Having the right tools for the job
I cant help but notice a lot of complaints over the mazda b2300 trucks. i have owned mine for 6 years now. i have never had parts fall off randomly in this time. i drove my truck off the lot with 10 miles on the odometer i have tried burying it in 3 ft of mud. i towed a ford f150 out of the mud that day(stock b2300 is a limited slip 2 wd vehicle)i have driven the oregon dunes, and river roads.only got stuck twice ever.I have put the truck in a drift coarse made of dirt/ gravel. drag raced it, pulled boats, trailers, wood hauls and more. if your truck is falling apart you might consider a rig more specialized to your driving needs but i cant imagine my P.U. failing in reasonable circumstance.
my first new truck
I can't speak for everyone, but I love this truck. It's my first new truck, and for what I use it for, I'm very happy with my choice. The 4.0L engine hasn't let me down yet, and no one can argue with the price. I know that there are more modern choices out there, but pick-ups are for working, not for Sunday driving. I see lots of people out there with these $35,000 dollar trucks, but ask them to move some lumber or furniture, and all they are worried about scratching the bed or the liner! I would recomend this truck to anyone who is a weekend warrior, young, or a small business owner (like myself). You can't argue with the reliability.
Your basic truck
The only options I purchased were automatic transmission and air. Everything else was standard right down to the rubber floor mats. This truck suits me perfectly. Reliable, good gas mileage and good looks for a work truck.
My Little Truck
Say what you want about the bigger boys but my Mazda B-Series 4x4 is all I'll ever need in a truck. And its basic styling, outdated or not, looks better than any of them. Okay, it doesn't ride like a Cadillac but it's a heck of a lot more comfortable than any compact 'jelly bean on wheels' that I've driven. Fuel economy isn't what I'd like it to be but that's the price you pay for a 4x4. This is my third B-Series in a row and after test driving the others, I see no reason why there won't be a fourth. My only fear is that Mazda will read some of those "expert reviews" and turn their truck into an ugly, overpriced Canyon, Dakota or Tacoma etc.
B4000 4x4
This truck is one of the last of the true "mini-trucks", designed to be reasonably priced, reliable and adequate for most everyday needs where practicality overrides so-called modern convenience features (heaven forbid if someone had to actually drive a truck and not be able to talk on their cell, drink a coffee, play with their GPS, etc.).
2007 Mazda B2300
Love this truck, good looking, clean lines, good mileage. Really fun to drive. Last one had over 350000 miles and was still running great.
Reliable but thirsty
I bought the 4.0 litre V6 with auto transmission because it could tow 6500 lbs, 3000 lbs more than the 5 speed manual. I tow a 3500 lb RV, sometimes with a 15 ft boat in tandem. This puts me at maximum combined payload & towing capacity but the truck is up to the task, if I take it easy: about 60 mph on the flats, up to 75 mph downhill. Towing in a headwind, the tranny constantly downshifts but turning the overdrive off helps keep it in 5th gear. A manual tranny would have been better, or more power. Mileage is not the best: about 19 mpg highway, much less in the city. I drive like an old guy, easy on the gas, coasting not braking, and at the speed limit. The truck is great otherwise.
Nice, compact, durable,good warrantee.
I bought this truck after selling my 02 Land Rover Discovery. A lot more reliable then Land Rover and a lot more utility being a pick-up. This truck handles better then my S-10 ZR2, Ford F-150, and Toyota Tundra.I needed a truck that would fit in the garage of my new house. Old house actually which is why garage is small.Mazda has 4/50 warrentee.Ranger 3/36.It has nicer looking trim as well. The truck is reliable, has a good size bed, and is FAST with the top 4.0 6 engine and 5 sp.Auto.Could be better on gas though, 15-17mpg is no bargain for a small truck. Main attraction for me was I didnt want another big, hard to park, harder to handle beast. Overall nice vehicle.
