CLS400 CAR I EVER OWNED

Just purchased a new 2014 Mercedes CLS 550 (MSRP $82,210). I usually purchase E350 Sedans, but because of the superior, outstanding deal I got on this vehicle, I could not resist. First noticeable difference is the outstanding power and performance - 402 hp in a 4.7 liter V8. Fit and Finish are outstanding. Interior design and comfort in front seats is astounding. The ride is smoother and more refined than anything I have ever driven. The car is "dead-out" gorgeous. Safety features like lane-tracking, blind spot monitors and PARKTRONIC are comforting and impeccably designed. Harman/Kardon audio system is unsurpassed in clarity and sound separation. Best car I have ever owned.

I have to say that this is one fine automobile! It is an orgasmic experience-wow! The handling, power, linear lineage, interior layout and exceptional craftsmanship to detail is wonderful. I have read some reviews that mention that the rear seats and headroom are a negative-really?! I bought this car for myself and my wife-I could care less about the comfort of the rear passengers-take a cab! The features that jump out at me are the side bolsters, passive massage, COMMAND features, Lane Assist option, raw power and acceleration. I work in auto sales with a competitor, but after reviewing this vehicle for 2 years, I had to have it. I may be looking for a new job, but this baby is worth it!

Three weeks ago I traded in my 2009 SL550 for this car (2013 CLS550). I had some initial concerns that I would miss my SL, a car I liked very much. I like the CLS so much I haven't spent one minute missing the SL. The CLS is very quiet, luxurious, comfortable, powerful and handles well. It drives smaller than it is, in fact, while it is physically larger than my SL, it doesn't it feel it to me. I am looking forward to a long term, trouble free, relationship with my CLS550. It's now been one year since I wrote my original review. I have to say I'm still very happy with my CLS 550. No longer Owen the vehicle.

I purchased a 2013 CLS550 (4matic). This vehicle is really fun to drive. As mentioned in various reviews the disappointments are the back up camera has not guidelines, the passenger doesn't have seat massagers, the side mirrors do not fold and the PARKTRONIC engage at speeds below 20 MPH. The Parktronics feature is great however it seems to periodically stick. The engine performs as commanded. The engine does has a speed limiter feature the limits the top speed to 133MPH (160 shown on the dashboard).

Trader in 2015 E350 for this, thought it would be the same driving experience since same platform. Wrong. Love this car, great to look at at the turbo V6 is a much better than the old 3.5 V6 with immediate torque, perfect for the way Americans drive. Great ride and handling and a relatively rare car in NE Ohio. Zero issues with car, love it!

Drove a 1999 C230K for 17 years and loved it. Why wouldn't my follow on car be a MB? I am not disappointed. Bought the 2016 CLS 400 Certified Used with 32K miles one year ago. Now have 41K miles. So far, I have had no quality issues. Very tight driving experience. Very good performance from the twin-turbo V6. Smooth and quiet ride. I get comments regularly on how attractive the car is and I get a high in driving it every time I get behind the wheel. Took a while to get used to the entertainment / navigation system, but I'm over that. Some might complain over getting in and getting out of the car due to its low profile, but I'm over that. I have to be extremely careful of parking curbs since the front air dam doesn't have much clearance and mindful also of undercarriage clearance, but so-far-so-good.

Still In Love With This Car After 1-Year of Owners

This is not a family car - it's a 4-door coupe with limited access and comfort in the second row for adults. But since no one ever sits in the 2nd (back) row of my car, it does not affect me negatively. The driver's and passenger's front row seating is very, very comfortable for me (240 lbs and 6'2" tall). All my friends and even strangers on the street tell me it is the most beautiful car in limited mass production manufactured in the world. I agree! The 6 cylinder 3.0 L V-6 Twin Turbo engine is fast and powerful at all RPM's and/or speeds. I've owned a CLS550 (2014) and found it overpowered whereas the 330 hp six is true perfection. I get 32 mpg highway and 19 mpg city with a combined 23 mpg. Not bad for a 4000+lb vehicle. This CLS400 is a keeper - at least until the warranty is up! I LOVE THIS CAR!

