All the right stuff
I have owned a 2013 Mazda CX-5 touring for 3 years now. It's my wife's car but I always ended up driving it more than my cars. When it came time for me to get a new car, I thought it may be dumb to buy another cx-5. I test drove a RAV4, Tucson, and CRV. I ended up buying a sole red 2016 Mazda CX-5 grand touring with tech package. The other SUVs did nothing for me. I just liked the Mazda better for the level of styling, performance, options and price. They really improved the car in the last 3 years. It's faster, quieter, smother and more upscale than my 2013 cx5. Granted my 2013 is just a touring. And my new 2016 cx5 is a grand touring. I'm glad I bought the grand touring. People have asked me several times already " what did you pay for this car? 40-50 thousand" no, I reply laughing 29,500. To their shock. The car looks and drives like it cost at least 10 grand more than it does. I did talk down the price 2,600 when I bought it. I can't or don't want to afford a Lexus or a Bmw. For me, this is as close to a luxury SUV I want to own. I love it. All three cars that I own are mazdas. I also have a 99 Miata. I wish Mazda gave a 10 year warrantee though, just for my piece of mind.

nice ride with sporty look/feel.
I love just about everything besides 2 things. The button that u push to start the car is located behind the windshield wipers, to me that's badly thought out. The only other thing I don't like is that it's loud when u start it and while its running. So if that is a problem, I would recommend not getting the sport model. If those aren't too bothersome to you then I would highly recommend it.

My First SUV
I have always leased fast "sporty" VW - GTi 2.0T, Jetta Sport TSI 1.8T, but decided to upgrade to a SUV for the AWD. I drove pretty much every "affordable" AWD cars on the market, and was almost set on buying a Nissan Rouge until someone suggest the CX-5. This car is fantastic! I went for the Grand Touring 2016.5 without the tech package in the dark grey - the tech package seems pointless if you are a good driver, and it saves you an extra $3,000 not to have it. I feel like I'm driving in a hatchback: the drive is light, quiet, and sturdy, plus I'm already getting 24MPG out of a 15.4G tank! The CX-5 GT comes with rims, blacked-out-windows, and a variety of colours, but it most definitely looks sporty, which matched the inside perfectly. The inside feels smaller - like a hatchback. As and FYI the touchscreen cuts out at 10mph for safety, and you have to use the wheel controls or the shifter/button/gear by the armrest, which takes some time to get used to but very easy to navigate. Added bonus - my Mazda came with etched/theft prevention windows so I saved 17% on my car insurance, which was a greater added bonus being under 25! If you want a sporty hatchback I would definitely recommend this car! Not only does it look great, the CVT is quick and acceleration is good!

Mazda 2016 CX5
There are a surprising number of similar cars out there right now with similar basic size, styling. ~Ford Escape ~Hyundai Santa Fe Sport ~Kia Sportage ~Honda CRV ~Toyota Rav4 ~Subaru Outback I would say give the Mazda a serious look. The mileage is good, the car is excellent, it is surprisingly quick and so fun to drive you can quickly forget you are not in a sports car but an all wheel drive S.U.V. We may put in a rear stabilizer to improve the handling on long radius and higher speed turns. The car is awesome. Great Value for a car and SkyActiv technology is for real...not just another b.s. marketing stunt.

Good for drivers, bad for resale
The good: I am a driver at heart, so there wasn’t much sacrifice on that front. The CX-5 is a great handling SUV, and it was fun taking freeway bends at 50+ mph, when the speed limit on them was 25. The sport mode added another element of fun on top of it. This is also one of the more gas friendly SUVs I’ve seen; I owned the vehicle for 18K miles and averaged 32.8 mpg (I was over 33 for awhile but stopped paying as much attention to it). The cargo space does the job; I have twins and all of the strollers, etc. never had issues fitting into the back. This is definitely a reliable vehicle, as I had no problems, and it still ran like new. Of course, it wasn’t that old, but I enjoyed only doing routing maintenance. The bad: Depreciation. Goodness gracious. All new vehicles depreciate of course, but this one is on another level. The rate in which it kept doing so was way faster than I liked, so I traded it in for something that would be much better in this respect when looking at it from a long term point of view. If you don’t care about this piece, then it’s not an awful purchase. But, if you do, choose something else. Unless you have a substantial downpayment. Also, the interior space really isn’t as big as you’d think. The cargo space works just fine, but the backseat is not up to standards. I had to move my front seats up a decent amount to fit the infant carseats in. Again, I have twins, so just having one in the middle row wouldn’t work. Even still, I would’ve had to move the front seats up. My wife and I were slightly uncomfortable with the car seats in, but got used to it after a few days (no choice, really). Overall: If all you care about is having a reliable SUV with good gas mileage, this is it. It is more fun to drive than a lot of others in its class. However, if depreciation and interior room factors into your decision, I’d go a different route. There are better options for a family vehicle.

