Nice to own
Went on a trip just after buying the Jeep. I was impressed with the fuel mpg. It got 30 mpg on average. I had a small oil leak on the transfer case but got fixed under warranty. Other then it`s been fine. Put about 4500 km on that trip in one week with no problems at all.
Well loved Liberty
We have had our Liberty for about 2 months and I love it!We got the color that we wanted and a 6 speed manual transmission, which is rare. When we bought it, the reason was that I needed a small SUV with 4x4 for our lovely CO winters that sometimes play jokes on traffic. In the short time that we have had it we have only had a flat tire which was my fault. Our fuel economy has been wonderful!! Better than my husband expected at about 25- 29 mpg depending on how much I put my foot into it. It has also helped us get out on the weekends for family outings. Taking the dog is easy, too. Maybe we have great luck with this SUV, but it is well made and tons of fun to drive!

Best in class
Nothing in its class comes close! The others can't tow 5k lbs and can't go offroad. Great all around vehicle
Fun but too small for my growing family!
I've had no issues with this Jeep. Just routine maintenance and oil changes. It's fun to drive and has good power. I'm 6'5" and the sets are uncomfortable for me. When I ride shotgun, my knees hit the handle/dash area. My wife says the same thing and she is 5'7". We take long trips (8 hrs) and it drives great but is hvery uncomfortable. We're trading it in since we'll be having baby #2 soon. This was fine for 1 baby but not 2 kids. Too cramped and there'll be no room left when traveling. Also don't spill liquids on the seats b/c the stains will not come out! I've tried everything and all detail shops say this fabric is hard to clean.
Lemon
My 05 Liberty diesel was in the shop for four of the first six weeks I owned it. It had to be towed 3 times for starting issues and could not be taken though any car wash as it would stall and not start again for 6-8 hours. It had an oil leak which was never fixed and the Chrysler Rep. from St. Louis was as rude and inconsiderate person as I have ever met. This was a very unfortunate situation that could have been handled much differently to keep a loyal Chrysler fan happy. Chrysler needs to take a close look at their customer service issues. Good bye Chrysler, Love my new Toyota!
What a Jeep in Diesel !
This is the best thing to happen to any small suv. After driving this 4 cylinder diesel for two years I still am surprised at the power it delivers. What a shame Jeep does not offer the diesel in the 08 line-up for Liberty.
The Bumps & Grinds of my Liberity
Mostly I have stayed away from Jeeps but I saw a Diesel engine with a 5 speed automatic trans. I should have remembered American engineers can't mate diesel engines to auto transmissions, they do not understand torque. Problems, Turbo, fuel filter housing, trans filters(not covered $285) and a lot of odds and ends, rattles & squeaks. Sounds like a 40 year old station wagon. On trips I can pass some fuel stations but not many rest stops, the constant jarring of the little bumps in the road seem to magnify to my back and bottom. My travel range per day has been cut in half, but I do get a better chance to see America. It will haul a 4200 lb trailer 2600 miles each way at about 19 mpg.
Jeep liberty renagade 3.7 L.
Since I had the pleasure of owning this great 05 Jeep Liberty Renagade, it has been the most versatile, dependable, comfortable vehicle that I have had the opportunity to own. It definitely lives up to its heritage. If I had to do all over again, I would have purchased it sooner. This definitely is the vehicle I chose as my last buy. Try it you will love the ride

16 years and still going strong
I have never kept a car past the 10yr mark, but this one just turned 16! Until about 5yrs ago, I did not have to have any major work done and the work I had done, was to prevent any major repairs. I had only had to buy tires and change the oil for 15yrs. Still a great car that I now use to haul the dog in. It's got great headroom, has always handled great and you cannot beat the turning radius.

