Only one major headache. odo
I LOVE my "new to me" 1994 Mercury GM LS. This is my second Mercury, my first was a 1957. Over the years I have owned over 40 new or used vehicles of every kind, from BMW to Saturn, from car to truck, and this is the best driving of them all. In my family when a car rides nice and smooth we say " it rides like a Greyhound bus" and WOW, does this baby. The only real problem I have had with this car is that the odometer and trip counters stopped working giving me no choice but too change the oil by date alone, wich I would rather not have to only rely. I do not know the exact milage on mine, but it is not over 51,000 and it runs like a new car. Only change, the cassete player had to go
What a great car!
I would have never bought this car, axcept my Father, said, I am going to pick out your car, since you pick out all lemons as of lately. He pointed out the car lot, and showed me the Mercury Gand Marquis LS, said try the ones you are interested in, then take the one I am pointing out to you. I tried the Ford Explorer, lousy in snow and ice uphill, The chevrolet cavalier, wasnt all that great either, the Grand Marquis not only went through ice and snow, it went all the way up the hill. Wow.
Good car but sometimes expensive to fix
I have owned this car for 3 years. The problems i have encountered so far: - new brake lines (rotted at 88k) $300 -steering gearbox seal (102k) $90 -pitman arm and idler arm -tie rod and tie rod end (common) -lower balljoint on driver side (VERY COMMON) -muffler hangers ($20) - new headlight lens(peeling) very common -egr valve gives code, can't get valve out, in tight space ($300 to replace at mechanic) The above problems i have encountered was mostly wear and tear and things that DIDN'T go while the car was driving it. I haven't had any problems other than maintanance items that keep the car going. I have enjoyed driving the car and recommend highly!
Best vehicle I have ever owned
266,000 miles throughout America and still going. It is such a great driving, comfortable, great milage car that we bought a second one. Got 31 mpg average on Interstate driving. With american built parts anyone can service it. A new Mazda that tried to demolish it last year by driving into it was totaled. The Marquis? Dinged on the right side, drivable. Highly recommend this car if you have kids or if you don't want to be injured in an accident. This car needs a tune up every 300,000 miles with its titanium engine, platinum plugs and gold wires. Don't think, just buy one!
still going strong
190,000 and have only ever replaced battery and master cylinder. Have gotten as much as 28 MPG on trips. Rear seal leaks now but this is by far the most reliable car I have ever had.
Runs like new
I fell in love with my dads '85 Gran Marquis and wanted one ever since. Although I bought my '95 car used a couple years ago with 81,000 miles on it, it runs like a dream. I did have to have the trans rebuilt but it is a small investment to a car that is otherwise mechanically sound. I haven't had a problem with it since. With regular maintenance and oil changes, the car more than serves me well. I love it!!
Best and worst of a V.G. Car
Mechanically, best i've had! With regular oil changes and required periodic service, it has never been any problem. Bad is the elcectric window system! Absolute pits!. Changed each regulator at least twice, some 4 times (overall total 11 times!) Automatic door/window control panel went bad when i decided to get rid of the car. One other plus: mileage over 24mpg highway, (when originally bought, over 26)! This, to me was quite remarkable for V8, 5lt engine. Body had polyglycote coating and required no cleaning and stayed good with an occasioal wash. Original mileage was 19300; at sale was 83500 w/original battery installed! &, this was, without a doubt, the quickest starting car ever owned!
Great car!
This is my first car and I'm glad that I chose this to be my first car. The dealership I bought it from marked the price up higher than it should be. But the car itself is a great car!! Very roomy, comfortable for long or short drives. Great trunk space, a/c and heater works great, rides smooth. And when I go over speed bumps or ditches, I hardly notice them. Had a bit of transmission problem with it, but now that I got that fixed, it runs like a CHAMP!
Need another one
Bought this car for the wife. We pack it full and often with kids and luggage for long road trips. Wonderful highway cruiser, power aplenty and decent MPG for a large car (~24 highway). Hoping to buy a newer one or possibly a Town Car (my little girl likes the A/C vents in the back seat).
