Great Value & Still Zooming in Raleigh
After 8 months: best combination of driving experience, braking, interior space & comfort, technology and safety amongst Highlander, 4Runner, Pilot, Sante Fe,Outback, Tribeca, Vera Cruz & other Asian SUV/CUV's w/ AWD evaluated (Asian quality/value bias after owning 20+ domestic, Euro & lately Asian vehicles). A nearly perfect family of 5 transport design w/ generous 2nd row and a 3rd row even adults could fit into in a pinch - and still have some cargo room. Not there isn't decent competition, but the steering, decent acceleration & AWD, excellent brakes and low road noise compared to even pricier CUVs are impressive. Drive of the CX-9 to others considered or you will be short changed.
Sweet CX-9 GT
Picked up are CX-9 GT with Bose. Handles very nice, lots of room for us and are 2 kids. Got a great price and not one issue dealing with Palisades Mazda,West Nyack. Cant wait to take on a road trip, and also see how it goes through the snow.

Things to consider before purchasing
After owning for 16 months, the Cons, especially #1, outweigh the Pros. Cons - Passenger side air bag turns off when anyone <105ish lbs sits there. Taken it to the dealer & they say there's nothing they can do about it. This leaves my light passengers completely unprotected. Should be a recall. - Front defrost is terribly designed - doesn't span the length of the windshield & sits too far away from the base of the window. Wipers freeze over and have to be manually snapped in a snow storm. - Sub par radio reception - Hatchback too low. 6'1" husband hits head A LOT - Highway MPG = 19 at best - Terrible leather quality Pro - Excellent 4 wheel drive - Price - Super roomy
Drive luxury, spend reasonably
I'm going to sum it up for those considering a purchase. If you want to spend $45-50k on a vehicle for name's sake, the you should purchase a Lexus, Infiniti, MB or Acura. They are great SUV/CUV choices from these brands. If you want the quality, amenities and sportiness of vehicles offered from these brands, but are in the $25-40k range as far as budget is concerned, then the CX-9 tops all others. We came from a Cayenne off lease and can believe how much value is packed into the CX-9. Don't even think about the Honda, Toyota, Chevy or Ford offerings at the same price (drove and priced them all). There is no comparison in regards to dollar for dollar value.
Replaced R350 - First Trip - ZOOM ZOOM!
Our CX9 Grand Touring just replaced an MB R350. Pros for the CX9 - Value for $, Handling, Power, Nav, Really Great Sound System, Handier Seats / Utility, Power Liftgate sounds like it will work, Regular Gas, Style, Interior Fit & Finish / Style. Cons - Gas Cost really isn't - CX9 is 10% less gas mileage, but uses Regular!! Seats other than driver's seat are a little less solid. Driver's seat is better than R, especially for medium height drivers. If you need something midsized and flexible and miss CX9 you are missing a great choice - we tested a lot. Most amazing feature - the car got looks from people in LA - must be the new colors and big wheels!
Excellent Choice
This is an incredibly good choice for our family. The CX-9 looks great, it's fun to drive and built solidly. My older kids can ride in the 3rd row seat comfortably. Handles like a sporty sedan. Hands down, way more enjoyable to own than a minivan. Very good brakes. Plenty of nice features for being the "base" model.
Great performance and style
First of all, this is a great vehicle for the price paid. It offers a lot when compared to premium vehicles. Bluetooth, moonroof, Sirius, blind spot monitoring, 20 inch wheels, heated leather seats, innovative styling, beautiful gauges, back up camera, auto. rear hatch, auto dimming mirrors, tire pressure monitoring, 0% financing and more. Best of all it is fun to drive and has good cargo capacity and can be made better by adding more driver storage bins or compartments. Gas mileage can be better but I average 21.5 city/hwy. combined. Driven 7000+ miles w/o any issues. I recommend this over Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, GMC Acadia, Chevy Traverse, Kia and Hyundai. Indeed a Great buy!
Mazda CX9: The Perfect Family Hauler
I love this vehicle! It's sporty, roomy and handles incredibly well on slick streets. I drove it on a rain- soaked highway at 70 MPH, and the CX9 was completely sure footed. My previous cars have been a Ford Mustang, a Suburu Impreza, an Infiniti G35, and a Honda mini-van...and the CX- 9 combines all the best attributes from those cars. It is really, really fun to drive...is a very high quality build...and all the kids and their stuff fit inside. The only downside is the poor gas mileage. I do a combination of highway and surface street driving, and I'm only getting 15 MPG.
