I Miss My MX-6
This was my all time favorite vehicle! Got 330,000 miles out of her before I sold her to a young man rebuilding another MX-6. All she needed was a clutch.
Awesome luxo/sport coupe
Actually my girlfriends car, but I want it. It is the M edition, with the tan leather and burgandy paint, gold badging and rims... Looks classy, much more like a European luxury coupe than a Ford Probe (which, along with the 626 were all built on the same assembly line in the US.) The car looks great and runs great... The 2.5l v6 has a good deal of torque, I think 185 ft-lb. to go with the 165 hp, and you can feel it... The car loves to be above 4k rpms. Backseat is a joke, but then again, who cares, I dont sit back there. I have seen headers, ecu's and exhausts for this engine but that is about it.
Beautiful Inside & Out
I bought this car as a 70-mile per day commuter. Looks, performance and comfort all seemlessly coexist in this car. This car, even at six years old, still looks fresh and it's not like every other coupe on the road (read Integra, Mustang or Camaro).
MX-6
Great car. Affordable. Minor problems electrically and mechanically. Lack of horsepower for racing ethusiasts, but decent V6
Would Buy Again in a Heartbeat
This was my everyday ride for 15 years. Purchased it in 2001 with 55K miles on it. Final odometer reading: 247,809. Coming out of an '85 Celica hatchback, I felt right at home in it from the get-go. My motorhead brother was skeptical when I bought it because it shared design features of the Probe...and how long since anyone's seen one of those on the road? But the engine was all Mazda. Bro has frequently expressed amazement that my MX-6 has had such a great run. An unfortunate encounter on the interstate with an 18-wheeler has left the car in ruins, but amazingly, I walked away without a scratch! (Thankfully, no one else was hurt either.) This car has been one tough little cookie. The original clutch lasted until 2011. The aftermarket ones stank and had been replaced 3 times. Distributer was replaced twice. Timing belt and major hoses replaced in 2012. Axles replaced this spring. Tires were getting hard to find, as few manufacturers make 14" ones anymore. The engine light came on after foolishly driving through some floodwater, and stayed mostly on for the last 3 years (probably oxygen sensors). Only time it would ever go off was when I took it to the mechanic. Go figure. I finally put a piece of duct tape over the light to spare myself the annoyance of looking at it. The cylinder compression was getting weak toward the end of its life. Other than those things, I can't think of any major mechanical issues. It never leaked a drop of oil. This car is such fun to drive. With decent tires, I never got stranded in snow. And to be so small, you could pack an amazing amount of camping gear into it! My biggest complaints are cabin noise and constant danger of cracking one's skull on the trunk latch when loading or unloading the trunk. If I had $$ to put into a "toy," I'd go in search of another one today! Sure gonna miss my little friend.

MX6!!!!
Great car, not very common. Silent killer, although the mods are expensive if you are a racer. Nice car for anyone, has the looks and the speed to make almost anyone happy.
Can;t find anything comparable
Car has 91,000 mi. & I hate to part with it.Still an eye catcher and runs great. Except for necessary maintenance have had few problems. Still as happy with it after 13 yrs. except for fuel economy. Why can't they build something that looks and behaves like this? I'm waiting!
MazMX-6 LS
6 yrs old. Still get compliments on how 'cool' it is. Interior and exterior have kept their luster. No service problems, just regular maintenance and replacement of belts, tires and battery in 84000 miles. Great car.
Not for everyone
Great style, accurate handling, a well- engineered powerplant and lots of fun to drive are the good features. Poor build quality and cheap assembly materials are the major complaints. The M Edition was only built for one year, making it a rarity among the rare. MX6 was pricey when new, so the car didn't sell well compared to the near identically outfitted Probe. If you like exclusivity and can deal with the few problems (all simple and easily fixed with good information on the Web), this is a great car.
1996 Mazda MX6
This vehicle has been a good vehicle. I haven't had many repairs at all, just standard maintenance. The only drawback I have seen is that the car is not terribly comfortable on long drives.
Enjoy owning it
Not sure why the reviewer by the alias of bebe is complaining about part cost... the MX6 and Probe are built on the same drive train and was a joint venture. The little work I have had done didn't kill me. I also do maintenance on my own car and yeah it's packed... but so are most newer cars with V6's or above. Stick to a V4 and you should have more room to maneuver inside :) Although I'll be replacing the car in a little over a year, I've been very very happy with it overall. Wish it had a little bit more oomph, but if I really wanted that could have got something else. The styling is just excellent and the ride is very good.
Mx6 traits by Maple Springs Automotive
I'm a used car dealer in NC, and I buy a lot of foreign cars. I've had numerous Mazda Mx6's and 626's with the 2.5 v6 and I can say that they are for the money a pretty solid car all around.
awesome car
I Absolutely loved having my mx-6. I had it for about a year and a half, but now I got a baby on the way so I had to trade it in for something bigger. This car did wonderful for me, the engine was very strong, the suspension, though softer then I wanted, was pretty smooth, and it was unique on the road. I would buy again, despite the high cost of parts.