The Mighty Mercs
If you are fortunate enough to find one of these grand old dames that has been well-cared for, HOLD ON TO IT. The plush ride, leather seats, roomy cabin and cavernous trunk makes traveling near and far a pleasure. Ours just saved my husband's life when it was rear-ended by a speeding driver. He escaped with a concussion. The other car was smashed completely. Save for my '65 T-Bird convertible (originally my father's), I have never owned a better, more reliable or beautiful car!

My Car
This is the most reliable car that I have owned.

Loved the car for a while
I bought my Marquis used at 12 years old. It was great for about 2 years and then I had a snowball effect. The brakes I was told were built somewhat of plastic so it would cost me 1000 for a complete brake overhaul, then my catalytic converter just up and died a slow death and I was told since the converter had been welded in it would cost me about $1600 at min to cut it out and get replaced. Overall though it's probably one of the most solid cars around. I truly enjoyed driving it!
Old time American qualities
I purchased this car after evalutating the '96 LeSabre and the '96 Chrysler Concorde. I was hoping to find a '96 Grand Marquis, but this '94 had all of the qualities I was looking for. I really wanted room, lots of room. The Grand Marquis is the roomiest car I looked at. My wife and I use this car to vacation in South Carolina, which we drive from the great lakes region. Round trip mileage is about 2000 miles including our site seeing. We wouldn't want any other car for this. I continue to maintain the car at the dealership where I bought it. It currently has 74000 miles and everything functions perfectly.
Great for driver on tight budget
I purchased this car when I entered graduate school as I needed to drive as cheaply as possible. After two years and approximately 20k miles I traded the car in for a much newer car. I had no real problems with the car other than lower ball joints needing replacement. The car did burn a lot of oil which made me add a quart of oil every 1k miles. For less than $2000, this was the perfect choice for me at the time. Gas mileage of course is poor in the city. Would highly recommend to purchase one of those if its inspected by a mechanic. Power train will last forever.

Best Full Size Car Ever
This car has a very comfortable ride. V8 has ample power and gas milage is respectable. Interior is spacious and very quite.
One my best buys ever!
This was my first Ford product purchase and I could not be happier. I have 136000 miles on the car and have had literally no problems. I still have the original exhaust system on the car. I have taken care of the the car exactly by the book with 3000 mile oil changes and regular maintenance per owners manual. I love it. I am considering a new Grand Marquis but hate to part with this one.
Green Beast
Bought this car for $1000 bucks in 2015 off the side of the road. The windows didn't work or the radio but I has great a/c. I have literally had everything repaired or replaced on the front end that can be replaced and to me it still drives weird. The heater core went out so I had the mechanic bypass it. It cost more to fix than the whole car is worth. The intake was leaking so I did have that fixed. I live in West Georgia so I can drive it in the summer. The speedometer and odometer quit too. Basically anything electric will fail but it starts everyday. My mom actually prefers to drive it over her Lincoln. Why I don't know. I think these are good cars over all but not good electrics. 4/2019. Still have the beast everything is much the same. I stopped driving it for a while because the power steering pump was leaking. I didn't fix it but for some reason it is now not leaking. Doesn't make sense to me. There are still a lot of these on the road. Good spare car.

1994 Mercury Grand Marquis
I got the car used; it's comfortable and quite fast. Cruising is pleasant between 80 and 100 mph. The engine really puts out the power. Plus it's quite roomy inside.
Good car
Purchased car with 88,000 km.Now has 198,000 km.Has required only normal service.Rear air suspenion a great asset.Drivers seat not comfortable.
Great American Sedan
Bought it fully loaded with 107,000 miles for $1,200. The intention was to drive while my wife's 2000 Corolla got its mechanical bugs worked out. After owning this car, I'd rather get rid of my newer vehicles before I get rid of this one. It is flat out a well-built, dependable, comfortable, relaxing car to drive. It is the car we take for any out of town trips, and we keep not because we have to, but because we want to. On the fun to drive rating, this car is not designed to be "fun". It is the most comfortable car I've ever driven, and I arrive relaxed and refreshed.
daddy's favorite
I purchased this car from an elderly woman who had not driven it in over a year prior to my buying it from her. It was in very good condition and required little investment to make it road worthy. This vehicle handles well and is excellent for long road trips. My average 17-18 mpg is more than worth the trade off in comfort, style, and safety. This is definately my favorite car to own so far.