Great SUV!
My wife had a 2013 KIA Sportage, which I hated from the get go. We had to replace the fuel filter and things just got worse from there. Having it in the mechanics shop, we had a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Limited as a rental for a weekend. We then starting thinking about upgrading and purchasing a new vehicle. The search was on. We thought we loved the Jeep, but after a ton a research, we boiled it down to the Toyota Rav 4, Honda CRV, and the Mazda CX-5. We automatically ruled out the Honda because it didn't do it for us aesthetically. We test drove the Rav 4 but we found it too noisy, not very comfortable and mundane. Then we drove the Mazda CX-5. Wow! We loved the way it looked, handled and not to mention the great deal and warranty we were offered. We purchased the 2016.5 Touring trim with the tech package (Bose system, moon roof, heated seats) and couldn't be happier. We haven't used the navigation, which was thrown in on the deal, but wouldn't consider it a "deal-breaker". The Bose system took a little tweaking, as far as equing, and sounds great. We're musicians so it helps to know a little about equing. We love the moon roof and use it more than we thought we would. Seats are very comfortable, more so than most. We are getting excellent mpg. Interior design is impeccable. We have gotten so many compliments on the looks, inside and out. Storage is perfect and fits our equipment perfectly. That was a deal-breaker for us, of course. The CX-5 is so fun to drive, we look for every little excuse just to take it out for a spin. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone!

Great little SUV. Ride a bit on the stiff side.
Make sure to drive this SUV over bumpy roads to see if you can handle the ride. My wife drove it on freeway but not on rough road prior to buying car........she has a hard time riding/driving car. Front (cloth) seats could be more comfortable. Don't finance through dealer unless you want them to 'play games' with interest rates. Take the rebates and get your own financing. Bought from Bommarito Mazda South, St. Louis. Have credit score of 850. Finance manager first offered me rate of 3.5% for 60 months. When I told him I could do better at a local Credit Union, he offered me 2.59% for 63 months with the same bank. Didn't feel good. Probably has to do with 'hidden finance charges' which are commonly known as 'dealer reserve'. I believe this puts extra $ in the pocket of the finance guy. I don't have a problem with someone making $ but .....whatever happened to full disclosure?

Mazda Excellant CX-5
I have owned Audi's, Infiniti's and Toyotas as well and needed a vehicle for work. I performed quite a bit of research and the Mazda always stood out with excellent ratings. I had not even considered the Mazda but decided to take a good look. The value is amazing with all the options, safety features and fully loaded the vehicle was around $34,000. With the same options on a Lexus or Infiniti the cost was over $15,000 more. This vehicle is fun to drive, gets good gas mileage with regular 87 octane fuel, has automatic hi beam head lights that are the best I have had, automatic braking, automatic cruise control and is a great vehicle. I only have around 1,200 miles and a combination of city and highway. My neighbor has the same vehicle and loves it as well. The Mazda dealer also provides free oil changes, inspections and 15 car washes a year, plus a lifetime engine warranty. I am very pleased with Mazda. Update: Vehicle has $50,500 miles on it and have had no problems at all. Vehicle is like a tank in the snow as well with an excellent AWD system. As far as value goes there is no comparison with any other vehicle. Vehicle is sporty, handles well, zero wind noise on highway, no rattles or squeaks. Very pleased.