2007 Mazda B4000 4x4
This is an outstanding truck. However, even with the extended cab its strictly a two seater. We originally purchased it as a towing vehicle - we pull a 4,800lb travel trailer. I barely feel the trailer on the back. Nothing overly fancy, no, it doesn't offer leather seats etc., but it has a nice, crisp interior. Ride is a little stiff but very comfortable nonetheless, even on long hauls. It's built like a tank. Compact size is great in town and out. I'm too old for recreational off-roading but I do drive on rough back 'roads' (more like paths) and in lots of snow and this truck has never come close to getting stuck. We love it - my wife just traded her car in for her own 2008.
Mazda trucks
As an owner of a 2004 B3000 dual sport, this is my seventh Mazda truck that I have owned, all of them new except one, which I traded in for my dual sport. None of these truck have given me any problems at all. I like the feel, comfort, and performance that Mazda builds. I have owned a 1997 Chevy Z-71 and had problems with the transmission, so I went back to Mazda and will not own any other make truck. Mazda makes a very reliable vehicle, and with the look of the dual sport, it is very attractive. Mine is silver and love every moment I get behind the wheel.
My B2300
What I like about my truck. It has always started, gets pretty good mileage for a pick-up truck. I nearly always get 28 mpg combined town and highway. I've acheived 33 mpg on road trips and maintain 24 MPG in the mountains, which is where I reside. Handles good. Transmission is geared properly for various types of driving. Wish it had more power, but then mileage would suffer, so I'll take miles per gallon over horse power. I am very happy with my Mazda B2300 purchase.
Eric's review
Very good vehicle to drive and haul light stuff in. The vehicle could be better at gas mileage, however the horsepower is worth it.
A Winner
This truck is affordable, reliable, and a blast to drive. The performance is great and this little truck is powerful for its class. Exterior and interior design is fantastic and stylish. I can't say enough good things about this truck!
2008 Mazda 2300
Recently purchased, so far so good. Fun little truck that is great on fuel. With today's fuel prices, I was looking for a compact truck for light work that was easy on gas. I found it!
Plain truck for real men
Needed a work truck. Got it and more. 5-speed, AMFM, cruise, split rear window, rear bumper, bed liner in a simple truck. Bench seat is a real winnder. Rides and handles like a truck.. do we have a problem here? Reliable, long warranty. Choose over its twin, the Ford Ranger for a better price and longer warranty.
Mazda 4wd sport truck
Back seats suitable for children only. Great for towing trailer. Used with lightweight camper. Very good gas mileage. Still running great with 100,000 miles plus. Biggest down side is rusting of frame. Cleaned / sandblastef once, undercoated every few years still rust is advancing. Think rust of frame will be its demise. Update-frame rusted through in several places. The rest of the vehicle was still in very good operating condition. Engine and transmission no problems. Still running great after 90,000 miles. Biggest fault is tendency for undercarriage rust. Other problem area, replaced 4wd actuator twice. UPDATED 8/11/2019 Attempted several times to have airbags replaced at dealer. Was told the parts are back ordered and I would be notified when available, this was over a year ago. Seems they really are not interested in doing this.

Love my B2300
Bought my B2300 based on Customer Reviews and the fact that it's an American made truck. Wanted a sturdy compact truck and got exactly what I asked for!
Truck
Nice truck for its size good style and ability. Has a little bit of sports car built in.
Disappointed with Truck
As someone who puts a truck through its paces 6 days a week on rough, dirt roads, I have been somewhat disappointed with this vehicle. I've had one side mirror replaced that wouldn't hold its position, one headlight which was loose, the rear pinion seal replaced twice, the mud flaps on the rear replaced and modified (the lip on the bottom of the flaps hold mud and snow and the weight pulls the flap off since they are not attached except by one bolt and two screws), I am currently waiting for a replacement valve on the top of the fuel tank that sometimes prevents fuel from entering the fuel tank at a normal speed. Even the service manager is unhappy with this truck's number of problems!
Bummed with this truck
I've driven many trucks over the years while delivering mail in a rugged, rural area and was told by the dealer this truck "would hold up" under the tough conditions I put them through. Not true! The mud flaps are long gone being attached with flimsy plastic fasteners and small screws, in addition to a mud holding pocket design. They put a fuel vent underneath the truck that plugs with mud/snow so it's next to impossible to fill it with fuel. When in deep snow the radiator gets covered with snow and the truck looses power & stops. Shifting has become very difficult, and the radio works poorly. I'm going back to a Toyota or Nissan 4x4 truck-- this one needs to stay on the highway!!
