Awesome Bang for the Buck
Awesome Bang for the Buck! With just over 70,000 it's been nothing but a pleasure cruise.
They keep building them
As another person mentioned, this car is a sleeper. The 210hp 4.6L V8 with SOHC provides very good performance while giving surprisely good gas mileage. I get 30 mpg Imperial (Canada) driving at over 60mph or 100kmph. This engine is designed for fuel efficiency while being powerful enough at .75 hp per cubic inch. The car is designed for comfort, which is why I like the arm rests instead of a storage bin. If you want a storage bin, buy an after market product for the transmission hump. Yes, the power windows are slow and you wish they would go faster when you are in a hurry, but that's not a deal breaker. You can still buy a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis.
Disappointed, My Last Marquis
I used to recommend these cars to people but not anymore. I have owned a 92 Town Car for years, been a fantastic car. In 2019 I bought a 1998 Grand Marquis with 102K miles (figured it is basically a Lincoln Town Car) and it was dependable like my Lincoln. Ended up giving this Grand Marquis to a family member who needed a better car. When I found a 2001 Grand Marquis LS for sale with 78k miles, I bought it instantly figuring it would be as good as the last one, but was I wrong. I have over $5,000 in this car all together. Ball joints were totally seized, no big deal, replaced those and had it aligned. At 79,000 miles the rear end started howling, changed the fluid and helped nothing. It's annoying to drive on the interstate like that. The trunk is full of water, power windows up and stopped working. Power mirrors won't move in or out but will move up and down. Car has many rattles up front, fender liner and air baffles in the bumper just hanging under the car. It also misses bad going up a grade. The car typically stalls when I put it in gear but always restarts. Computer has no codes to give me an idea of what is wrong. Digital display is so dim you can barely see it during the day. The drivers door has to be slammed shut as the hinge pin bushings need replaced. The "low washer fluid" light is always on and constantly beeps even though the reservoir is full. Speakers crackle. The radio volume knob malfunctions. Turn the volume down and it occasionally turns it up instead. Interior pieces and broken and falling off. Some dash lights don't work. Exterior lights come on by themselves during the day (even though the delayed headlights are shut off.) I've only had the car a month and its constant repairs. I may have just gotten a bad one but my best suggestion is to thoroughly test drive, check over one of these cars if you plan on buying one. Car does ride good, roomy interior and trunk. This is my last one. I'm going back to GM.

Can't see
Great Car, but I can't see where I'm going at night. The headlight beams are so scattered that they don't reach very far down the road. My old truck with sealed beams has better lights! Otherwise, the car runs and drives great. Having been a Japanese car mechanic for 20 years, I can honestly say that the overall fit and finish, mechanical quality and performance of this car is more than a match even for more expensive imports. My family needed a bigger car, and all it took was one test drive to sell me on this one.
Grand Marquis
I owned a 1997, 1999 and 2001 Grand Marquis Ulitma and today 10/13/02 purchased a new 2003 Ultima. So this should attest to my experience with this automoble.Total milage 1997-2001 models 244000 miles.
