EVO-light
The lancer ES CVT is an EVO look-alike with average capabilities. It comes with almost everything you need for the daily commute and has some room for the occasional spirited driving. The limited trunk space gives room for 3 laundry baskets. Rear seat room is decent. Car feels heavier, yet agile and nimble. Responsive engine sounds good, but CVT is loud and leaves you wanting/wishing for more. Acceleration is average. Handling and suspension is above average: light and neutral with quick turn-in. Understeer can be dangerous when entering corners too fast. Fuel economy is average, combined 30mpg +/-2.
Loved at first...
I bought my 2011 Lancer in 2012,and it now has 13,000 miles on it. I loved the car at first..The CVT takes some time to get used to, makes some interesting noises and lacks the power I would have liked. 3 months after getting the car, I started having issues with the car not starting. It would try and turn over and after about 3 tries, it finally would start..barely. I took it to the dealership and they said they couldn't help since it wouldn't do it while there. Around the same time as the starting issues happened, the car started to make a creaking noise when turning into parking spaces, streets, etc. Took it to the dealership and they told me the same thing. I am looking for a new car.
Two Mitsubishi family.
My wife and I just purchased our second 2011 Lancer GTS on August 5, 2011. The 1st was hers and has all the goodies in the Touring and Chrome packages. Mine just has ALL the standard features of the GTS. Mine is Rallye Red with black cloth interior. It has everything I want in a car without add-ons I do not like. Very comfortable riding car, lots of interior room, I am 6'2" and have more than enough room in ALL of the seats.
Great and fun car!
The Mitsubishi Lancer is a great car. I purchased my first Lancer back in 2008. An SE model with the CVT transmission. Almost 5 years later the car hasn't given me any problems. It has been extremely reliable. My wife now has that car and I just purchased a brand new 2013 Lancer GT with manual transmission. This car has a bigger engine (2.4 liters vs. the 2.0 on the SE). The car feels very powerful and agile for a 4 cylinder car. I see built quality improvements specially on the interior: dash, door panels and seats. The Lancer looks sharp and the design hasn't aged.
Get a Subaru
I got the AWD version for winters where I live. Awful vehicle, both for reliability and being that it needs specific parts that not even Mitsubishi has in stock. The car burns oil like spreading napalm, the suspension rides rough. Parts for the vehicle differ from all other trim levels, so they're always scarce, difficult to find and more expensive due to that. I've seen phone lights that illuminate better than the cars headlights. Sure the AWD is good but any Subaru is better. Interior parts such as dials and switches are poorly made and break easily. The CVT Transmission is a whole other piece a garbage. Scotty from Youtube says Mitsubishis are cheap Toyotas, and I must agree with him at this point, except they aren't just cheap they simply are worse in reliability and quality. Take it from a component person in auto mechanics- I spent more fixing the cars issues than the worth of the vehicle. Save yourself some heartache and money and just go ahead and buy anything else. I had a 94 rust bucket explorer that was better in 2016.
