Surprising Value
I am pleasantly surprised by the quality, comfort and performance of this vehicle. Mileage in town is about 23.5 mpg and highway hovers around 29.5. In full automatic mode the car accelerates at a moderate pace, but using the auto-stick really kicks it in gear. Adequate in-car capacity (although I would recommend covering the seat backs if you haul anything that may snag them). Seat comfort and adjustability offer enough range for just about anyone. I am glad I bought this vehicle.
Almost perfect
If the front seats were built better, this would be the perfect vehicle. It is the perfect size, gets about 25 mpg which is good for a 4wd, has great visibility, and well designed flexibility in loading the interior. It is a real blast to drive, and getting used to the CVT transmission didn't take as long as I expected. So far, I have not discovered any factory defects and this Jeep really seems tight - no squeaks or rattles. This is built much better than other Chrysler products that I have owned. However, the front seats are thinly padded over a hard shell. There are no springs and, consequently, no give in the seats. Bumps telescope directly to your spine through your tail bone.

Jeep Fundamentals
Having traded a supercharged Grand Prix for a 4 cyl. 1.5 ton vehicle, I was a little weary about losing the performance I enjoyed. I was shocked with the performance of the Jeep and bought the vehicle after further review of reliability and economy. It won't be setting any land speed records; however, buying a 4X4 setting speed records should be of least concern. The Patriot has 600 miles now and averages 24-26 mpg including 4X4 use from a recent snow. All controls are easily located and the steering wheel controls are very handy since my GP had a similar set up. The Patriot handles like a car, but strong winds can push the Jeep. Chose the Patriot for the traditional Jeep look. A+ Jeep
Looks are Everything- Perfect Suv
I feel in love with the cars exterior. Then the Interior. Then the sound system. Then the fuel efficiency. Then warranty. Then the price. Need i say more. The car is the best in its class. Drives great!
Love it - highly recommended
We needed a new vehicle that would accommodate our two growing children and something that had decent mileage for my 134 mile daily round trip work commute. Honda Fit and other like vehicles didn't offer free safety features such as side impact airbags and A/C were considered OPTIONAL. We were floored when we found the Jeep Patriot (base model.) It offered more room, the standard features that we needed, really good gas mileage, and a fun, TONKA toy kind of ride. On this last tank of gas we averaged 26.8 MPG! Being in the NOLA area, I also wanted something big enough to sleep in if we had to evacuate:) You get a heck of a lot of bang for your buck with a Jeep Patriot!
I like it!!!
Well, you won't win any races with this Jeep. But it is a solid little SUV. In the Texas hill country yesterday and it did very well in the hills with the auto shift. First tank I got 23 mpg. Not bad on the open road. Very smooth at 75.
Love My Patriot
I have been extremely pleased with my new Patriot. On a recent trip (interstate driving) I was shocked to get a little over 28 miles per gallon. The jeep handles well on mountain roads and so far the 4wd has preformed in all situations, even though I did not get the Trail-rated editon. The room inside is generous and comfortable. I'm glad I opted for the manual transmission.
Loving It!
So after looking at the Chevy Equinox, Pontiac Torrent, Mazda5 and a few others, Jeep had the best lease terms and no doubt the absolute best warranty in the business, which led us to lease this truck 1 wk ago. So far so good, it's fun to drive with the euroshift making up for it's lack of spunk when passing, a little down shifting goes a long way. My own complaints are that it's 2008 and you can still lock yourself out of the car with THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION! I've already done it, if you hit the lock down manually by accident while getting out too bad!! Also the cup holders are in a stupid spot and the tailgate door is super low. I'm 5'10" and I've hit my head a few times already
HIGHLY recommended!!!
A pleasure to own and drive. Appears well-built, have experienced no faults or issues and no minor irritations. I really like the CVT transmission but only with the autostick (manual override) which allows you to use the engine as a downhill brake and provides for smoother engine operation on a long uphill ride (plus a fun component if you are getting bored). Everything being considered, I cant think of a better vehicle.
Don't Waste Time Researching - By This
Great vehicle. Researched Ford Escape and all other small SUV's and the Patriot is the best value even if gas goes up to $5 a gallon. No need for you to repeat my research. Been getting about 21.5 mpg on the first tank mostly city driving though. Sharp vehicle, with really great handling, I can get it into tight spaces. Have your cake and eat it to with this SUV. Can't wait to see how it will perform in the snow.
mmmmmm.......Jeep
My fiancee and I bought our Patriot in March of this year. We love the fact that it meets or exceeds the gas mileage on the window sticker every time. Another great aspect of the Patriot is the utility. The fold-flat passenger seat and the 115 watt inverter along with the Yes Essentials seats and rechargeable flashlight are priceless. We have a small family and a limited budget and couldn't have spent our money more wisely.
Best kept secret out there for an SUV
Everyone is abandoning SUVs because of the bad MPG and costs overall to purchase. So, I figured I would see if there was a "steal" out there in the mass exodus/hype to leave SUVs. And, I found one. I got my Patriot (a complete base model that now in 2008 at least has AC standard) for $12,400 after rebates, incentives and military discount. Just drove it 220 miles across parts of Carolina and got 33 MPG highway going 65 mph. It's manual transmission, which is fine with me. Windows, locks are manual -- again, OK with me. The best thing is the larger engine (4.2) gets better MPG with manual transmission The only complaint is that options add up FAST, which is why I kept it basic.
hmmmmm
I purchased this 2008 jeep patriot 4x4 sport model with 46,000 miles on it for $2,500. so I can not complain much. However, the first drive, I knew there was a front end problem....but I got an easy 5K miles before I took the car in to have the new tires patched and was told the inner front tire was nearly bald. I noted this but did not do an alignment at that time.....a few weeks later, I took it in to be looked at and scheduled an alignment. at this time, I was told the car needed new lower control arms/ball joint replacement at the tune of $755. I then did some research and am sad to see that even at 50,000 miles, this is a frequent problem with this little jeep, as are multiple other suspension issues:-( for the price, I will keep the jeep for a bit, but will probably be trading it off soon before it soaks up more money. I was trying to avoid car payments long enough to save to pay cash for next SUV or truck, at this rate, may not make it to that point. Overall, minus these expenses, it is good on gas, 4x4, room for dog or to sleep in back and it has gotten me around on several road trips in the 4 months I have owned it and has been good on gas. I do not like the lack of power, and lack of faith I have in the mechanics of this car though it is not built well unfortunately. I am hoping for a full year driving it around but this will be the last money I will put into it if the reviews ring true it will probably need more repairs soon at 50k miles which is ridiculous and will force me to trade it it or give it away.

