore, neither had the handling and 'sporty' look and feel of the Altima. All in all, the Altima is a great choice and a good car.
