GAS MILEAGE

I see people here having concerns about gas mileage in the RXh and feel I might have some advice. I am on my second hybrid SUV from Lexus and also owned an LS. The first thing lots of people do not seem to realize is that in order to extend your gas mileage in any car, including hybrids, YOU HAVE TO KEEP THAT HEAVY FOOT OFF THE ACELERATOR! Driving faster than a maximum of 65 will diminish your mileage, also driving in hilly terrain, fast take-offs, your AC usage, incorrect tire pressure, and otherwise rough handling. In addition, you have to go into the RXs' information setting and reset the gas mileage indicator to see the true mileage. Hope this helps.

I had planned on buying an rx450h tomorrow. It was a great looking car that I have driven a couple of different times, so can't rate that. But i did want to talk about the 'gas' math. In 2021, it is $0.56 more per gallon for premium and regular gas. The RX450h has a 17.2 gallon tank. So at this date, it is a full $10 more per tank. I fill up every 2 to 3 weeks. So $10 spread across time ... IDK if it's worth a serious argument. HOWEVER, I want this car to travel ... up to 1000 miles at a time. I used to take a silverado that got 22 miles per gallon on those trips and was hoping for some savings. With premium gas, that will be about the same cost with the lexus with much more comfort. If we just use round numbers and say you will get 500 gallons per tank (presuming 30 mpg), that is a per mile cost of .099 if you could use regular gas and .119 per mile for premium. So, about 2 cents per mile difference for premium over regular gas. If you want to assume 400 miles per tank, That is $0.124 per mile at regular gas, while premium would be $0.148 per mile. About 2.5 cents per mile difference. Is that expensive? depends on your driving habits. If you drive 10 miles a day, it is $1.48 on the high end, $1.19 on the lower end. If you drive hundreds of miles, it's way more. For a 60 mile trip, it is $8.88 with premium, $7.44 with regular gas (using the 400 miles per tank figures). For a 600 mile trip, add a zero to all the numbers... $88.80 premium and 74.40 regular ... $14.40 difference. There have definitely been times where that $14.40 is a big difference. Thankfully, that's just one less fast food meal these days, that I don't need anyway. I used to drive a corolla and got 40 miles per gallon on the highway, so I'm going to have to spend more unless I go back to a corolla. Since discovering this premium gas requirement, I haven't decided if I will change my purchase decision. But with the cost of gas discussion in the comments, thought i would put some numbers out there.