Odd size tires?
This is more of a Question why do my tires even the sticker on the door say my patriot tire size is 207/70 r16? Every website or manual I’ve seen has said completely different sizes? Other than that I’d say it’s an OKAY truck I’ve basically rebuilt almost everything at this point. I got it at 36,000 I now have 165,000 i got it in October 2010 - I do a lot of driving & it’s comfy and anything that’s gone wrong are things that would go wrong on any vehicle with that much use. I love my jeep I wish they never stopped making the patriot.

problem from the start
I bought my Jeep Patriot in April 2008, i have had problems ever since i drove it off the lot. To date the electronic clutch has been replaced, the master cylinder and booster has been replaced, the windshield has been resealed, front power windows don't stop when button released, right rear hub and bearing assembly replaced, basically this jeep has been a nightmare we traded a very good mini van for this jeep and I'm left with a lemon and cant make lemonade, I asked the dealership to take it back when they told us two months after we bought it the type of repairs needed, the said THEY WERE NOT IN THE BUSINESS OF RETURNING VEHICLES, well I'm not in the business of buying lemons.
I don't recommend the Patriot!
I specifically purchased the Patriot to help save on fuel costs. I should have stayed with my old car. It costs a little more to fill up per week but had a bigger tank. When merging into traffic, I always need to look over my shoulder to check traffic due to the blind spots. There are only 4 cup holders in this car, and no coin holder. I feel like they didn't think anything through before getting this car out to the public. I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone. I have always had Jeep Grand Cherokees in the past, but I would never get a Jeep Patriot again.
poor
Loud noise, poorly designed, no locks on glove box , gas milage not as good as they say, can't wait to get rid of it. It's like driving a tank can't hear the radio, engine noise is loud, comfort level not there. Can't drink a cup of coffee in the dark, cup holders out of the way, can't find them.
cheap
Find that it makes a lot of noise on the highway and the engine shakes and rattles. The Interior Design is poor, hard to get at any thing. I would not buy North American again
Junk 08 Jeep Patriot
I bought my jeep April and it was the worst thing I Ive done in my life. The transmission went at around 1000 miles. Im up to 8000 miles now 3 new transmissions in vehicle. The PCM went in the vehicle and the trans still doesnt shift correctly. When you drive it the engine constantly revs to 6.5 rpm while which gives 16 mpg highway. 23 to 28 mpg thats a laugh. Its a lemon.
New 2014 Patriot and problems already
My husband went golfing today in his NEW Jeep Patriot and when he started to come back home (less than 200 miles total on the car) the Jeep would not shift into first or second gears! Already we have had it into the dealership for repairs! Not at all what we expected when we bought a NEW vehicle from Jeep! It appears that the clutch cable 'came loose' and had to be reattached! HOW can that happen??? I hope this is NOT a pattern or we will be extremely unhappy - and since we are Jeep lovers, this would NOT be good! My son has 2 Grand Cherokees - VERY happy with them, and we also have a Jeep Liberty - which I drive and dearly love! PLEASE JEEP - keep our faith in your company! FIX IT!
Love this car, just not the cheap interior
My Patriot is actually a FWD automatic, there just wasn't an option for it. I bought this car with 100,000 km on it and have had no problems in the two years since, and am now at 154,000 km two years later. Gas mileage is alright, if I drive 110 everywhere I get 500 km on a tank (when the gas light comes on). It's awesome for trips as it can hold four people and all their luggage easily, but the seats are a little hard. Despite all this, its been a good vehicle and I plan on keeping it till it dies.
Best Kept Secret
Bought my Jeep Patriot in Nov. and at 6,000 miles it has been great. Just as tough as the old Cherokees with same styling outside but updated "under the hood. Great gas mileage and performs better than most SUVs in snow. Very little wind shear on the highway when it's windy unlike many others. Bit of noise from smaller engine but plenty of pep. Only dislike is Jeep/Chrysler playing the "maintenance" game and requiring plugs at about 30,000 miles when many makers go 60,000 plus. Also use of a timing belt rather than a timing chain like Suzuki is an expense at 60,000 miles that could cost $$$. It boils down to Jeep/Chrysler wanting more bucks for the dealer to do more frequent work.