Great truck
Bought brand new $43xxx. As of today, no problems since Mazda now stopped making trucks. Would buy a ranger since they're the same except in name and some minor features
2003 B3000
I have a 2003 B2000 model which currently only has 900 miles, so it's early to rate some things. I dislike, however, the seat belt retractor, which almost always gets tangled up and I have to undo it. Power seems good and it's easy to handle. I previously owned a Ford Ranger for 10 years and loved it, but had similiar problems with seat belt. My mpg was much better on the Ranger, although it was a 5-speed 4 cylinder, which my new truck is an automatic 6 cylinder.
One of the best vehicles I've owned
This is a very basic truck, but that's one of the things I like about it. I inherited the truck from the original owner. It was meticulously maintained by the previous owner and myself. It was purchased brand new by said first owner, and it has always run like a top. With the exception of a battery replacement, it has never broken down. I put about 20,000 miles on it in the last year, and it has maintained mpg (around 28 for the v6), never overheated (despite 7 trips in 6 months between Oregon and Los Angeles), and still runs smooth as silk. The only issue has been that the air conditioner no longer works, but I'm sure it's a recharge issue (living in the Pacific Northwest, it doesn't concern me). In short, it's a great truck, and I will keep it and continue to maintain it until it outlives itself, after which I will look for another (either Mazda b3000 or a ford ranger of similar year).

Not getting another one...
This truck ran great the first year and a half I had it. Then it started idling very rough. Then the engine light came on. It took a while for the mechanic to figure out what the problem was because of how few miles were on it. I ended up having to replace the entire top end, (heads, valves, ect...) at 78000 miles. I did not overheat it or abuse it. Also, I found out that is is just a re-badged Ranger. Many parts that I have replaced are not for a Mazda B3000 but for a Ford Ranger. I reliably get 18 mpg out of it. The doors rattle and the rear end tends to hop alittle unloaded on rough dirt roads.
is this a Ford or Mazda
Mazda truck costs less than the sister look-a-like Ford; Mazda is a "A" series of the Ford Ranger, gives very poor fuel economy, very little comfort and very expensive to repair.
LEMON
The vehicle has left me stranded over and over. It is on its third fuel pump; the service dept has been appalling. The cab makes it difficult to back up because poor visibility. I would not recommend this product to anyone. As a consumer I am dissatisfied with the lack of concern Mazda corp. has shown. Can you say Lemon!
Don't sell this one short!
Great truck!.......No problems at all! Runs like a champ!..Nice ride for a pickup......Would recomend it to anyone needing a small pickup.
the under rated truck
in the time ive owned my truck i have never had a problem, also i have not seen any used in the area but i see them on the road all the time a friend of mine said that he keeped his because it has never let him down and still keeps on runing their is something to be said about a truck that is still around long after people trade in their trucks because they are unhappy. i highly dissagree with edmunds review of the mazda trucks cons
mazda truck
This is a good compact truck that is relatively cheap. It does everything most people will need except for large towing. A great entry level truck. The gas mileage is very poor. 5 speed automatic transmission seems to have problems slipping. overall a good truck.
Great Truck
Perfect reliability, 18 to 20 mpg, this truck was a good deal when I bought it and has been everything I could ask for since. I traded in a 3 liter Ford Ranger I called the turtle because the motor (and transmission) was such a slug but the 4.0 is a much better powerplant and the mated automatic transmission is a world better as well. It tows a trailer quite well and has now been across country and back twice. Not plush but a great workhorse truck.
Great!
This little truck will get you from A to B with no problems. That is what I bought it for...that's what it does. It was pre-owned but sure looks and feels like new!
Gas saving hauler!
I really can't complain, it always starts in the coldest weather. It gets over 30 mpg on the highway. It gets a lot of looks. I think it is better looking than the Ford Ranger that it is based on. It has an awesome A/C system. It does sit up almost as high as some other marques 4x4s.