It was what I was looking for, I didn't know it
I bought my 2005 Jeep Liberty back around 2015 to replace a dying GMC blazer type vehicle. The JEEP LIBERTY was surprisingly fun do drive, like my 83 AMC EAGLE SX4 was. The Jeep has power, manuverabily is fabulous. This model was known for some problems such as electrical issues, mostly connections, and yes, I have had some come up. It has the rear upgrade (trailor hitch addition) for some crash recall. The cloth seats were not a hit with most buyers but mine held up well over 100k miles. I absolutely love the hard material used for the dash. Cleans up so easily, no stains, no cracks, looks as it did when new. Let me repeat that, NO CRACKS IN THE DASH. Those complaining about not having a soft dash, you bought the wrong car, this is a JEEP. The motor has a pronounced Growl when running, esp when you give it the gas. Yup there are complainers about the ride too. Honestly folks, you have to research your buys or take what you get and shut up. Daimler/Chrysler told the consumer that this was NOT your conventional ride, that it had a tougher suspension and the ride was not luxurious. You missed that huh? ha ha. joke on you then. UPDATE Aug 4, 2024 The Jeep Liberty is uppon 150,000 miles now. Using a Lucas additive, the engine growl is almost gone, runs smooth and vibration free. Great running transmission (was rebuilt 2 years back from prev owner abuse). I have had the front bearings replaced (you have to replace the entire assembly) And, yes, it has had a couple of the electrical problems come up, one was feed to the radio, I just fund another feed to wire to, and the driver side door locks do not work automatically anymore. they are manual now. Not that big a deal. The cloth seat covers are ok but they look dirty all the time. Even if water gets on them, they look like something bad spilled on them, and it does not wash out easily. It looks terrible most the time and it isn't because they are dirty. This was one material Daimler/Chrysler should have avoided. Finally had the Cat replaced, replaced the rear end gears and bearings. and we replaced the oil pan. My advice, rust proof that oil pan with mineral oil as fast and as soon as you can and keep up on it, get the frame and pumpkin cover as well as any adjustible parts. Rust is not your friend. The doors have the common rust out along the bottom and under car about where the rear doors are. If you have doors that are not showing rust, get that mineral oil INSIDE the doors in that bottom and side crimp seam. Guaranteed, rust is in there working on your metal. and the Mineral Oil will seep into the porus rust and well basically stave the rusting action. anywhere you see rust, hit it with mineral oil. I have to replace the splashes under there as they are gone from rust. One thing you might be interested in, is the cable from the transmission to the gear shift. At the very least, check it at the transmission but I advise replacing it. The transmission end has a PLASTIC ball that fits in a lever on the trans. That plastic will wear down and at some point (as it did me) will slip out of the lever, then you are stuck. It is not in a easily accessible place, you most likely cannot fix it on the road, and it can/and will, fail at any time due to the wear on the plastic ball. Having gone through the extreme up keep what do I have? I have a handy, reliable (for the most part) 4wD car. The engine and transmission run sweet, it still isn't all that bad looking if you over look the door rust, and is running strong. IF you dare to find one of these, read my update closely above and according to past owners, DO NOT GET THE DIESEL VERSION. Most former owners ran the diesel engine until the warrentee was up then they dumped them. The Jeep Liberty was not my car of choice when I first saw it, but it really is a fun car to drive once you understand, and have taken care of the bugs. They are not over whelming but may be expensive to repair. The Jeep Liberty is as much fun to drive as my AMC EAGLE SX4 was, and I have more storage space in back. Again, warning, THIS IS NOT YOUR GRANDFATHERS CAR. It does not ride like a car, it has a tighter suspension, you WILL FEEL the bumps. The engine is not the stock engine, it does run well, but it Roars and you will have to add an additive to quiet it down. Yes it has a hard material on the dash, It Wont crack, get over it, This is not your grandfathers car. When you keep up on the maintenance, this car is reliable, it is fun to drive and it has 4wD. What a deal. If you are complaining about the ride, the bumps or the hard plastic dash, MOVE ON. This isn't for you and you bought the wrong car. Let someone else buy it and enjoy it. Thank you for reading my review of my 2005 Jeep LIBERTY, one of the most fun cars I have ever had.

This baby's gonna last longer than me.
I've had my 2005 Liberty since 2008 and it has never been in the shop. My hubby did all the minor things, new water pump and timing belt, A/C recharge, brakes and oil changes. That is all I have ever had to do to "Miss Lib". I was thinking I should trade before things go wrong, but realized you don't replace a blessing. This car is gonna go longer than me!

CRD was a loser
I purchased this Jeep liberty CRD new. Just after I got it they had a recall for the front wheel bearings and the torque converter and transmission front pump. Both were replaced under warranty. The next thing to go bad was the EGR valve which went bad after 35,000 miles. It was replaced under warranty. At about 45,000 miles I started having problems with the boost pressure sensor getting loaded up with carbon. I cleaned this and reinstalled and would go bad over and over. the EGR air flow control went bad, known to every one else as a throttle body. NOT covered under warranty. Last thing the fuel filter mount required to be replaced by Chrysler but will not pay or it. Good riddance Chrysler
1st Time Jeep Owner
We plan to tow this Jeep with a 36 foot diesel motor home. Have been towing a Chevy Tracker 1999 model. Looking forward to enjoying comfort, reliability and appearance of our new 2005 Jeep.
LOVE MY LIBERTY
I love my Limited Liberty so much i bought out my lease from a 2002. It got me through tough driving conditions through Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne. Many trips hauling plywood and heavy material on the roof. Easy access to taking things off roof. High enough off the ground to keep water out of doors through our disaster. Able to go over broken tree limbs in the street without hurting the undercarriage. Headroom roomy enough for 5 tall adults. Fits in single car garage with lots of room to spare due to it length and width. Sunroof operates easily for driving. Location of all dash instruments at driver's finger tips. Stereo volume controls on steering wheel so you never have to look off the road. Phonecharger.
CRD buyers take heed!
I have experienced a 50mph shudder which we believe is a flaw in the design of the torque converter, since day 1. DC has finally admitted to me that they know about the problem but can do NOTHING for it. So there, I'm STUCK with a vehicle that has problems that I can't fix and will have trouble selling. The worst part is that I LOVE this thing! I just want it to run right. Strongly considering a trade to the new 4-door 2007 Wrangler with the 6 speed manual.