Fun Crossover
Just purchased CX-9 Touring with moonroof, bose sound system and power liftgate for around $32,000. I've been test driving and looking at new cars for over a month. I work out of my car so I needed power plugs for my laptop and GPS. I also needed a car that I could be in for over 8 hours and drive over some gravel roads and rough terrain. The CX- 9 had everything I needed and it cost less then all the other cars I looked at. I really liked the Highlander, Acadia, MDX and Enclave but after doing all the research I kept going back to the CX- 9. I'm really enjoying the Sirius radio. The bluetooth I'm still learning but it seems to have difficulty locating my phone every time I try to use it.
Love my car!
Absolutely love the car. We've had it for two weeks. I've already used it once for a long trip. Our kids love the 3rd row. We started out wanting to get the GMC Acadia, but the GMC dealer didn't want to work with us at all. We decided to go to the Mazda dealership the next day, and had no problems. I'm really glad we decided to go with the CX9. It has so much space and it is fun to drive.
Another keeper
Our second Mazda product and no disappointments. We shopped for weeks and considered all similar vehicles from $25,000 to $40,000+. Nothing compared for dollar value. This CX-9 set the standard for everything else. We could not find any reason to buy Lexus, Acura etc. Nothing is perfect but we have yet to find any faults which is a great experience, especially considering the selling price compared to others. Yes it would be nice to have better mileage but ride, comfort and build quality are first class.
Best value SUV
I went into the process with about six SUVs in mind (Q7, X5, Highlander, Enclave, FX35, and the CX-9). I was pretty smitten with the Q7. But Mazda makes it pretty tough because they are just such an exceptional value. I liked the Q7 better, but not $25K better. I test drove the X5 twice. I know it's heresy, but I think the CX-9 is a better vehicle. I liked all of the cars I drove pretty well, but Mazda gives you a luxury SUV, top of the line model, outstanding performance and reliability at a great price point. Styling is a personal thing, but behind the Q7 I thought it was the best looking of the bunch.
Mazda CX-9 GT is performer & stylish
First of all, this is a great vehicle for the price paid. It offers a lot when compared to premium vehicles. The Best Choice
My wife and myself have test drove every sub $35,000 SUV/ Crossover, and Van on the market for the last 6 months. I must confess the CX-9 was the best riding, best fit and finish I found for the money.
Crossover Best Buy
It was finally time to replace the 10 year old Pathfinder. In making our decision, the wife and I test drove the Pilot, Highlander, Veracruz and the CX-9. We were completely blown away by the the way the CX-9 handled. Believe me, you really need to test drive this vehicle to fully understand how well it drives. We went with the Grand Touring AWD model with the Bose / Moonroof and the Power Liftgate packages. We both find this vehicle very fun to drive and cannot wait to take it on our first road trip.
Great Car
Just purchased a week ago and have to say what a great car this really is. Test drove the Pilot, Pathfinder. Highlander but this was the best value and drive for the money, by far. Had a VW Touareg a couple of years ago and feel as safe driving the Mazda as I did my Touareg.
BEST CAR EVER
i looked at many cross over cars and was torn between volvo xc60 and mazda cx-9 the price and options and power under the engine made the final call. when i could get every option but the indash nav for and out the door price of 36,000 for the mazda and 43,000 for the volvo minus many options and got the extended warranty and matiance warranty for 150,000 miles on the mazda with the 36,000 price.
"impressive ride"
Got the CX-9 im place of my leased'07 Envoy. Took test drive and was sold. Great power and handling. The cockpit really sold me. Took it out in the snow and WAS IMPRESSED ON HOW IT HANDLED. Price was right for a 7 pass CUV.
WOW, ALL THIS FOR 36K??
Have had almost every SUV made in the last 30 years, and I can say without question, that this is the best value for the buck of any that I have owned.. Came from a H3 Hummer, which cost me almost 45k, to this, which is a fully loaded GTAWD for 36k; BLOWS AWAY the competition, and, even though I didnt need a 7 passenger SUV, the cost vs. value for this guy was impossible to resist...Compared to a Pilot, Santa Fe, Ford Edge, and a few others, there is NO COMPARISON! Just flat out fun to drive, and solid and stable as any car or SUV I have ever owned..and , even my wife LOVES it, and she hates most SUV's...