Car is stunning, inside and out. It is powerful, fun, and got me a lot of compliments. I owned the vehicle for 15 months, and, in that time, had 3 sets of tires on the vehicle (in approximately 18000 miles). Pirelli, Michelin, and Firestone Indy 500’s. Car left me stranded twice after hitting minor road inconsistencies, completely destroying multiple tires and cracking/denting rims. Both times I was going under 40 MPH. Wheels and tires are not cheap... Each time, I watched tons of cars pass me, hitting the same pothole and cruising on by. Unfortunately, this is not only a dangerous but incredibly frustrating and inconvenient. I traded in the car, lost a bunch of money, and got something I don’t have anxiety driving anymore. My buddy’s mom said she had the same issue (same exact vehicle) and switched out as well. I would recommend the vehicle if you live somewhere where the roads are perfectly maintained, if such a place exists. It’s unfortunate, because I have no other complaints about the vehicle at all. Just a heads up, watch out for any inconsistencies in the road!

Tested the Audi s7, BMW 6, Jaguar and then clearly decided on the CLS 4 matic. Incredible design inside and out. Perfect driving in terms of handling, pick up and comfort. Keep getting compliments almost every time I take it for a drive. Could hardly recommend it more highly.

A great combination of a sporty car with some practicality of a sedan. All the controls and technology are very intuitive to use. Good engine performance with the V6 turbo. I am a little disappointed in the quality. Had to have the car back for disfunctional passenger airbag. Took 3 months to get the replacement seat. Couple other little issues. Key fob control acts up once in a while - won't open trunk or start car ! MB service is great giving a loaner each time. But I thought MB quality would be ace???

I have waited many years to purchase this car I bought it used at 68K miles. I am in love with my car! The performance is outstanding. When I need the horsepower it’s there. Comfort like I’ve never had before. I look forward to driving it every time I have to go out. The only negative I can think of, is only having two back seats. But the only passengers I ever have are my granddaughters and they love it. The car looks like she’s moving fast when she’s sitting in the garage! Style and class on the inside. And performance on the outside. This car is the best I’ve ever owned.

Great Car, only negative is that the back seats are a little hard to get into for an adult. The back end taper of the cars design makes for low headroom in the back seat. No problem for me, because I'm drivin'.

Under key standard features it say hands free blue tooth interface. This is not the case. With even the upgrade number one you can not make voice command dialing. The hands free part is a joke. They expect you to spin knobs or scroll buttons on the wheel why you are driving which is not possible. Read the part under build your car, it really is a scam. My E class had the voice dialing in the number 1 upgrade. This car is 15,000 dollars more then the E class and does not have the standard features of my wife's new Malibu. Second issue even when you buy the M-Brace you can not get directions down loaded to your car. You had to buy upgrade number 2. There is no way for you to know that based on their web site. My last 4 Cadillac's this was standard stuff more then 10 years ago. Now that I got stuck with a car I do not find functional there is no way to change out the control head that offers this option at any cost. I have had the car for 2 years now; the sound system is marginal the sound is not very deep and it is not very loud if you like it that way. The navigation screen looks like it is glued to the dashboard and voice recognition for navigation use is terrible. Cadillac had a pause button on the radio and I miss that feature. The gas peddle can be a little hard to grab at times. My dealership promised valet support for service which they discontinued after I bought the car. The dealership is far away and that promised support was a reason for buying. For $80,000 there seems to be a lot more value in other cars. There is a new version coming out in the fall. If there is an early lease buy out I may consider it if not I will try another brand.

This is a car of many faces -- some delightful and others worthy of terror. At startup, the engine rumbles and moans indicating the true nature of the car you're about to drive. In the comfort setting the car is more serene, quiet, and fun to cruise around curvy roads. As you progress thru the driving modes you feel the level of power, tightness, braking and suspension steadily increase like some caged animal being prodded.