Solid, Fun Drive
This is a great little truck. I bought it used with 60K miles and it still feels very tight with no squeaks or rattles. The 5 speed and clutch are smooth with good spacing between the gears. ABS brakes are excellent. The 4 cylinder is more than adequate for normal driving and gets decent mileage. While far from plush, the interior is very livable. Seating is firm with good support and is comfortable on long trips. Controls, A/C and ventilation are excellent and there's plenty of leg room for six footers. A practical truck that's also lots of fun to drive.
My Baby
Truck is great, just should have gotten a liner with it but thats my fault not theirs. I love this truck, Its a small reliable truck with enough space to hull pretty much what ever you want. Its fun to drive and has some get up and go for a four banger.
good truck
engine replaced while still under warranty @ approx. 38000 miles

B2300
I purchased my truck online. I researched several brands, including the sibling Ford Ranger XL. I did not care for the Chevy or GMC/Colorado/Canyon. The Mazda had an excellent warranty and a $3000.00 cash back incentive. It works for me!
A good value
I paid $18,300 for this truck brand new. There are probably better small trucks out there, but not at this price. For what I paid, I'm quite happy.
2005 madza b2300
this is a good little truck if you are not interested in serious power and durability.
Unimpressed
Truck had some power for a mini pick-up but over all the quality of this Ranger rebadged as a Mazda is sad. Mazda had a good truck before Ford tinkered with it. I have been a loyal Mazda driver for many years now but this one I would have to pass on.
L'ttle Truck
It is a peppy little truck and comfortable to me. I like the look of the B3000 and had a bedliner sprayed in. Fuel rateings don't quite make it. I'm getting 18mpg. on the highways with this V6.
mazda b3000 dual sport
My experience has been great although mine does seem to use a bit more gas than I thought it would.
Modifications Needed
The exterior design of the Mada B3000 truck is awesome. The interior of the truck resembles that of a Ford Ranger which is something that is not appreciated. I consider Mazda to be an outstanding motomobile company that needs not to "copy" the interior design of competetive automobile industries. For what is worth, My Mazda extended cab B3000 series trucks is something that I am currently happy with. Although I would not mind changing the interior of it. This is my second Mazda pick-up.
Mazda Truck 4000
Mine is a Model 4000 V-6; Bought this little Truck in Feb. 2003, wanted a Ford Ranger Edge but they didn't have the 2 rear drs. w/the 4.0 litre V- 6.However the looks are great! Some minor complaints are: 1. I avg. only 18.5 mpg., 2. There is no map light. 3. The seat fabric stains too easy. 4. The door ajar light came on when I turned left, or curved left. 5. I had to turn the front brake rotors already. Good items are: 1.Power Galor! 2. Fun to drive 3.My Golf Clubs fit perfectly in the rear of cab. 4.and Boy does it carry a load!
Great Truck for the Money
This is the 2nd Mazda truck I have owned and I am pleased with the overall quality, better warranty than the Ranger and Mazda dealers put Ford to shame in service. Fuel economy could be better and the 5 speed auto is alittle slow to respond but overall quality is awesome. Mazda only problem seems to be keeping dealers in stock on trucks.
Million Mile Truck
I wouldn't own any othe truck. No one is putting more than 200 horse power in a compact 4d4 truck and offering a manual transmission and a tow package for less than $20,000. My 2001 is going strong after 650,000 miles with no major problems. Engines runs as good as new and has never been worked on.
4WD 4Dr B4000
Had an 01 for 3 years without any compaints. Had this one for 2 months and could not be more pleased with its performance.
love my truck
have only had the truck for a few weeks but fell in love with the minute i saw it on the internet. had to have it!
Quite the truck.
I bought this 2007 B2300 in 2010 with 10,000 miles on it. It now has 110,000 miles on it. I have gone through 2 sets of tires, changed oil and filter every 4,000 miles, and hauled mulch a cubic yard at a time. This truck continually runs well. It has met or exceeded every other truck that I have owned (4) and will probably be my last one considering my age.