Love this CX-9
We love the smooth, quiet, and comfortable ride. AC, seats, quality, blind spot monitoring, stereo, all great. Test drove Highlander, Venza, Pilot, Veracruz, Santa Faye, Cross Tour (Honda) (our second choice), Kia Sorento, & Murano and this was the BEST by far. Just got back from a 1500 mile trip. Got about 21 MPG. Love the ride, quietness, memory seats, key less entry and start and all the other features.
New owner of Mazda CX 9
Only had my new CX9 FWD for 3 weeks but everything favorable written about it in other reviews by actual owners, is pretty much true. I bought the Sport Model and had leather seats and Sirius radio installed.
What an SUV should be.....
Bought this truck for the family. We just got belted with almost 2 feet of snow. Truck handled it like a champ. Wife loves room. Had deposit on Highlander but went to see the CX9 and had to have it. Highlander is smaller, not enough storage space, 3 row entrance from only 1 side, middle seat in 2 row is small. CX9 drives great and stable. Kids actually want to sit in 3 row. Amazing the 3 row is split fold down.
New CX9
Purchased new CX9 AWD GT a couple weeks ago. Replaced 2002 Chevy TrailBlazer that was wrecked and totaled. Looked at Toyota Venza & Highlander, Honda Pilot, Acura MDX and Chevy Traverse. In comparing features, style, size, towing, performance and price, the CX9 was an easy choice. 0% for 60 mo. was the deal clincher. Leaps and bounds ahead of the TB. Wife drives it regularly and loves it - very important. Only disappointment is mileage, but expected this based on research done. Have owned Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, Chevy, Toyota and Honda as daily drivers - so far very happy with the Mazda - hope it stays that way.
TOTALLY AWESOME SUV
Traded in a minivan last Halloween, and i really made the right decision. I own a CR-V and a Toyota and i can really tell the difference in driving, comfort and the responsiveness of the vehicle. I got the BOSE-Moonroof Pack and the sound is amazing. Driver's cockpit is classy. Transmission is smooth, manumatic shift is a plus. Bluetooth and voice command recognition is nice and standard. The interior fit and finish is at it's finest, such a handsome look outside but still looks good even when carrying the whole family. This is trully a ZOOM-ZOOM vehicle from Mazda,so fun to drive. Can't wait to drive to Florida w/ the family on Thanksgiving!
great car
I traded my Mercedes R350 on a new Mazda CX9 Sport; what a value! Even the base level is well optioned, including heated seats. I added leather as a dealer installed option which was well worth it because the quality is much higher than the factory hides and it is less expensive that upgrading to the Touring model. My Mazda rides and drives like a dream and the styling is awesome. The cargo room with the seats folded down is enough for furniture and unlike my Mercedes you don't have to remove the headrests to put the seats down. If you are in the market for a 7 passenger, AWD vehicle, this is the one!
CX-9 is a very good SUV.
I own a cx-9 and every time i go to my garage, i say "wow, i made a good choice." The cx-9 is affordable but looks luxurious and costly. Compare it with suvs like the Acura mdx and the Toyota highlander and i would say Mazda came up with a competitive car.
Bought a 2010 Mazda CX-9 Sport
We have had our new Mazda CX-9 a week and love it (especially the kids)! We got the Sport model with the power driver seat / dual seat heaters. the Bluetooth feature is great and sound good. Looked at all the 3 row crossovers and liked this one the best.
Saying Goodbye to Minivans
We have been driving minivans for about 20 years raising the kids. The kids are grown, but we still need occasional room to haul cargo and up to six passengers comfortably. The cx-9 is a blast to drive. Great Bose stereo system. Solid handling. Many nice features. We bought the awd as we do like to go to the mountains and make long trips in the winters. 95% of the time the fwd would be fine. The difference in fuel economy was minimal, so we decided on the awd.
LOVE the CX9
We have 2500 miles on the car and love its comfort, ride, looks, abundant features, room and quality. Looked at them all - Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Handai and Kia. This beats them all hands down.