Just had 6 essential relays replaced all from China. The car has been in the MB shop for two weeks now trying to find other problems. Never had a brand new car not start. THis problem has brought to light that MB probably has chinese parts splattered all over. So why does this car cost so much? Germans think they can out engineer bad parts. Hardly. I will not but another MB. Over priced for cheap parts - and they still fail no matter how well the design.

I have driven my 2013 CLS550 for about one thousand miles. This is my first Mercedes, my previous care being a 2010 Hyundai Genesis. I must say that I am not sure the CLS is worth twice the cost of the Genesis. Here are a few annoyances I have found so far. The exterior rear view mirrors do not fold. That option is only available in Canada. The back up camera has no guide lines. The rear seat passengers can regulate the air flow but cannot change the temperature. Admittedly the CLS has much more power than the Genesis, but it is not easy to regulate. The accelerator seems like an on/off switch, which is not easily regulated for steady acceleration.

The car was perfect in every detail, except the navigation system. It got jammed and stuck, a typical malfunction of software or firmware. Only after some visits to the dealership, and some pictures taken from the screen during malfunction, the service manager was convinced there was something else going on. This happened right after buying the vehicle with warranty about to expire. But they honored the promise by replacing the navigation unit. I put 15k miles on it and it still works well.

I bought mine new in 16 loaded (sticker was $93K - twice my 1st house back in the day) and purchased the 7 year extended warranty which expired at the end of 22, so I just did the muffler delete with upgraded ceramic tips which gave it a BIT more power, but now it 'sounds' like it has WAY more power! YOWZA!!! Be careful with the AMG wheels, if you bend one you'll be out $1300+ each. I've had no mechanical issues or replacement parts other than the battery, I still have my original brake pads, albeit I only have 32K miles on her. Super dependable, but my wife (a GLC 300 owner) hates it because it sits so low, and the back seat does suck if you have adults back there. I garage this over the winter with a trickle charge on the battery, but it does do well in the snow with the AWD, sporting all seasons or better. I don't plan on selling this one any time soon :-)

I test drove a 2014 cls550 4matic with 50k on the clock, I was not impressed by the ride quality at all, I expected the air ride to be more comfortable, I felt every crack in the road and the road noise was bad, the tires were new with plenty of tread, I will stick with my 2014 Audi s5 prestige much smoother ride and less road noise....also the the head room was terrible even in the driver seat and I'm 6 foot....my 2 door s5 has much more head room.

To mention only the most salient points. Visibility for making a left turn is downright dangerous, because of the limited view. The Sport or Comfort choice has no noticeable difference. No place to leave sunglasses for easy access. Battery had to be replaced after 1000 miles Drivers arm rest had to be replaced after 2 years 10,000 miles. The navigation screen tilt invites the sunshine which blinds the screen Seat upholstery is hard and causes pain to a user after a half hour. Rear view camera has a fisheye undesirable lens. A highly questionable technology when turning off the monitor it turns off everything such as the telephone etc. When starting the engine, it roars like a lion for several minutes. I don't like the car and am deeply disappointed in its convoluted in the dashboard located information systems. You need to crawl under dashport to find various switches LEFT TURN VISIBI:ITY< IMPOSSIBLE- DANGEROUS. I would never purchase this car again. AMEN Except for exterior design, the is the worst car I have ever owned

I bought my 2015 CLS 400 used 60k 3 months ago it is a superb machine; it rides smooth, looks elegant inside and out. I added 19 inch tires with a very stylish spoked rim; also I added LED star for the front grille and laser projected Mercedes logo Courtesy lights on all 4 doors to give my CLS an exclusive head turning look. Took it on a road trip and I got an average mpg on the HWY of 31.8. So far this car is for me. Oh yeah my previous car was a Jag S-Type. Nice car but doesn’t compare to the CLS 400.
