Better than an Accord
I have a 2003 Honda Accord Coupe and a 2004 Mazda6. Mazda6 wins in reliability and usability than the Honda hands down. However the Honda scores in engine power and feel of the car (partly because it is a 2.4 L coupe). I think the Honda gives a better mileage too. However the Mazda is awesome when it comes to reliability as I have not had to spend anything on it since I have owned it (fingers crossed!). I prefer the ride quality over Honda because of the quite engine and zippy steering.
Mazda 6 drinks + than I do, big problem
I just bought a brand new mazda 6 2004. Performance exceptional. Only two things... first it drink more than I do. Also can't get warmed when temperature exceed -20 c°. Beside that I can't ask for more from a sport sedan.

Almost Bought One
I agonized over my Altima vs. 6 decision last March and ended up with the Alt. Just recently, I rented for a 6 and this convinced me that I made the right choice. The 6 is nice and sporty, but the Altima is more handsome and just all around nicer to drive. I didn't like the 6's seats back then and I still don't.
Fun to Drive (true zoom-zoom)
[I hate driving in the crazy, stop and go, permanent-construction Denver metro traffic.] So, I opted for the automatic with sequential shift. Although I gave up quite a bit of manual-shift punch (I drove that one, too), the car is really fun to drive. I push this thing to its tire-screeching limits (no joke), but the car just begs for more. If it lasts five years the way I drive, I'll be seriously impressed with Mazda.
A Great Five Months
I bought this car in September 2004, and after five months, I still smile when I see it. As my first new car, I was pleased with the price, options, and Mazda's warranty. Other reviews I've read mention tight seating in the back, but I've yet to hear a complaint. Coming from a hatchback, one of my top priorities was ample trunk space -- the Mazda 6 trunk is huge! The exterior styling is beautiful -- I think it's the best looking car in its class.