A great SUV
Bought the CX-9 to replace an Acura MDX. It's a great value, thousands less than an MDX or even a Chevy Traverse with leather. It drives beautifully and the interior looks great with French-stitched leather and contrasting accents. It's every bit as roomy, luxurious and comfortable as the MDX, and looks a lot better than the current MDX, or just about any other SUV.
Great Crossover
This is our 5th vehicle purchase. We owned Toyotas ever since but the recent recalls made me think about their quality and reliability. I've always been curious about CX9 but never had the chance to test drive one. Once I drove it, instantly fell in love! The quality is above average. Interior is beautiful so as the exterior. Very quiet on the road. Handling is great. A lot of space even with the 3rd row up. Became a Mazda fan immediately. Thinking to trade in my Corolla for a Mazda 3!
Love my zoom zoom zoom
I've had the gt cx9 for a month now. I absolutely love it! I was worried it wouldn't be as smooth as my Lexus Rx, but I don't even notice the difference! I considered the Acura mdx, the Buick Enclave, and the Highlander. This was definitely the best choice! I love the keyless entry, the third row, the sirius radio, the ipod connection (sounds awesome with Bose speakers), and the navigation! I feel like I got a pair of Jimmy Choos for half off! I do wish the doors automatically locked after shifting to drive, and that the cargo cover was available for power liftgate doors (got used to both with my lexus). Great car all around, I don't miss the Lexus one bit!
CX-9 Fan
Traded a Volvo XC90. I was a little leary about moving from european to japanese make. The car has been flawless. Feels very solid. Handles beautifully. Feels very safe. Quiet, smooth & powerful. I look forward to driving this car to work each day.
Love it! Love it! Love it!
So far this has been BY FAR the very best car I have ever driven. I love the blind spot sensor. That really helps me feel safe when trying to change lanes. It is very quiet and I don't get all the road noise I used to get. There is some much functional space w/o a lot of wasted space. My kids love it too!
Zoom all the way
I've had my 2010 Grand Touring CX-9 since Dec 2009. This vehicle is definitely fun and comfortable. I live in the country and take the back roads at more than optimum speeds and the vehicle handles great. I've owned a Subaru with AWD and that was a bit better on the handling. Drive 110 miles each day and my back loves the comfortable seats. I've used the heated seats with no problems but I'll refrain until they are fixed. Few economy is great. I get 21.9. Not bad for cruising down the road.
From Murano to CX-9
We needed a bigger vehicle as our child gets older. I've had 2 previous Nissan Muranos with excellent ratings but it was too small. Saw this vehicle on the road. I'm a big music lover and saw that it had Bose sound system with AudioPilot and surround.
2nd one!
Just traded a 2007 CX-9 Grand Touring for a 2010. Guess that says it all. Residual value was awesome after 3 years and had no issues with at all in 3 years. Most stylish people mover on the market.
Very amazed about this vehicle !!!
WOW, that basically what comes to mine mind when describing this vehicle. Great performance, excellent Cargo space, comfort is awesome either at the front row and second row, dashboard is very nice and neat, bluetooth is also another great feature and extremely easy to setup. Mazda should add to their Basic package the Cargo Cover and Cargo Mat. We purchased the Sport Model and added the after market leather. Great Choice, way much better material the factory installed, cheaper. You will not go wrong when considering the purchase of this vehicle.
Exactly what I needed
I spent the better part of 5 months researching and test driving every 6 cylinder cross over SUV with a third row. I narrowed my search to CX-9, Acadia, Pilot and MDX. Having owned a 2003 Tahoe I really wanted a car-like driving experience without sacrificing too much size. I'm 6'4" so I need the room. The verdict: The Acadia drove like my Tahoe, large and lumbering. It definitely has the size but the driving experience wasn't there. The Pilot drove nicely but it's exterior styling and small 3rd row weren't what I was looking for. The MDX was very nice both to drive and in features but the price for equal features was in BMW/Audi territory. The CX9 hit the mark both inside and out.
WOW! This car has it all, >$40k
So far, the car has performed way above expectations. We were looking for a family car with GPS for her and a DVD system for the kids. I was most concerned with luxury class features and styling such as adaptive Xenon lights, leather interior, Handsfree B/T operation, auto liftgate, etc. Our CX-9 Grand Touring has ALL of this.
One of the Best Vehicles I've Owned!