The best car I've ever had
I just sold my MX-6 after 7 great years, It couldn't grow with my family! I've had a Toyota and a Nissan before this and this was more reliable than the other 2. Power was average below 3k but it was excellent above 4500. Still runs 120+
Good Car
Unfortunately, I haven't had the best luck with the mechanical features of this car. Problems started springing up at about 65,000 miles. Mostly nuisance stuff, but it adds up. Overall, it is a good car. It handles great, accelerates well, and rides nice. It is a little noisy. But, it is one of the nicest looking cars on the road.
Saved lives... Best car ever!
Words can't describe how thankful I am for this car. Unfortunately the car just got totaled, but saved lives. Everyone walked out without a scratch, it's a miricle. The safety for this car is unbelievably amazing, super fun to drive too and will truly be missed. Amazing car all around and would recommend to anybody. The body is so tough, it's a life saver.
Why Buy a Beemer?
Everytime I try to sell this car for something new I keep coming back to it. What a great price for a smooth looking V6! The cupholder situation, as others mentioned, is a joke. The 3Disc in dash CD changer is sweet. No mechanical issues to speak of.
dream car at a dream price
the best car i ever had (for almost 2 years now). i was thinking of selling it because it is a '96 and buy something newer. but what to replace my fun driving, gorgeous looking MX6 with? this car is deffinately a keep...
Awsome Performance Coupe!
Bought my 97 MX-6 LS for $6,000 and I couldn't be happier. Ok, so it's got 105k miles, but it runs perfect. Quick acceleration with the V6 is a kick in the pants! Got all the toys; leather, sunroof, alloy wheels, new MP3 CD, and power everything. Great bang for my hard earned bucks!
Fantastic Car!
Unbelievable car. Oddly enough, fantastic on long trips...no driver fatigue! Corners on a dime, mpg up to 28+.Only problem... with radio antennae, but fixed cheaply. Leather seats hold up well. Sound system superb. Never done a thing to it and at 53k miles...doing great!
Great Car
I've had this car for nearly 4 years. Got it at 39K and its now at 75K. No real big problems at all. Ive taken various long trips (1500+Miles) without any issues. It's a great car.
Svelte, reliable beast.
This car never breaks down. The four cylinder is more than adequate in the city (I live in DC). With Eibach sport springs and bigger tires--I run 225/60/15--handling borders on amazing. I've got the last year (1997) in metallic gray with a greenish tint, and it looks like nothing else out there. Keeping this one forever.
Great Car for the money
This is actually my third MX-6 I've owned but the other two were 93's. This one I like a lot more then the other two. It has a more luxurious look with the added on M-Edition label. Also the OBDII is nice to have. The handling and get up and go really add to the fun factor of this car. I couldn't be happier and I'd recommend buying this car to almost anyone.
My Mx6
This car is incredibly fun to drive, and is easy to do modifications to. My first car ever and will always be loved. Things start to go as the car ages, however, so reliability is not the best, however nothing too serious. The fun experienced by simply driving this machine makes up for any problems though. It's a great car for the young and old driving enthusiast, and especially for those into upgrading/modifying vehicles.
Expensive maintenance, poor pockets
Expensive, meaning - Japanese, need I say more??? Even if you buy domestic, it seems that service depts suck, suck you dry that is. It's bad enough that I made a bad decision on my choice of cars to buy, but then when it needs repairs, no body wants to work on it, cuz everything's too hard to get to....under this, behind that. When you finally do find someone who won't rip you off for labor charges, the parts still put you in the poor house. ADVISE: If you're going to buy a (somewhat) high performance foreign car, you first must be willing & able to dish out lots of coin.
MX6 - a born classic
What a fantastic car. I bought second hand with 25k, and have owned for 3 years. I now have 130k, and still runs like the day I bought it. Lotsa power (provided you have the 2.5L V6), lotsa torque unlike the vtec 4 cylinders of today. You don't need 5000 rpm to get this car moving. Mine is cherry red, and I have metallic/smokey light tint on the windows (comparable to the Lexus type tints), and man does it look sharp. It's a real eye catcher. I've gotten so many compliments about my car, I almost don't want to get rid of it! But, tis the end of an era for me, and I'm off to SUV land.
mazda mx-6 LS
This is one of the best ever vehicle i have driven. I would never want to sell this.
Smooooth
The car delivers everything you could want in this class.Remember,it's not a porshe, bmw,or a g35 coupe, but bang for your buck, you'll be happy. It's also a somewhat rare car and if you can find a clean one with low mileage, you'll have additional pride of ownership. So go out there and start your search, you won't be sorry!
Watch your head
This is an excellent car for any enthusiast, such as myself; however, if your looking for an everyday driver, you should probably look at a larger vehicle. The best part of this car is the fact that I can put all of metallica's band gear in my trunk... IT'S HUGE!!! The cost of the large trunk is that you have to compromise your back seat space. The other big downer about this car is the one cup holder that only fits a 12oz soda. 4cyl is a little slow, but the 6cyl has a decent amount of power. Transmission could have been designed better. I dont like having a 2.5 ghost gear :( I still think that it is a great car though. I'm very pleased with it.
