Currently have 142,000 miles, original clutch, transmission, broke timing chain at 74,000 miles, air conditioner too costly to switch over to new coolant. Great car, wife calls it her "Putt Putt". 30+ MPG on highway and around 28 in town. Regular maintenance, batteries, tires, etc.

Obviously this is an older model (going on 29 years), but if you can find one in good condition with low miles, it won't disappoint. I often have people approach me when parking to say they had this model before and loved it, or to ask if I would be willing to sell it. With regular routine maintenance, it stills runs like new. UPDATE: This car is now 31 years old. A heater coil leak shorted the dashboard computer (who knew a 1990 car had a computer??), causing fuel intake problems; a rebuilt computer (with a shield to protect against future leaks) fixed this . . . and it still runs like new! UPDATE: The car is now 33 years old and running fine. Passed the smog test last month!! UPDATE: 34-1/2 years old and running great--just took it on a 300 mile overnight trip. UPDATE: 35 years old. Passed another smog test. Shortly afterward, needed a minor repair for radiator hose leaking coolant on the distributor and causing engine stalling. New radiator (it was also leaking) and hoses, and still running like new!

First Car

My father bought this car for me for $100 and at first i thought that it would be beat up and unreliable. I was wrong, this car is very reliable and the gas mileage is great. I am currently in high school so don't wish to spend all my money on gas. I love the car so much I even named her "Rhonda"! The only thing that went out was the distributor but it wasn't a big deal. This car is great and perfect for a first car. So far , the mileage is 156,799.

They don't make it like that anymore

My family bought the car in 1991 as a family car. We got the 4door version Since then the vehicle has proved itself as a spacious, capable, dependable mover. We have traveled from Greece to Italy to Turkey with no concerns over its reliability, despite already counting 15 years and 250000+km on its odometer. Today even though it is no longer the main family car it surprises me with its relative economy, lively engine (though there are major oil leaks that demand regular oil checks), and large passenger and baggage spaces that even today's cars often lack. I even though of getting it from my fathers and turning it int 4WD with new engine.

I got here by accident and since I own a pre-owned Mazda 323, decided to say something good about this car. Very reliable car. I like it a lot. It *is* really fun to pass with this car big super-duper 8 cylined SUVs on winding mountain roads!