No wonder they never change it
I purchased the car used from a 1 year lease. I have owned it for 9 years and still don't want to sell it. I've gone through 3 other cars and still have the Merc. My sons used it when they started working until they could purchase their own car, and it served well when moving rooms of things to college dorms. A true American Car, BIG and comfortable. A very reliable vehicle. Its like that ole dog to me now, I may keep it until the fruit of my loins inherit it.
Faithful, Comfortable
Purchased used with 107k miles, and this one has every option. I've always wanted Panther platform car, and the deal was too good to pass up. I also own a 2000 Intrepid R/T, but for any road trips, or weekend driving, this one is the one. (The Intrepid is used only for the commute to work). Cheap to own, simple to repair, supremely comfortable and relaxing to drive, it's amazing to me these kinds of cars have fallen out of favor. The "Fun to drive" rating makes an assumption that fun is more important than comfort and arriving related and refreshed. I plan on buying a new LS Ultimate in 2007, but I'll keep this one for a winter/backup car. The Intrepid will not be missed.
Quite happy !!!!
Bought the vehicle used with only 68,000 kms. After fixing tranny shudder (Lubeguard) and bringing the yearly maintanance up to date, vehicle has run flawless.
Survey
I have only had great experiences with this car. It is very reliable and gets many good comments from passerbys.
Can't Bear To Sell It
I bought this car new and it now has almost 199k miles. It has a few electrical problems, but nothing to affect the performance. I love it and keep it shiny and clean. Everyone thinks it's a lot newer car. Every now and then, I think I'll get a new car of another type, but deep down I know I'll get another GM. It's been the best car I've ever had. I love the ride, the trunk space, the roominess inside, and the exterior design. I hope they don't change them too much in the future.
Good old car
I bought this car 3.5 years ago at an auction in Florida. I drove this car in outside sales, and collections. I have had excellent service from this vehicle. Most people do not belive it, but I get at 30 miles to the gallon at 80 to 85 MPH on the highway. I had a 1989 Grand Marquis that I bought in 2002 for $700 and drove for 2 years, so this is my second Grand Marquis in the last five years. I have had such good reliability that I will definitly buy another when I wear this one out. I have 250K miles on my 94, and I plan to get another 100K miles out of this car. Great value for the money.
Great Car
Car was bought to replace 1986 Olds Delta 88. Best car purchase my family has made. Driving experience, ride, reliability and comfort are superior. Remanufactured engine at 141K, and the odometer has stopped working at 211K (approximately a month ago). his car survived 2 years of high school and 4 years of college between my sister and I, and It has only begun to rust on the LF quarter panel within the last 2 years. Mileage is decent for this size and weight of vehicle, and cost to own/operate is minimal. After this experience, I won't even look at lesser trim lines of these vehicles. Dad bought a 2004 Grand Marquis to replace Ford Econoline van due to experience with this car.
Grand Marquis horn & cruise control
This car has been the best vehicle we have ever owned. It is very comfortable to ride in and even now, 7-8 years later, it still rides like a charm. It's a great overall vehicle and I would certainly buy another one.
norm's review
One of the best and trouble free vehicles I have ever owned.
My love of mercurys
This is one of two Mercury LS models I have owned loaded models (ls) They are excellent driving cars and far surpass other models newer and the comfort and safety far out weighs the fuel used.and its cost.
Excellent Vehicle
Excellent handling,comfortable to drive, Econmical,Gararged,One owner,low milage, excellent shape, no leaks,serviced at prescribed intervals,exceptionally clean,leather power seats,blue exterior,white and grey interior,New 88,000 mile mich.tires,no dings or dents.
35 mph
at 35-40 mph when i accelerate the engine halts and then goes on. in 2 and 1 there is no halting. I have been told it is the overdrive torque converter in the transmission. Is that all it is?
1994 Grand Marquis Review
Overall a good car. I bought it used and I haven't had many problems with it. I like the power of the V8 engine even though it does drink down a bit of gas. It is a luxury vehicle and it drives like one.
