My Last American Car
I bought my car right after my divorce, thinking that I needed a reliable car to drive my kids around, boy was I wrong. The car has left me stranded numerous times with my children in the car. I've replaced the alternator twice, tied rod ends, wheel bearing 3 times, the check engine light is always on because of a vacuum leak 5 mechanics haven't been able to find, I can't get it inspected, I've put tires on 4 times and it eats brakes, the radio shorts out and the anti freeze light comes on if the antifreeze goes below max level. I'm considering parking the car because I owe so much money on it I can't trade and can't afford to drive it
Cougars go Roar
I got this car used on October 20 of this year. I haven't had many problems with it, other than my heater core on it is broken and it sometimes leaks transmission fluid. But other than that I love this car. The engine is so much fun to listen to. It's pretty fast for a 2.5 V6. Everything works fine in the car. It has a pretty decent sound system, but I'm looking to put some 12's in it. The only problem is that I drive long distances sometimes and I worry about my engine over-heating with my transmission fluid leaking, but other than that I'm very happy with the performance and stability of this car. And I'm glad it's what I got for my first car.

Horrible mistake
I bought this car with close to 100,000 miles on it, i took it to a mechanic and he said everything was fine, a few months later everything started breaking down, i had to replace all of the strut's and already rebuilt the transmission twice because the gear's would not switch, this car is horrible i wouldnt suggest to get it, it has so many problems that i just junked it.
Sad to see it go
I have had problems with my car since the day i bought it. Timing belt, alternator, transmission (TWICE), paint fading, A/C compressor and clutch, Serpentine belt, vacuum hoses, O2 sensors, fuel filter, battery, and i think there is more just cant remember everything right now, but when it was running good i loved this car! I cant keep putting money into it though time to let her go :(
Love the Coug
I bought this vehicle in 2002, and Overall, I cannot complain. I have had very minimal issues with this car. I did not start putting money into it until the year or so, and even then it hasn't broke my bank account. Repairs have included: brakes, alternator, and new tires. If they were still making these and I wasn't in need of an SUV I would not think twice about getting another one. They are fun to drive, handle nicely, and it has done me well in the Canadian winters.
Little Red Cougar
This is a great car! The V6 is plenty fun although not exceedingly strong. The automatic transmission is smooth and has a great sound. The car gets great gas mileage and is comfortable even on a long trip. Aside from being great looking the hatchback design makes it easy to carry over-size objects. Even with the performance Comp T/A 16 inch tires it is very surefooted in rain, snow and ice. The car is beautiful, fun, economical and reliable. What more is there?
Don't Buy It
Although this car looks great and can be fun to drive, it has many problems. It has had more than 10 recalls in under 3 years. The "premium" radio can't get a channel to stay. The engine, wipers, etc. interupt the reception. The headlights let water leak into them. Infact, the doors and trunk leak. The back seats are very uncomfortable. The doors lock by themselves, requiring one to always keep a spare on their person. Need I say more?
Very pleased with Cougar
This was an eBay car and turned out to be great! I bought it about a year and a half ago, have put 50,000 miles on it (It is now at 110,000) and is still going great. The only major problem was the moonroof was not working(which I knew at the time of purchase) and letting a friend try to fix the moonroof. Driving 75 down the interstate the moonroof lifted from the passenger to the drivers side doing a 180. Nothing wrong with the car, just kinda funny looking back at it. It scared the ... outta me at the time. The reason for this is letting my friend "fix" it. Only other time it was in the shop (less than 1,000 miles ago) was due to an exhaust leak
gotta try it
I have had my Cougar for 5 years now and I have no major complaints. I have had the alternator replaced and some computer problems with the dash, but overall I have been pleased and feel I have gotten my monies worth out of it despite some problems that needed to be fixed.
Worst Mistake EVER!
This car was the worst mistake my father and I could ever make. I should have known better. Its American made! Everything that could go wrong did. My father spent so much money fixing this car its ridiculous. He spent more than the actual cars worth! It has been in and out of our mechanic since Dec 2009, I've had it less than a year and I'm already selling this piece of junk. The gas mileage is horrible. 16.5 mpg (city) I should be driving a huge SUV with that gas mileage. It was nothing but headaches beginning to end. I would strongly advise anyone to never buy this car. I can't wait to get rid of it. I'm scared every time I get in it. I always think its going to break down on me. Never again!