We leased one in 2008 and liked it so much we bought the new 2010 model. It looks great and it drives great. It has every advantage of a Mini-van combined with the feel and drive of a sports car wrapped up in a beautiful SUV body. And the best part is that you dont have to sell a kidney to get one. Every comparable SUV is at least $10K more.
Best of class
Coming from an Acura Owner who did a lot of research and nearly bought a MDX, the CX-9 is without a doubt the best bang for the buck. Cargo room, ride, build quality, everything is top notch.
HANDS DOWN - BEST IN CLASS!!!
Had to do my research and I'm glad I did! The CX-9 is by far the best value for your $. Bought the GT w/Bose/Moonroof & Power Liftgate pkg. At first i thought i didn't need a power liftgate. Boy was i wrong. It's a must especially with a baby. I also own a Lexus ES300 and i didn't think i would find a more comfortable ride..until now. The CX-9 is all i had hoped for & more. Personally, the CX-9 destroyed the Highlander(3rd row impostor),Pilot, Murano. Skeptics out there looking for a roomy, styling, SUV check out the Mazda CX-9. You'll see and feel the difference. Lastly-Mazda is not owned by Ford. Fords stake in Mazda is 13% & every CX-9 comes from Japan.
CX9 Sport with lots of Bells & Whistles!
Needed to downsize from a 2007 Chevy Tahoe but still needed third row option. I loved my Tahoe! But did not love the $604 monthly payment! We compared the CX9 to the Pilot and the Acadia. The CX9 Sport had soo many more bells and whistles for a base model! It was a NO BRAINER for us! Bluetooth, roofrack, seat warmers, satellite radio, dual zone heating/cooling, nice dashboard finish, power seats and drives beautifully! The first night I had the CX9 7 of us piled in for my birthday! We all fit comfortably!
What a GREAT car!!
I shopped around for over 2 months and drove the Jeep Liberty, Honda CRV, Toyota Highlander, Chevy Equinox, and Ford Edge and Escape to name a few. I am so happy with my Mazda SUV. It drives beautifully, it's Japanese, the interior is beautiful the leather is very nice and the drive is better than any vehicle mentioned above. The drive is smooth and quiet and I was very worried to downgrade from my Mercedes GL 450 (spoiled) and thought that I would not find a nice but better priced vehicle.
Awesome inside and out
Just picked -up the vehicle from the dealership.Traded in our sienna minivan, came out to be one of my best decisions.Tried going to pilot but cant stand the boxy look, the nose looks like a bulldog.Highlander is ok but on the small side. I love how the cx-9 looks from inside and out. Very comfortable ride, very smooth transmission. Manumatic shift is great, makes it more sporty feel.20" is awesome adds on the vehicle's handsome look,BSM is great too.Interior finish and cockpit looks classy. Definitely this mazda is a keeper.
Best SUV On the Road
I have been shopping for a new vehicle for over a year and every time I found a vehicle that sparked my interest, I was let down when I saw the vehicle in person. When I came across the cx9 I loved the styling and after the test drive it was a done deal. The cx9 all the room I was looking for and was a blast to drive. The cx9 is a perfect combination of SUV and sports car.
A surprise in the SUV/Crossover market
The Mazda Cx9 is a great SUV with plenty of room in the cabin, the large amount of leg room in the middle row amazed my family. The ride is smooth and quiet but like a German car it keeps you in full control with the awareness on what kind of terrain you are in. It seems as Mazda copied other car companies (in a good way) The Navigation is like Acura, the seats like Lexus, the controls like GM, and the overall ride like a BMW. The SUV is simple to use with good controls that even an older generation can get used to. The down side is that the lights in the third and second row are single ones in the middle, it would have been nice to been personal ones. Other than that it's a great buy.
Sharp car
Very nice looking and driving car for SUV wife loves it in black on black leather very plush only complaint is a little better fuel mileage tons of space though! For the money nothing comes close, tried Honda Pilot , what an over rated ride so crappy and plasticy. Toyota cost more and I have more room in the Mazda and it is sharper looking!
Mazda cx-9 touring awd
I have purchased this car from Maxon Mazda in NJ,and i am really happy with the car. You would never be disappointed with this vehicle. Especially with its backup- camera, and bose audio system. It is a real fun-driving machine. The only disadvantage could be with the mileage otherwise i am extremely happy with the car and its dynamics.. Bye bye Toyota and Honda.
